Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

maybe some with insider can take a closer look and share it with all of us

1. the spurs wont sign Bowen
i like this because i have always been a fan of Bowen even though he plays for another team and would like to see the blazers get him.

2. Websters foot is completely healed
as most blazer fans i hope this is true this makes us much stronger then if we had to depend on batum (who may have a bad shoulder) and outlaw.

3. Batum goes back to french team
i thought he was back in Portland due a shoulder injury i dont know why maybe his shoulder is better then we thought

anyone know

how lamarcus’ contract talks are going?

"There goes Brandon Roy... the best there ever was in this game"

Wheels and Vance just interviewed Blake on the Game

but they didn’t ask Steve about his long-range plans, or whether he’s been offered a contract extension

c’mon guys, do your jobs!

Wheels' job is to be a company man.

You think a guy from within the organization is going to ask the hard hitting questions?

by Arby on Aug 17, 2009 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

not really, but the question isn't really that "hard hitting"

hopefully someone like Canzano will get around to asking Blake about it, in the next month or so

or, maybe Ben will sidle over to Steve during a break in the Webster workouts and pop “the question”?

Come on KP

Be like Cuban, Don’t let your international players play in Euro games. why risk them getting hurt, why risk them being to worn down and tired. we invest millions into these players and unless their respective eupopean teams want to foot part of that bill then don’t let them play.

I might agree if we were talking about Brandon Roy...

But for Batum this is very useful experience. Well worth the risk. Just as practice is worth the risk of injury. Same, obviously goes for Claver.

Rudy probably doesn’t really need the experience, though I think he’s young enough that I don’t worry to much about injury.

by PoliSam on Aug 17, 2009 10:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Why should their respective Euro teams pay?

It’s not like players are going overseas to play for DKV or any other Euro team. Their playing for their country, just like the US olympic team.

They do pay for the insurance (the national teams)

Yes. It's usually covering the salary for one year and pretty expensive, can be more than $100k

The UK had some trouble getting it together for Deng in the past, and Germany once for Nowitzki.

Paying the insurance makes sense

Paying a salary doesn’t. Thanks Norsk for the info…

meh,....

I don’t like that they do allow them to go play for their national teams, but I think it’s REALLLLLLY cool of em to allow it.

I’m sure it’s a provision in their contract negotiations that they at least have the option to go if asked…not to sure about rookie contracts and whether or not they even get to ask for the option but…. cummon man…
(gonna go all rediculous here)
tha’d be like the british dudes in the french indian wars not allowing the colonials to go and protect their homes if they ever were attacked by the french… (or the indians) :)

no? well…. sort of.

could you imagine the stink they could raise if we didn't let em go play for their nations?

RT: i have always been a fan of Bowen even though he plays for another team and would like to see the blazers get him

If Bruce could play PF I’d be all over this idea, especially since he’s good friends with Monty Williams

but the last thing the Blazers need right now is another SF, even one who would add playoff experience and tough perimeter defense (in short spurts)

your right but...

i forgot to metion in the shot that i think we should trade outlaw while his stock is high and get a back up power forward in return say maybe turaif or landry because you are solving two problems you are getting a vetren player that can play D and shoot the 3 and your adding depth and making your bench stronger at both positions

andre/blake/bayless
roy/rudy
bowen/webster/batum/cunningham
aldrige/PF we trade outlaw for/ pendegraph
oden/pryz

by BLAZERS#52 on Aug 17, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I could go for that

I fact, I proposed the same kind of idea during the last few months

and signing Bowen right now would further signal KP intentions to move Travis, or maybe that they don’t expect Webster to be fully healthy

Bruce could play limited minutes during the regular season, so he wouldn’t “add” to the SF logjam that much, and he could be like another “coach” who could teach Batum (etc) how to grab/hold and get away with it, and all of those “veteran tricks” that get under the opponent’s skin and take them out of their game, etc

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
