Chris Paul to the Blazers! It could happen...
Three Team Trade (Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Hornets, Oklahoma City Thunder)
1. Blazers Sign David Lee 5 years 50 million - front loaded so that New York won't match.
2. Blazers then Packages Travis Outlaw, J.Bayless, 3 million dollars, and a future first round pick to New Orleans
3. Oklahoma Thunder then Packages Jeff Green and James Harden to New Orleans
3. New Orleans Trades James Posey, and Tyson Chandler (who the thunder nearly had at the trade deadline but backed out of the trade due to health concerns which now seem not to be a concern) to the Thunder
4. New Orleans then Trades Chris Paul to the Portland Trail Blazers
Blazers Trades: David Lee, Travis Outlaw, J.Bayless, 3 million Dollars, 2010 first round pick
Blazers Receives: Chris Paul
Oklahoma Trades: Jeff Green and James Harden
Oklahoma Receives: David Lee, Tyson Chandler, James Posey
New Orleans Trades: Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, James Posey
New Orleans Receives: James Harden, J. Bayless, Travis Outlaw, Jeff Green, Trail Blazer's 2010 first round pick, and 3 million dollars
Trail Blazers 2009 Rotation:
Chris Paul/Steve Blake
Brandon Roy/Rudy Fernandez
Batum/Webster
Aldridge/(fa pick up Bass?)/ Pendegraph / Cunningham
Oden/the Pryz
New Orleans Gets out of Contracts (approximately 40 mil Chandler - 25 mil Posey) - loses their elite PG in Paul, but also replenish on young inexpensive talent while retaining the services of All Star David West. Starting Lineup would feature: Bayless, Harden, Peja, West, and Ely. They will be able to Address center in 2010 Draft., while bringing in Jeff Green.
Oklahoma instantly become a playoff team with a starting five of: Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Posey, David Lee, Tyson Chandler and will bring some much needed interest to the team.
And well the blazers get Paul =)
What do you think? Who does not want to make this trade? Who does?

Based on contracts that are going into next season, the New Orleans Hornets have a team payroll of $77.5 million, which is highest in the league. According to a league source, this is the first time the Hornets have had the league's highest pay
payroll of $77.5 million, which is highest in the league. According to a league source, this is the first time the Hornets have had the league’s highest payroll.
The team is bleeding money and needs to make a move that will get them through the rough times – CP3 will be due a large extension soon and they will still be stuck with Chandler, West’s, and Peja’s contracts. This move will bring them immediate cap relief, while also locking them into several players with rookie contracts. The fans will not be happy. But what is worse, losing your star, or potentially your team?

actually
Utah will be above that 77.5 million number, once they match an offer for Milsap, as will the Lakers, once they add in Artest’s cash. I would have to check payrolls to see about other teams, like the notoriously overspending NY Knicks, to see if there are more, but I am guessing their might be. That blogger didn’t check his facts I think.

OKC
Even before NO comes into the picture, this trade makes no sense for OKC. If they wanted David Lee, wouldn’t they just offer him a contract? They have more cap space than we do. What kind of GM trades away his second best player in order to acquire a player he could have gotten without giving up anyone (plus a player he already traded for without giving up anything of worth before backing out)? I’m not even sure Isaiah Thomas ever pulled off something like this.

Why don't you want Chris Paul on our team?
He’s a pretty good player. Better than Steve Blake even (though who has the assist record for a quarter? Paul can’t be THAT good if he doesn’t hold that record).
Nate will start Blake for the year or two, and then Paul can take over as Blake winds down.

We can not sign a FA
then Trade him before Dec 15th. So if this trade was going to work that is the first hurdle. Second while NO is cash strapped, trading CP3 is their last option, and by last I mean they trade everyone but him before they trade him. Third, if they were to trade him, they are not goint to take 4 role players in return, they will get at least 1 all-star, and not some “future all-star” but a current one. For example if they were talking to Portland they would want Brandon Roy, no one less than. Good idea, but it just won’t work.

Yes.
You are correct. If it is part of the initial deal and the FA is aware of it you can do a sign and trade with them without having to wait until 12/15.

Mike Barrett is responsible (most recently) for this erroneous idea.
by BlazerFanSince1970 on Jul 6, 2009 12:11 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
How does Mike Barrett have a job as a television play-by-play announcer for a NBA team ...
when poor ol’ Kevin Calabro is stuck calling games for the Seattle Sounders FC of all things?
While fans of the Portland Trail Blazers are spoiled in many ways, they are unfortunately stuck with a horrid announcing crew with Barrett, Mike Rice, Brian Wheeler, and Antonio Harvey.
Here, by the way, is my dream announcing crew.
Television Play-By-Play Man: Kevin Calabro
Television Color Commentator: Steve “Snapper” Jones
Radio Play-By-Play Man: Jim Durham
Radio Color Commentator: Dr. Jack Ramsay
Well, that’s that.
by AK1984 on Jul 6, 2009 12:23 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I like Barrett's voice
and the level of description he uses to announce the game (anyone that remembers the disaster when the great Bill Schonely tried to switch from radio to TV knows what I mean), but his constant harping about the referee’s did me in last year. I don’t care if the announcers are homers (I expect them to be) but it is beyond annoying for Barrett to announce that Brandon is fouled on every drive he makes. By the end of last year I could hardly stand to keep the sound on anymore. Rice is so awful he has become strangely entertaining to a lot of fans. Anyway, neither of them even remotely compares in badness to Tony Luftman at half time. I simply refuse to listen to him anymore and thanks to a DVR always skip the half time show or find something else to do at half time.
by BlazerFanSince1970 on Jul 6, 2009 12:45 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Homerism in announcing works for some play-by-play guys, with Chuck Swirsky ...
being a prime example. You, however, are absolutely right that Mike Barrett comes off at times like a whiny, entitled brat, while Brian Wheeler occasoinally sounds as if he’s spasming uncontrollably and about have a heart attack over the airwaves.

His abilities as an announcer
have nothing to do with this discussion, unless you want to say his “lack of knowledge” is why you don’t like him as an announcer. Although on his blog he said he confirmed this idea with a team source or something to that affect, which really would mean he tried to do his homework, it is the person he asked that was uneducated in the cap, he was just a fool to believe him.

I know we're all suffering CP3 trade suggestion fatigue
but Oregon521 put a lot of thought into his trade proposal and deserves more respect than y’all are giving him. I’m not saying it’s not stale cheese, of course. Now here’s my idea: A few of us BEdgers sneak into Area 51 and locate the time machine that I’ve read in a reliable tabloid was captured by aliens from the future. We turn the dial back to June, 2005 and press GO. Once there, we kidnap John Nash and hide him in Isiah Thomas’ Executive of the Year trophy room until after the draft, forcing Paul Allen to turn to Kevin Pritchard for draft-day guidance. KP picks CP3, and D. Stern begins ordering Larry O’Brien trophies for the Blazers for the next dozen years.

Roy has mentioned publicly that Paul is a someone he's love to play with.
But seriously. Every team in the NBA wants CP3. I highly doubt we would be willing to part with what it would take. Even though Paul Allen would probably have no problem going way over cap if it was possible. Chris Paul is a moneymaker, and is the reason the Hornets can sell tickets.

I'm a diehard Washington Huskies fan and actually wouldn't pull the trigger on a Brandon ...
Roy for Chris Paul trade of any variation, but that’d admittedly be due to me going with my heart rather than using my brain. In the NBA today, Paul is a legitimate top-five player — with Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade being the other four guys on that lofty list — so from an objective viewpoint I must give him the nod over Seattle’s own Brandon Roy.
Again, though, I wouldn’t part with Roy in a trade for Paul; however, that’s due to my fandom in lieu of rational thought. Yet, in any event, at least I’m aware of that human flaw of mine.

Screw the Lakers over by bluffing for Odom, then sign Shawn Marion.
Some sources are saying that Shawn’s price has dropped. People are thinking that he’ll have to sign for the MLE. There’s a legit combo 3/4 who plays defense and energy ball with the best of them and will have something to prove after being dissed in Toronto. As far as chemistry is concerned, I’m not sure that I buy into all the knocks on Marion, since I’ve heard other reports that Amare is kind of a d-bag as well. Marion definitely doesn’t play selfishly, and if you want to see some running, he’s got the resume for it. Since he doesn’t create like Hedo, the Blazers would have to redouble their efforts at getting a pg who is better in the pick and roll.

Toronto, Miami and Cleveland might be pondering to move their superstar at the deadline if they seriously fear they can’t re-sign him and would lose him for nothing in return. New Orleans (and Utah for that matter) are not in that danger, since their star point guards have contracts that run through 2012. Even if the owner of New Orleans wanted to move the team to Kansas City or Las Vegas or sell it to another owner, that would be infinitely easier and more profitable with Chris Paul as his flagship player than with a roster full of nice to have players without a single star to put people in the seats.
If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

Crystal Ball
Is it just me or is Baron Davis rotting into obscurity in LA?

Norsktroll Agreed.
But then again I have not looked to New Orleans the past few years as a model of reason.

Yup, he ain't moving. And Harris is probably stuck as well. THis isn't NBA2K9.

I disagree that Cleveland would ever move LBJ
Despite the risk that he might bolt for X team, Cleveland’s fans would burn the Quicken Loans Arena down about 3 seconds after that trade was announced. It would be a public relations nightmare if they traded LBJ, even if it meant getting nothing for him in return as the alternative. Besides, what would a fair trade even be for Lebron? Any trade you do would be getting 40 cents on the dollar at best.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned in this thread
that CP3 is a base-year compensation player this season.

it could happen
i think easier with a trade to minn for rubio then package rickey, rudy 10mill pryz and mabey bayless and blake for tyson and paul. the spanish conn would definitely sell some seats and i think they are 18 over the cap which would save them like 36 mil.

These CP trade rumors getting more and more outlandish
This makes no sense for OKC, considering if they wanted Lee they have the cap room to sign him outright (even ignoring the fact that we can’t S&T another team’s FA), and they already turned down Chandle on injury concerns and Posey has a bad contract and plays the same position as their star player. So they’d be giving up their 2nd best player and the 3rd pick in the draft (both legit young players on rookie deals) for garbage.
Sure, the CP deals look better for NO if other teams are going to let us take their best players and move them to NO in exchange for garbage, but that doesn’t make the deals any more likely, just changes the stupidity from NO’s end to another team’s.

You right what a ludicrous post - i am jumping sides of the fence because this trade does not make sense for OKC in light
that David Lee Could just sign with OKC … thanks back to the drawing boards, looking for the muted star looking to shine in Portland a la Chauncy and Detroit circa his arrival… Thanks for the good discussion as always BEdgers.

And well the realization that we cannot sign a free agent and then trade them away
problems? yes. But still keeping sights close to the skyline.

Has anyone discussed what a terrible deal that is for OKC? Jeff Green is a really good player in that system, has terrific chemistry with Durant, and hasn’t reached his potential at all. You jettison him and a top three pick in Harden for a center with major injury questions, a bench guy in Posey, and David Lee? Pass.
I’ll echo probably 95% of the comments above that this makes zero sense for everybody except Portland. Go back to the RealGM trade machine and try again.

What about
Baron Davis? He is one of the few point guards I haven’t heard anything about.

The Clippers could actually sniff .500 this season and have nobody good backing him up, so that’s unlikely. They’d never get fair value for him and at this point they probably want him around for next offseason to woo a free agent or two. With a starting five of Davis, Gordon, Thornton, Griffin, and Camby, the Clippers could win some games, maybe even challenge for a playoff spot.
