OT: Did Hout use a racial slur? Does it make a difference?
Fairly reputable source raises these questions and gives some evidence that Hout did in fact use a racial slur before being dropped like a hot sack of coals.

I thought he dropped a "that's what she said"
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

If he did
it only makes a difference as to the punishment he should get. It doesn’t make any difference as far as Blount is concerned.

I like Jason Whitlock's take on the whole LaGarrette Blount fracas.
“I do not believe the gossip being circulated on Twitter and other places that Hout called Blount the N-word. There were two black Boise State players standing very close to Hout when he was sucker-punched by Blount. The black Boise State players didn’t react like they’d just heard the N-word. And neither did Blount.
In all the footage I’ve seen, I’ve never seen anything where Blount is shouting: ‘Call me a N-word again!’
Had Blount simply clocked Hout, I would’ve been cool with a two-game suspension. When he responded to the taunts of Boise fans and had to be restrained by coaches and security and dragged off the field, that’s what escalated the severity of the punishment.
The people making excuses for Blount’s behavior deserve a mouth shot. The people trying to equate Hout’s taunting with Blount’s criminal behavior deserve a mouth shot.
Move on. Blount will get a chance to redeem himself in the NFL if he can get his behavior issues under control. He blew his chance to be a college player."

Yeah but Whitlock is racist against black people
Did you read his piece on Serena Williams?

Well, first off...
Whitlock is a black man, so I don’t think it had to do with race. Secondly, the whole article was about how she doesn’t demonstrate the necessary work ethic (or eating habits) to become the best tennis champion of all time.

Well, first off...
You should check to whom you are responding before you respond with a serious statement.

responsibility shouldn't fall to us to interpret a person's statement as sarcasm.
And one of these days, TIH needs to respond to a comment like your’s saying “but I was serious!”.

I'm half-serious and I know Whitlock is black
In my opinion, Whitlock sometimes sounds kind of racist regarding some black athletes and he gets away with it because he is black.

It matters
some things you don’t say. Punching another guy in the face isn’t that big a deal. Some people just have it coming. LB was def provoked. Not sure what was said, but if it was racial or about LB’s family I feel bad for him.

I agree
its not that big of a deal and Hout had it coming. Sure neither player acted with class, but while Blount’s act was provoked, Hout’s certainly wasn’t. Just when you’d think Blount couldn’t feel any worse, Hout went out of his way to do just that. But Oregon staff said Blount was suspended for his actions after the punch, not the punch alone. And thats where I heard the N bomb was dropped (from the BSU fans). And this seems likely. After all, Blount didn’t try to tackle Hout and rain blows upon him, but thats what he looked like he wanted to do to those fans.
Finally, Mike Barret made an excellent point on talkin ball. whoever was running the replay screen at the stadium should have been fired on the spot. The punch was replayed over and over and over, which of course pissed off the fans. He said that in the NBA that would easily lead to a firing or a several thousand dollar fine.

I think both of you really need to take a second look at what you are saying here.
Do you seriously think that it is ok to assault another individual for any reason other than defending yourself from physical attack from that person? If so, then your moral compass needs to be looked at. (Not to mention your understanding of the law.)
It does not matter what Hout said. He could have danced around Blount sticking out his tongue, waggling his fingers and saying nigger, nigger, nigger over and over again and it would not have justified an assault. “Punching another guy in the face isn’t that big a deal?” Blount is fortunate not to be facing criminal charges.

Two points:
1). Why would Hout use a racial slur when two black teammates were standing right there?
2). Why would those black teammates not say anything?
I think he said, “thanks for the * whooping,” or something like that.

I doubt Blount would call and personally apologize to someone who dropped an N-bomb.

I'm not sure I agree
He can’t play the victim after what everyone saw on TV. Because of that, he has to take an apologetic path to get in the public’s good graces and possibly into the NFL. I don’t think he was called the n-word though, there were too many people around who would have made a WTH face seconds before he punched Hout.

Maybe that's where I heard the rumor about his grandma
If he said something about Blount’s recently deceased grandmother and “whoopin” then Hout deserved to be punched.
by tominhawaii on Sep 11, 2009 5:54 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Highly doubt it
First, I’m sure both teams know what was said, and if he said anything like that, the Boise staff would have suspended there player, and oferend an appologe.
Also from most accounts the Boise player referred to some type of ass wuppin, and Blount didn’t hear what was said anyway,
