B-ball Video Game Question ...

Got a Wii the other day, any advice on what b-ball game to buy? There's one with K@be on the cover I'd rather not purchase. Advice?

2k10?

if that’s the game with kobe on it, you better scoop it up. the live series sucks, especially on wii. other than that the wii is a wasteland for basketball games, unless you’re interested in the “wacky 3-on-3” of kidz sports basketball or double dribble on the virtual console.

here’s a list from gamespot

NBA Street V1 and V2 for the game cube

Pick up those with a couple gamecube controllers… you wont be disapointed. The Wii sucks for sports games. The cube actually had a few decent ones. I personally loved the Street series before the current generation of consoles. I dont know what they did with those games, but I dont feel like following Carmelo Anthony in a fake story of his rise to stardom.

Yeah, thanks BBall game designers. Pull your heads out of your collective… umm… ya.

thanks all. 2k10 is the way to go, eh?

I’ll just paint over the cover, or better yet, paste a Brandon Roy photo over it.

You can find custom covers all over the net. Just print it out and slide that badboy in.

There are a ton of people who make them, you might even be able to make a request for some.

Get a 360

and play 2k. Play Super Mario Galaxy and then sell your wii in that order

Yeah these guys have it right

1st – The Wii is a nice, fun console, but for pro sports sims its not a great option. It’s too reliant on the motion techonlogy (which is awfully tough to be accurate with in sports games), and its limited by the few buttons and layout of the controller. Xbox 360 and PS3 were designed for more sophistictaed gaming, and give you a more responsive and accurate experience with pro sports sims, not to mention way better HD graphics, sound, etc. The Wii has some arcade-y titles, but that’s about all its really good with.

That being said, you’re going to find a lot of people split on the NBA Live 10, NBA 2k10 debate. Its funny because its a really polarizing question, there are people that will defend both and condemn both greatly, its more a question of preference. Honestly, I’d rent both, give them a try, and see which one you take to more. I used to be locked into the NBA Live series for years, and then I played NBA 2K8, and now I probably wouldn’t go back. There are arguments that can be made for each, but the 2K series has pretty darn good gameplay, and in a pro basketball sim I am all about FLOW, just how the game moves and reacts, and that the physics all work and respond right, etc. 2K9 definitely was better in that regard to me.

By the way, BIG PROPS to Blazer on the GameCube/NBA Streets call, that game was wicked when it came out and I played both V1 and V2 a ton. Not a sim by any means, but definitely way entertaining

Wii is a fun console, especially when "group gaming".

You can get several people who aren’t regular gamers to participate and everyone will have a grand old time. Kids love it, too. My extended family will gather around and have a bowling/tennis tournament or play one of the million addicting minigames. Tiger 2010, MarioKart, Lego anything… those are all fun.

Professional gamers, however, will stick with the XBox for the professional gaming. First person shooters and all sports games fall into this category. It’s just not there yet (ever?) for the Wii.

But I like to be here. Oh, I like it a lot! Said the Cat in the Hat. To the fish in the pot.

wii is fun

i started out on the atari, and worked my way up to ps2 and xbox. somewhere in that era of gaming, the reality of children and responsibility (oh how i loathe the word) set in, and i realized if my kids are playing video games i’d rather have them moving than sitting on their butts. now it’s all about rayman’s raving rabbids and ghostbusters, and i probably have just as much fun as my kids. it’s interesting how 5 years ago, i wouldn’t have considered the wii because it doesn’t have the 2ks and grand theft autos, but now i wouldn’t consider anything else.

During the HOF presser this morning

They mentioned something about a new game coming out for the wii. I didn’t catch the details but you could probably find more info about it with a google. It had something to do with MJ I think. Maybe “Jordan vs Sloan”, with the same graphics and engine as Jordan vs Bird, but with more elbows and less tres.

I think that was a casino game ...

(ooo, Burn! sorry MJ, but you had it coming.)

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
