Roy Finalizing Contract Extension?
That's the story in the Seattle Times this AM, in their article on a game that Brandon was supposed to play in. Note the third paragraph.

Makes sense
And LMA should follow shortly. Now that we’re done with the FA market we can focus on keeping what we have.

I wonder if KP has to get this done
before he can head out on his August vacation?
I could see Roy’s agent using this delay tactic as negotiating “leverage”
j/k

One of the comments says that Roy was there and that he was sitting on the bench...
I hope the article is right rather than the commenter

yeah, actually both commentors say Brandon was there
I wonder if the article author was confused. Maybe the organizers said he could not play this weekend, since the contract has not been completed, but the author heard it differently.

I actually don't know the a deal gets reached this season.
He’d be an RFA next year and we’d be able to match any offer (almost certainly a max deal) on him. What’s more, since the cap is shrinking, the deal would be smaller and we’d owe him less. It’s a good move from a business standpoint. Kinda sucks for Roy though.

The cap is shrinking but...
isn’t it next summer that the max contracts get bigger? From %25 percent of the cap to %30?

as posted on BE ad nauseum
IF Brandon signs a max contract, it will end up being for the EXACT same amount of money whether he signs it now, or next summer. This is based on how max contracts are computed.
In short, WHEN he signs (a max contract) is completely meaningless, and therefor there is nothing to be gained by waiting (and much to lose!)
How did you guys win that?

what is there to be lost by waiting?
Worse case scenario is another team signs him to a max deal and we match. The only thing I can think of is B-Roy being unhappy…. is that what you meant? or am I missing something here?

if he gets seriously hurt = less money
on the PTI video Oden said he was in his “contract” year, if he has a monster year (as we all hope) would KP offer Greg more than LMA?
I hope this doesn’t turn into the late ‘70s, where Blazer stars were leaving town because Weinberg couldn’t afford them all…sure Paul Allen is rich but those Vulcans want to break even

I know Paul Allen is so greedy...
not wanting to funnel millions of dollars into the Blazers.
by Escrote on Aug 3, 2009 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wasn't thinking greed, necessarily
I was thinking maybe he’s not going to be willing to spend like it’s 2001, anymore
How many luxury tax dollars will the Vulcans allow PA to spend, in the next 5 years? Beats me, but if you have the number slip it to me under the door in a closed envelope…

no, worst case scenario is he signs the QO next summer, then leaves the next
Not to mention in the meantime we may have our superstar player be angry and/or unhappy, which seriously hurts our locker room and is a major distraction this upcoming season and beyond.
if we are going to pay him in the end anyway if another team offers him a deal (which no one will), then just pay him now. It’s not like he will get more by us matching someone else’s offer.
Why risk any of that when there is ZERO benefit of doing so?

If Hedo
had signed with the Blazers for near 50 million would that have had the potential to be a john mcllvaine/shawn kemp situation with LMA and Roy??

Roy's not going anywhere
He just bought a house in Lake Oswego, by Stafford Rd.

Really? Do you know that for sure?
He was asked a year ago in The Oregonian if he would move to Oregon, and he said he would after he signed his big contract extension.

I do know this for sure.
I think Roy hasn’t publicized it in fear of losing some advantage in negotiating his extension.

which side of I-205 is that on?
Z-bo used to have property off Stafford Rd, on the “Wilsonville side” of 205. Zach’s “hoops family” would ride ATVs in the wee hours of the morning, according to old Canzano columns
I have a feeling the Roys will be better neighbors…
