Rosen on Roy and other young NBA up-and-comers
Here's Rosen's blurb on Roy:
"Brandon Roy (25 years old, three seasons): Virtually everything about Roy's game is commendable. Of course, his defense could be a tad better, but that's true of just about every player in the league.
"Other than that, starting this season, Roy must avoid settling for jumpers and become more intent on attacking the hoop. Indeed, he only averaged 6.47 free throws per game last season — good enough to lead his team, but not good enough to be a reliable scorer in the endgame."
Rosen thinks Roy is not a reliable endgame scorer? Charlie, Charlie, Charlie...

Has he seen him play
What are Roy’s fourth quarter stats compared to the other players in the league? That’s what I thought, and he’s not a reliable endgame scorer?
And people say Steve Blake isn’t tough.
Roy is not flashy
He is just good. I think his nickname should be the “Silent Assassin” because he can score a “Quiet” 30 like no one else I’ve ever seen.

thats ok
this guy is just a bad reporter or whatever he is i have learned that no one outside of Portland really knows anything about Roy. i don’t even think he should be on that list, as for as im concerned he is a super star. plus Roy is like 3rd to only Kobe and bron in 4th quarter points, they’ll see they’ll all see
The ignorance of NBA sportswriters about Roy and other Portland players and,
by extrapolation, all NBA players not named Kobe, Dwyane, Shaq, Duncan, KG, and LeBron is often astounding.
If anything
Andre Miller’s contributions to the team should allow Roy to avoid driving so much. With his injury history and the extent to which the team actually does rely on him in the endgame it will be for the best that he can “settle” for even more jumpers. Silly fox writer, no cookie.
Rosen hates the NBA
And thus, makes half-assed opinions about the game and its players.
Any cursory glance at Roy’s 4th quarter stats, catching one of our many nationally telecast games where Roy takes over the 4th, or reading general NBA news that one whose career involves following the ins and outs of the NBA should make it painfully clear that Roy is known as a clutch performer… indeed, a reliable scorer in the endgame.
I do not doubt Rosen knows more about the actual game of b-ball than me, but he simply does not follow the NBA or its players and is prone to making half-assed statements from watching a quarter or two of a game. It’s not just the Blazers, of course… he has made the “Roy is clearly a bust” and “Joel doesn’t have quick enough hands to play good defense” type statements for every team in the league.

Or look up some statistics

“Only 6.47 free throws per game”. Well, that puts Roy firmly in the top 20 of all players last season. Could it be better? Everything can be. Also it would be nice if he made over 85%. Is that a sign he is not a reliable endgame scorer? Nope.

And how many FTs did he actually make per game: 5.3 which again puts him in the top 20

If he made one more next year, he would be as good or better than Kobe, Dirk, Paul, Pierce. But well, those are probably not reliable scorers either for Charlie Rosen.

He also thinks Roy is an "up and comer"
I heard good things about this other up and comer: Larry Bird.
Life is hilarious.
He also thinks LeBron and Paul are "up and comer"

I love it when analysts just 'mail it in'. (interweb sarcasm)

Rosen is Phil Jackson's croney
Rosen was Phil’s assistant with the Albany Patroons. Its telling that the most words writen, the harshest opinion, and the only real information is all about Bynum. The rest of the article is just X needs to (Choose one) Shoot better, get to the line more, play better D.
I am guessing that the whole article was an envelope for Phil to send a message to Bynum. Ignore the rest of the players, they are irrevelant to this exercise.
yes...
but Rosen is thinking with his gut. It’s all the rage with famous people now a days. Facts are over rated.
"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.
But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"
