Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Looks like Spain will face France in the first game of the quarter-finals on Thursday. Time is not yet set, but expect it to start in mid-morning Portland time.

Winner goes to the semis and gets a spot in the 2010 World Championships. Loser can finish no better than 5th and will have to win the next game to lock up a 2010 Worlds spot.

Aren't these the two best teams there?

Why would they be on the same side of the ladder?

because a portland vs portland final would be preposterous

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

they weren't

Even though it’s a random draw, Spain and France started in completely opposite groups (4 groups of 5 to start the tourney). Both advanced to the 2nd set of round robins, again in different brackets. France finished 1st in their group to claim one of the top two quarterfinal seeds, while Spain finished 4th in their group, grabbing the final spot in the quarterfinals. Thus, #4 seed Spain will play #1 seed France

How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

Which is ironic because France was the last team to qualify, and Spain among the first as the runner-up in the last EuroBasket and the defending world champion.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
