Actually, I'd take Bogut over Darko.

And Darko isn’t awful if you take the fact that he was drafted over Wade, Anthony, Bosh, etc.

Bogut’s pretty good, just not better than Paul and Williams. If they were to do the 2005 draft over again, I think he might still be pretty close to the top of the draft class. His contract is about the going rate for his skill set at that position.

LMA is getting a lot of money. Thanks, Colangelo.

by Cablinasian on Jul 7, 2009 10:14 PM PDT reply actions

that was my first reaction as well...

If Bargs gets 10 per year, LMA gets a max. 15 and 5 is pretty sad for a 10 million per year big man….

No freaking way!

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on Jul 7, 2009 10:27 PM PDT reply actions

wow,

this smells like the D Miles and Z-bo contracts our own boneheaded team gave out awhile back. Well maybe not, those players at least showed they can produce, Bargnani has to be getting paid based on his “potential”, which is the worst way to run a franchise.

15 and 5?? are those really his stats? From a 7 footer? And people say Oden was a bust as the #1 pick…

by usmcr3049 on Jul 7, 2009 10:36 PM PDT reply actions

Oden got hyped a lot

Bargnani… not so much.

While I agree he needs to hit the boards more it is tough to rebound

when you are a perimeter oriented player. He did shoot over 40% from 3 point land. Although I guess Dirk is the same deal and he rebounds pretty well. I think Bargnani is getting ready to break out though. Hedo, Bosh, and Barg…. that is a lot of tall guys that can shoot and handle…. should be a fun team to watch.

by Escrote on Jul 8, 2009 8:21 AM PDT up reply actions

What's funny is.....

Almost all the Raptors fans over at RealGM absolutely love this deal.

Bargnani was playing pretty well towards the latter months of the season…around 18pts 6 reb in 35 minutes per game.

With that said, he’s their center, and 6 boards per 36 for center is beyond horrible.

At this point I think Toronto is better off with Bosh walking, especially if Bargs improves, and pairing him with a more traditional center.

No way Tor keeps Bosh

He must be like “wth is going on here?”

pay him

max deal is gonna start around 13.5. carry that 5 years and it’s a total of 81.675 million, with the final year (2014-15) being at 19.170. Compare that to a deal starting at 12 even. I’ts 72.600 over 5 years with a final year of 17.040. Honestly, what’s the difference really?

How did you guys win that?

Whats the difference?

10 freaking million dollars

The NBA: Where amazingly bad officiating happens, is encouraged, and rewarded.

by The Roybot on Jul 8, 2009 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions

well, 9 actually...

which is almost exactly the amount PA got hit with in tax payments today as a result of the Darius/Memphis fiasco. The guy drops 3 million dollars 2 times every draft day – you don’t think his players see that? he’s willing to drop 3 million to dump a player (Sergio), but he’s gonna come in and get skimpy with one of the franchise cornerstones over 9 million spread out over 5 years? sounds like a bad play to me…

in any case, it’s not like we can use that money to acquire someone else, so its all SPAM at that point.

How did you guys win that?

keep in mind, 5/50 is a far ways from a max deal

max deal for 5 years is 81.675 million (estimated), and starts at about 13.5

5/50 starts at about 8.25 million. pretty huge difference there – 5.25 million the first year, and 7.4 million difference in year 5.

Bargnani turned himself into a solid NBA player last year, but this is still crazy

LMA’s gotta have $$ in his eyes right now. His case for the max just got stronger.

by jksnake99 on Jul 8, 2009 1:16 AM PDT reply actions

Colangelo is off the rocker

$10 million per year is at least 4 too high for Bargnani who is and will always remain a broke man’s Nowitzki.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
