Your Second Favorite Team (now with a poll!)
Henry Abbot of TrueHoop recently posed the question to his 'Truehoop Network of Bloggers' who is your second favorite team and why. I would definitely be interested in other people's take on this including Ben and Dave.
This site seemed like a good place to pose this question as 90% of us already know what each others' first favorite team is, and I thought it would be interesting to hear who else you root for in this league of ours. If you don't have a second favorite team I would heartily suggest finding one, and hopefully some other commentators can convince you to watch theirs. A second favorite team gives you more chances to watch other games, a commitment to seeing how a different style fares against the different match-ups. And the freedom to root for a team, and never feel the deep disappointment when you see the team fall.
As I have stated before my second favorite team until this last year was the Suns. I loved watching them, I really liked what they were doing, and I really liked the individual players on their team. From Amare, Diaw, Nash, and D'Antoni each person was committed to running, and each player had confidence in themselves and each other player on their team. The shots were plentiful and pretty, the idea of basketball being a truly beautiful game, that was both fun and fast was just an awesome thing to watch. While the Blazers were rebuilding and these last couple of years playing a game of pace, it was awesome to watch how the other teams in the league competed against a team that was/is virtually completely opposite.
Going into this next year, I think the team I am going to spend following second to the Blazers may in fact be the Wizards. Arenas back on the court, with one of my favorite SF in Butler, Jameson playing on his last legs, Miller hopefully rebounding from a dreadful last season, and Haywood hopefully being healthy and back into the line-up. Getting rid of Eddie Jordan was just plain idiotic, but I look forward to seeing just audacious displays of confidence (GA), efficiency (Butler), growth (McGee) (Young), experience (Jameson), and players rebounding from playing poorly (Miller) and injury (Haywood).
So I want to know your take, who is going to be your second favorite team next year?

My second favorite team would probably be the bulls.
I want to see how good Derrick Rose becomes.
I also like the heat, because of Dwyane Wade

Honestly, don't have one.
I love basketball games and will watch TONS of non-Blazers games on league pass (yes, the gf often complains), but I simply can’t choose another “favorite.”

Dallas Mavericks
Because of Dirk Nowitzki, and a part of my family living in the area before. Now one of my cousins is a Spurs fan. I plan to disown him. Bulls in the East. And I also watch a lot of teams regularly in general.

The concept of a second favorite team is foul too me.
But I really enjoy watching the Lakers, the Bulls, the Cavs, the Rockets, and the Hawks.
I heart taxes.

It's always been hard to pick a second favorite
Because the moment I realize that a team isn’t the Blazers, I immediately begin to hate them.

My favorite team is the Blazers...
…My second favorite team is the Blazers 2nd team. My mind just can’t get beyond that. I apologize if I have failed at this experiment.

I’ll have to say the Suns.
You need to add a poll.

Yeah, I was about to say the Suns. Before Steve Kerr. Well, before the cheap-shot Rob effect actually.

Not be a bandwagoner...
but I like the Warriors. It really has nothing to do with their potential for real success. Some games they’re just really fun to watch.

Whoever the Lakers are playing.
Honestly though, I like basketball so much I could watch Toronto @ Memhpis and still be entertained if its a good game.

Whoever the Lakers are playing.

The Sonics were my second favorite but I can't support the Thunder
I will continue to keep the Sonics as my #2 if there is a return ever. Until then I watch other teams with interest but little care of who wins. It really helps you to get a feel for other teams capability when you don’t care abou the outcome. For example I saw a few Dallas games on TV last year and they looked far worse against other teams than they didd against the Blazers. J.J. Barea makes many mistakes regularly, but against us he couldn’t miss.

Memphis Grizzlies have recently became my #2
I can’t help it I love the unorthodox, money above all else approach the organization takes to running a basketball team, I find it absolutely hilarious and they seem to do it better then anyone. I am always intrigued by what they will do next.

I am from Cleveland
As a day to day fan, I follow the Blazers 10x more than the Cavs. When they meet during the season I root for the Blazers. However, if they were to meet in the finals, I’d root for the Cavs, just to get Cleveland a championship. If the Blazers had never won one, I don’t know what I’d do.

I am rabid in rooting for whoever is playing the lakers. Good inclusion in the poll.

I'm surprised Houston isn't getting more love.
With the Clyde connection and nice guy Hakeem in the past. Aside from briefly employing Artest and kicking our arses last year, there’s a lot to like. Possibly my #3 team.
I think I like the Kings, too. Actually it’s closer to compassion than fandom, but I think that still counts.

Spurs & Houston.
Hakeem may be my favorite basketball player of all time.
And I love the Spurs trio and their organization.

Jazz
It took me a long time to get there, and I grant that it’s poor form to like a division rival, but I freakin’ dig Jerry Sloan! While I have hated the Jazz for many years, I have always respected the organization and especially the coach – perhaps I’m confusing “respect” with “second favorite”… The Jazz is just a class organization – many traits we lacked for a while there, they have maintained.
And I’ve always wondered how many teeth Darius would have had left if he’d pulled his crap on Sloan… ; )

he would have the same amount of teeth as he does knee caps if he continued to play pro-level basketball
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

I would say Spurs...
for some reason I like the hard nosed basketball style. I guess I am just boring or old school or something. I also like baseball games were teams manufacture runs instead of just hitting homers, love a good pitchers duel, and love a grind’em’out football game that is all about clock management. Maybe I am a snob or something… I dunno that is just the way I like it.

Voted Spurs
But in reality it is probably more Tim Duncan and George Gervin than the Spurs. I liked them back in the Gervin/Gilmore days but probably because I hated the Lakers and thought they had a chance of beating them. What 9 year old wouldn’t love a player nicknamed the Iceman??
Then the serious Blazer runs started and I hated them all through the 90s and the stupid Sean Elliot shot…
but as the Blazers became (I am speaking relatively here, they never supplanted the Blazers as a favorite) less likable to me, I grew to respect Pop, Duncan, and the organization for building a great team while continuing to take character of the players into account while they won.
I still hate them when they play the Blazers.

Spurs have always appeared to be a clasy orginization
David Robinson was my favorite player for a while, the way he let his game do his talking, and you’ll never see Tim Duncan run his fingers through his hair-yes I’m aware he dosen’t have any. Even when they beat us I respected their talent.
We went like this, he went like that. I say to Hollywood: Where'd he go? Hollywood says: where'd who go?

I loved John Starks and the Knicks. Mainly, because of my deep seeded hate for MJ. But right now, whoever the Lakers are playing would be my second favorite team. Unless, its the Jazz v Lakers, then I’ll watch NCIS on USA
