I like Jerryd
But I hate that Ed Hardy outfit. Cmon, JBay, you’re better than that!

good luck with that Jerryd...
How did you guys win that?

uh oh.....
didn’t we ship the me first guy out for one steve francis and change?

Give the kid a break
He’s shown himself to be a good, unselfish teammate so far with the Blazers. The guy is in a situation that is ripe for selfish behavior, especially from a young guy looking to establish himself, and he’s handled himself well. Why do Blazer fans look for anything to rip him on?
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
He's outta here
“Dime: Do you think there’s something you need to do more of — or less of — to get those minutes? Or is it just a matter of being in the right place at the right time?
JB: Yeah, it’s kind of that I think, being in the right place. All I can do is continue to get better, and my opportunity will come somewhere. Hopefully it comes soon."
The kid wants out.

Good, let him go...

that show sucked
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

this is not 2005
the time for “experimenting” with young PGs is over
Bayless’ role is “break glass in case of emergency”
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

hey slow down on the amature psych evaluations
Right now he’s a Blazer, and he may be for a long time. It’s cool.

completely agree, trade him sooner than later for maximum value. He should've been dealt at the trade deadline last year.
Truth never was or can be propagated by fire and sword - Albert Gallatin
Wrong.
People are already getting all worked up, quoting crap out of context…
Wear this:
Dime: When you first heard about the Miller signing, what was your reaction?
JB: I thought it could be a good learning experience for me. I just gotta take it for what it’s worth and learn from it. Andre Miller’s a great point guard, so it’ll only help me get better.
That, friends, is a correct answer.
And what makes you so sure, people, that it’s not STEVE BLAKE who is going to be disgruntled at riding pine and headed out the door? It is his contract year, after all.
"A bizarre and extremely rare hybrid Blazer/Laker fan, Timbo has always struggled to contain the Beast Within, like Dr. Jekyll, Bruce Banner, or Ted Kennedy." — Miled Animal
What makes me so sure is...
…that I’ve seen them both play and it would take a miracle for Bayless to get better than Blake this year. That is just my observation but I don’t think I’m the only one seeing it.
I do believe too much is being made of his comments regarding “the only thing he’s worried about is playing time” and “somewhere” vs. sometime. The kid has a knack for saying the wrong things to the media but he is a Blazer with alot of potential and I support him as long as he’s here. While I don’t see him being second off the bench at PG this year I do think it would be wise to give him time to develop and see what he can do.
Incredibly narrow minded and short sighted.....
…… I certainly realize that many around here are not fans of JB’s game. But good grief, for the good of the team, try looking beyond your collective noses:
The Blazers are going to need a new starting PG in 2-3 years. Starting quality PGs don’t grow on trees, and teams don’t trade them on the cheap. The Blazers are going to have high picks and no money for the foreseeable future. Like him or not, Bayless is a superb athlete with what most observers agree is a high ceiling and a tremendous work ethic. Bayless is the only player the Blazers have rights to who has a reasonable chance of becoming the starting PG we are going to need. Trading him for pocket change isn’t smart asset maximization. Smart teams develop their lottery picks, they don’t discard them. Did Houston give up on Brooks after year one? Did Memphis give up on Conley?
Andre Miller, at age 33, cost more money than the Blazer’s are going to have available to spend with the MLE. Rather than trading away multiple quality young players in a couple of years to bring in another starter, why not try to use Miller to help teach Bayless? This certainly appears to be the thinking of Pritchard even if it is not the “thinking” of the knee-jerk, anti-Bayless crowd.

As I learned with Shelden Williams, you will soon learn with Jerryd Bayless.
Humility is your friend, while hubris is your enemy. I hope you learn this lesson.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
How was that lesson with
Dante Cunningham?

DeJuan Blair should've still been taken over Dante Cunningham, although I was originally ...
too hard on the Villanova alum. Anyhow, I expect Blair that will be better than Cunningham over the next few seasons.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
Wow, did that just happen?
Did you just talk to me about hubris? Is the irony intentional or accidental? If it is intentional, it is pretty funny. If it is accidental, it is even funnier.
I look forward to meeting you someday at one of the BEdge functions. I appreciate a young man who is knowledgeable and states his opinions forcefully. Over the past year, I have acknowledged on several occasions that I respect your knowledge of the game and the players. I know the Xs and Os and the players less well, but I have followed the game for a long time, all the way back to the beginning of the franchise when I was a kid.
We disagree about Bayless. Fine, time will tell. I think the biggest disagreement we have is not so much about this particular player’s future, but rather the clarity of our crystal balls. You have seemed absolutely certain that Bayless was a lousy pick from day one. I wrote a Fanpost a while back where I said I thought there was about a 60% chance that Bayless will become a good enough distributor and an efficient enough scorer to start at PG next to Roy and Rudy.
Let me make a poker analogy. My position has never been to be “all in” on Bayless. My position has been that Bayless is a smart, cost effective bet. Given the rarity of good PGs, and the cost of those PGs, we are getting good “pot odds” by betting on Bayless. Think of it as having a four card flush draw at the turn.
If Bayless develops, we fill the teams greatest long term roster need. If he doesn’t, we are right were we would be if we traded him away, i.e. in need of a starting PG in two years. Bayless has some trade value based on potential, but not enough at this point to land a significant player on his own. Packaging Bayless and Trout for a slight upgrade at back-up 4, simply does not make any sense to me. The only way that it makes sense, is if you are absolutely certain that Bayless will not develop.
I don’t care how many player analogies you cite. Some “combo” type guys make the transition, some don’t. I look at Bayless and I think he has the right physical attributes, intelligence, and work ethic to at least have a decent shot.
We both should avoid acting certain about the future, and the hubris that would involve.

True, but how would you expect feisty AK to respond?
AK commented that the Blazers should dump Jerryd and ULC replied:
Incredibly narrow minded and short sighted
Peace and love.
Yeah, I'll concede that it's ironic I'd mention hubris.
If anyone is guilty of displaying a smug, self-important swagger, it’s admittedly me.
Oddly enough, it’s that same type of cockiness which might be the downfall of Jerryd Bayless.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
"The only thing I'm worried about is me, and getting more minutes next year."
Cut the guy some slack. He misspoke slightly. He meant to say:
“I can only control what I do and I’m going to compete for more playing time next year”.
It’s quite a feat to spin that into “he’s a me-first guy”. He’s working hard and isn’t quite there yet. Maybe he’s a little disappointed, but he’s showing maturity in the way he’s handled it.
Bayless' real problem is that he is in too much of a hurry, both on and off the court
I do not buy the idea that Bayless is displaying a bad attitude here. He is saying that he will continue to work hard on his game no matter what happens. He cannot control personnel decisions and he cannot tell the coaches how much to play him. His default mechanism is to say that he is going to work at HIS game.
Do we blame him for this? Should he blindly say that the Blazers could never trade him if he does not perform? I am fairly sure that his preference would be to do well here. And the sooner the better. His problem right now is that his talent is causing him to run headlong into his learning curve.
My clumsiness caused my foot to run headlong into my son's bass amplifier the other day.
Ouchie.
Your comment that Jerryd is in too much of a hurry is perceptive. The kid needs more experience, instruction, and time, but he also needs to relax. This being Jerryd, learning to relax is probably the most difficult lesson he will ever learn.
