When Does Training Camp Start And When Will Aldridge Sign A Contract?
Okay. I'm lazy. I'm dying for the Blazers season to start. I'm way too depressed from not seeing the Blazers in action. So, when does training camp start? Is it soon? I truly miss watching the games late at night here on the East Coast.
What will be the biggest news of training camp? Will one of our key players get injured? What will be the biggest story-line?
Also, what's the latest on Aldridge's contract?

Aldridge
decided to play for the minimum, just because he’s a good guy. Plus, he still thinks we have a chance at CP3 and wanted to make sure there’s enough money for Chris.
Training camp begins next Monday (with media day).
First day of practice is next Tuesday.
The team has until October 31st to sign Aldridge to an extension or he becomes a restricted free agent next season (we would be able to match any offers).
DrivetheLane is messin’ with yer head. Heh-heh.

With b roy and lamarcus' contract
my feeling was it was never a problem as long as both were signed up by training camp. Going into practice and having to worry about a contract may become a problem.
So with that said I hope lamarcus gets signed up some time this week.
its just details
just like with the B-Roy contract, its going to get done, its just a matter of hammering out incentives/structures, etc.
it’s going to happen. They know they have a winner and are going to keep it intact. Worst case scenario is that if they know the market is going to be tough next year (with all the top notch free agents and declining league revenue), they might let him go to restricted free agency, prepared to match whatever he gets, but hoping that they can get him for less than projected market value

Unfortunately, that's not the worst case scenario.
As unlikely as it may be, the worst case scenario would be if he signed the qualifying offer. He would then play one more season (2010-11) with the Blazers and then he’d be an unrestricted free agent that could simply walk away back to Texas.
Would he do that? It’s very unlikely, because he risks the possibility of getting a career ending or limiting injury during the season and never getting a big lifetime security contract. There is also every indication that he really wants to stay with Portland.
So, there’s no reason to panic, but I don’t like leaving any bad scenarios on the table. The Blazers need to get this done.
I would really be pleased if they got it done this week (doesn’t seem likely though) so that LMA could get his big day in the sun with press conferences and lots of Blazer for life talk. etc. LMA is always in Brandon’s shadow and seems to suffer from some insecurity (for instance – Quick wrote that “Aldridge is easily insulted” and has a “fragile ego”). It might start his season in the right direction to get this recognition and security, rather than have it hanging over the entire season.

Is there a problem brewing?
I’m starting to worry about the financial picture. Lamarcus is obviously holding out for a max deal, which he probably deserves considering the over-paid climate surrounding star players. If he holds out, some team next year will make a max offer anyways and the PTB will have to match.
So with Brandon and Lamarcus making bank, who is next to demand a max deal? Oden? I can see that. Rudy? Maybe not max but worth plenty. Batum is going to demand big money. Joel? He deserves it if anybody does. At some point, isn’t Paul Allen going to say enough is enough. He’s been down this road before and even if he is ultra-wealthy, might he pinch a penny at some point in time?
