Sponsored Post: PASPN Fantasy Basketball League

Every once in a while some folks affiliated with the online basketball scene want to help us out with funds for our jersey contest and t-shirts in exchange for a quick mention.  This is one of those posts.  PASPN runs a fantasy basketball league and they create leagues for each individual website they service.  Blazersedge is among those.  It will have its own, specific league for you to participate in.  Here are the details they want you to know.

There will be 30 General Manager spots available: one for each NBA franchise. Since this is a new league, we will start by taking over each team's existing contracts. After that, it's up to you to re-tool your team via trades, draft picks, and free agent signings to form the best team that you can. Since PASPN leagues are governed by the rules of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Mock GM game mixes fantasy basketball playing with the realities of the business of the NBA.

Once the NBA regular season begins, we will compete in an 18-week Head-to-Head season, where each team has a new opponent every week. You start 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL, UTIL, UTIL), and whoever scores more fantasy points wins the matchup. The scoring system is based on NBA.com's Efficiency rating: ((PTS + TRB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TOV )). The top 16 teams qualify for the Playoffs, which take place during the final 4 weeks of the regular season.

If this sounds like your idea of a good time, here is the link for the BE league.  Channel your inner Kevin Pritchard (or, if you choose, Chris Wallace) and knock yourselves out!

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  Apparently the first BE league is full so a second one has been opened here.

I signed up thinking I could swoop in on the Blazers

but alas, team picking doesn’t start for a few days

30 teams are available

because no one has picked any teams yet.

you can’t pick teams until the official start date of the league…
it is that way, to give as fair of a shot to everyone’s favorite team as possilble. Same thing for agents… if there wasn’t a sort of everyone get set at the starting line control, all the best free agents would be gone before everyone had a fair shot at them…

if we get enough GMs before the start date, it can be adjusted.

hope you all enjoy it

excited!!!

I happened to be already looking for this kind of games for a while. This is perfect. But I do have a question… What effect does the luxury tax have in our game? What will happen if I keep overpaying players to have a $100 million payroll? (ex. maxing out every single players that I hold the bird rights on)

If they don’t really matter, then GMs certainly won’t have to act like a real life NBA GMs and this game would lose a lot of fun factors.

Sounds fun!

How does the team picking work? A one round draft with randomly assigned order?

by KitIsh on Aug 2, 2009 11:53 PM PDT reply actions

the luxury tax is assesed

before the draft, similar to how it is in the real NBA.
when the league starts, you’ll have to make sure that you’re under the salary cap, by trading people, orchestrating buyouts etc…

if you’re not under the cap by the draft then you get hit with the luxury tax, which affects your operating budget that you use for orchestrating buyouts etc…

as far as picking teams

its first come first serve, but only after there are at least 30 people signed up, or the league start date… which ever comes first…

looks like we only need 4 more people as GMs and we can get the action started right away…. there are still plenty of Agent spots available…

This is awesome.

I’ve been wanting to be in a league like this for a very long time, but haven’t been able to find any. To me, no matter what team I get it’ll be very fun.

We already have 30 players signed up

so we’ll open up another league League Blazers Edge Deuce… click here to join

there are plenty of agent spots available in this league, so you can still sign up as an agent.

The madness will be begin at 6pm ET. agents and GMs can pick their players and teams starting then.

Good luck all… looking forward to the season with this league. Should be fun

Looks to me like it's today.

Though the site says that trading starts at 4. I’m not sure if that means that we pick teams at 4 or if we pick teams at 3.

by tcwoods on Aug 3, 2009 11:31 AM PDT up reply actions

do we pick teams at 3?

and trading starts at 4? or is everything at 4? it says trading starts at 4 on the site. also, it looks like there are 35 GMs. Does that mean the last 3 to sign up will become agents, or the last 3 to pick teams will be left without a team?

Oops

sorry, i mean the last 5 to sign up or the last 5 to pick teams.

the last 3 will be SOL

for this league as GMs… they’ll have to wait if someone drops out…. or they can be agents….

but there is also the Deuce league which has started where whoever doesn’t get to be a GM on this site, will be able to join and play… click to join

It appears that

one of the agents in the first league claimed all the players already if anyone has any clarification about whats goin with taht

by shteveo on Aug 3, 2009 12:54 PM PDT reply actions

I'm pretty sure that that is kind of a default agent.

The last login of that agent was at 6:48 which is the exact same time that this league was created. My guess is that all of the players that don’t get picked by other agents stay with this default agent. That’s my best guess. So you should be able to still pick any players you want to when the time comes later this afternoon. Hope that helps.

3 or 4?

anyone know whether picking teams actually starts at 3 or 4 pacific time? says 3 here on the thread but on the site it says 4.

wow

I was literally watching the clock countdown to team picking in real time, then my screen refreshed, at which point my top 3 or 4 choices were ALL already picked – darn you guys are quick! I ended up with Detroit. Figure this way at least I have a good chance of having a MUCH better free agent signing period than Dumars did…

How did you guys win that?

I tried to sign up for this earlier

and the stupid thing never sent me a confirmation e mail. I’ll try to sign up again to join the second league. Did anyone else have an issue with making an account on there?

I want Greg Oden to tuck me in at night and tell me stories about the old times

by Juiceman76 on Aug 3, 2009 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

I'm in both

Agent in the first league, GM in the second. Has anyone played this before or is everyone new?

by RidiculousDownside on Aug 3, 2009 5:46 PM PDT reply actions

I got screwed

I was all fired up about this, joined last night. I thought there were a couple of days before we would start. I get home today and find that team picking started today, at 4pm. If we were given a 24 warning or something that would have been cool, but since I have a job and work during the day I got screwed. Just sayin.

by Mattco26 on Aug 3, 2009 6:39 PM PDT reply actions

Sorry Mattco

we figured everyone was eager to get going…. so we gave a 6hr lead time to try to avoid situations like you just described

you might be able to find another league that has one or two vacancies with either the blazers or hornets available…

sorry again….

part of the beauty though, is that regardless of the team, you have the tools to shape it in your image

Please built a team preference queue

Not sure how I am going to be in two places at once – but I’m a diehard player who happens to have an dinner scheduled at the Friday night draft time.

by Mad Matt the Road Warrior on Aug 4, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

A six hour lead time for a 4pm start time doesn’t help anyone with a job. I signed up for the second league, and it looks like we are going to be picking teams tomorrow now. Thats cool, BUT WHY IS IT AT 4PM? How about 6, 7 or 8pm when people who work will actually be at home

by Mattco26 on Aug 4, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions

This is

the worst website I’ve ever used on the entire internet. Trophy goes to the guy who can not mess up your team first… or last… or whatever.
