A morning with Brandon Roy - some great photos

Getty Images/Yahoo Sports/NBA Entertainment delivers the goods, and for some occasion (it's not media day yet, right?) has a number of great photos of Brandon in an almost uncomfortable very private setting with his family as well as workout and action shots in the practice facility. Basically a morning in the life of Brandon Roy. BE house photographer Alex McDougall was faster breaking the new-look Roy photos, Getty's pro photographer has the sharper images ;)

Teammates Steve Blake, Andre Miller, Jerryd Bayless, along with a few Blazers staffers and fellow NBA player Ime Udoka (and someone who I suppose is Melvin Ely in the background) can be seen in the photos.

Click through for a slideshow with all of them here (23). All photos copyright 2009 NBAE/Getty Images by Sam Forencich, taken September 17th. Since SBN has a licensing agreement I suppose it's okay to show a few below.

terrible shoes.

hopefully those won’t be his shoes come regular season. personally, i’m hoping he goes Nike Zoom BB IIIs which are straight fire and probably will be some of the best performing basketball shoes Nike has ever made for guards. Given Brandon went with the BB Zoom Is and II his first two years in the league, I hope the IIIs are a shoe-in, so-to-speak. (Hopefully we can put last years horrible Blue Chips and then Phenoms behind us for ever).

Zoom BB III info here.
No US release date yet, but they are out in Europe.

Yeah, I saw that.

I’m still holding out with a little hope for a change. Last year he switched mid-season, so . . .

Sadly, Brandon is in the in-between land with Nike: not big enough (yet) for his own shoe (signature, or stealth-style), but too big for Nike to just let him wear whatever he wants. I’m sure Williams, Mayo and Gay will all be wearing these crap Air Max Rises. Sigh.

At leas these look like they could be better than the Blue Chips, which were the worst bball shoes Nike has made Pros where in years. Brandon’s game is soooo suited for some nice deluxe full-length Zoom Air, not this Air Max crappola. plus, i’d be willing to bet the BB III will be significantly lighter than the Air Max Rise. oh well.

You might think so

But I’m pretty sure your’re wrong. Nike pays him a lot of money and he has to wear what they tell him to, at least to some degree. As you may recall last year, he was unhappy with his shoes (they were falling apart while he played) but all that meant was Nike started making custom alterations to the fit and finish of the shoe—not letting him switch shoes entirely.

the poster formerly known as sergioftw, in recovery

by NoLook on Sep 23, 2009 6:33 AM PDT up reply actions

He chose this because they were extremely "light"

And I doubt he’ll be changing. He worked especially hard this offseason with Nike to find the right fit so I think the Air Max Rise is what we’re stuck with.

I do like the all black ones, but not a fan of the whites.

by kellex-BoL on Sep 22, 2009 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I read that article too.

And I’m pretty sure it was mostly PR speak. I doubt the Air Max Rises are even in the top 5 lightest bball shoes Nike makes this year. Also the article makes the point that they customized the Air Max Rises fit for him, meaning the version he wears isn’t really the retail version of the shoe, which would mean the retail version was not adequate. Anyway, yes, I am in denial, for sure. I just hate Air Max shoes, and that phony and cheesy carbon fiber around the heel and ridiculous ankle srtrap, etc. But I agree, the black/red colorway looks way better than the white one. I was hoping that if he went Zoom BB III that Nike would release a) at least a nice Blazer’s colorway, or B) a B-Roy edition like they did with the blue-chips and phenoms last year.

My hope is that one day soon B-Roy gets his own shoe developed from the ground up just for him, a stealth signature like Nash, Carter, Pierce or Stoudemire get—designed just for them, but not having their name in the shoe name. I think it’s too much to ask for an out-right signature shoe, but maybe after a couple championships . . .

DirecTV

So we can see from Roy’s obvious use of a DirecTV remote that HE doesn’t get Comcast SportsNet either. You know it’s bad when an NBA All-Star’s wife and family can’t even tune in for the game. Come on Blazers, put some pressure on Comcast to make a deal. This has gone on too long.

Uhh...guys

I don’t think pro basketball players spend much time watching pro basketball at home, at least for pleasure. They probably use home as a place to relax away from the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if most NBA wives banned it in their homes.

tend to carry their shoes to the gym and put them on there (don’t want to scuff your kicks), so it only makes sense to wear the socks with the slipons (soccer players do the same thing).
