would be a good backup

Oden...Aldridge...Roy.....THE REAL BIG THREE

by CroRupt on Jul 8, 2009 8:55 AM PDT reply actions

still think we need an improvement at the SF for 38 minutes per game rather than an improvement at backup PF for 10 minutes per game...

if we are going to throw ourselves into title mix this year…KP has shown with H*DO, he is ready to “win now”

by irish3 on Jul 8, 2009 8:57 AM PDT reply actions

he who has the most bigs inherits the NBA title, or something like that. We NEED a fourth big. Injuries and foul trouble happen.

Last year those backup PF minutes where often the time when opposing teams made a run

Bass could really help there, as he can score from mid-range and inside, is surprisingly quick for a PF (faster lane agility than Conley), and cares about defense and just plain winning the game. Not the greatest defensive rebounder though if that’s what we are looking for, although offensively he is pretty good and has a quick second jump.

If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

you followed Dallas… is the kind of guy that would settle for 16 minutes per game?

draft the stache

by Cablinasian on Jul 8, 2009 9:11 AM PDT up reply actions

Dallas mostly played him 19-20 since Dirk often switches to C in a small lineup when Damp has foul problems or just a bad day. But I think he would, much more so than Lee. If Orlando tells him he can start there with Howard at C he would probably prefer that though.

If Bass will come to Portland

he will be most welcome. Same scenario I laid out with the LMA-Lee minutes “rotation” would apply re: BB. (LMA plays SF for 5-6 minutes per half)

When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

by two4larue on Jul 8, 2009 9:05 AM PDT reply actions

Bass is more of a SF than LMA actually, but it's not the natural position for either one

Bass doesn’t have the handles and three point shot, LMA isn’t laterally quick enough and has looked rather bad against small defenders he should be able to post up (see Maggette).

If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

by Norsktroll on Jul 8, 2009 9:10 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree about Magette, he made LMA look bad by flopping

but there are plenty of other SFs out there that LMA could guard on the perimeter who won’t be able to guard him in the post

and we’re only talking about 5-6 minutes per half that LMA and Bass would hypothetically be on the floor at the same time

(Unless there’s foul trouble to the centers and LMA/BB are playing the 4-5)

which Dave suspects, but I have doubts that Joel will be traded at this time

If we sign Bass as our backup 4

we need to keep Trout as the backup 3 and trade Batum and Webster for Salmons as the starting 3. I think Bill Parcels would be a good coach for this team.

PS- We need Derek Fisher to be our PG. Trade Bayless and Blake for him.

It would work

Canzano was just talking about the fishbowl effect in Portland yesterday. I’m glad we didn’t end up signing Turkeyglue after all…that would of messed everything up. Then we would had to make a run at Kobe, Farmar and possibly Oberto to make it work. oh oh Oberto. I’m stretching now…I’ll quit.

Here's my favorite quote re: the "too many bigs, not enough PT" argument
“I don’t think they operate like everyone else, where they have to fit everyone into a hole,” Bartelstein said of the Blazers. “They work to acquire great, young players and they make it work. And that’s what I think they are doing, trying to get the best players they can. And if (Pritchard) has an over-abundance of bigs? That’s a good position to be in in the NBA.”

at the cost of only blake/outlaw, would be pretty darn nice if you ask me. Not sexy, but solid and underrated. And we get more time to evaluate our young trio.

This is the one FA I think we should overpay to get

Because overpaying for Bass means $4mil a year. He’s only 24, so he can grow up with our guys and he’s already got the skills to be out there.

by superfly05 on Jul 8, 2009 11:58 AM PDT reply actions

I would guess overpaying him

is closer to 6mil a year as a contender can easily throw MLE at him as Orlando might

he is a suprisignly

mediocre rebounder at 10.7% of his teams rebounds. He is a better offensive rebounder though being about middle of the pack and is near the back of the pack on defensive rebounds.

I hope we get him, it would make my outlook on our off-season raise a grade or two.

His poor rebounding % is largely muted by his pairing with Pryzbilla, as his rebound % would cover anything lacking in Bass’s. His efficient shooting percentages and versatility, would also do well to cover Pryzbilla’s complete lack of offensive game in the painted area and a few feet beyond.
In a small ball lineup it would be nice if both LaMarcus and Brandon could mix it up inside enough collectively to make it work and having a quality back up like Brandon would also prevent opposing second units running up such huge scores on us.
What will he be given if he were to come? 5.5-6 mil?
And where are his minutes, behind LA for 12 minutes and mop up duty on forced small ball lineups. Of course, this renders Pendergraph useless and wastes a pick, not a reason to turn away though.

He will end up with Orlando no doubt.

Ten players, two baskets, 13,000 people, one basketball. And we will decide what is done with that one basketball.

by The Pirate on Jul 8, 2009 2:41 PM PDT reply actions

For 5 years/25 mil

it would be a great addition, but much more than that wouldnt be worth it considered how little minutes he would play
