My take on what the blazers need
Scenario #1: dream land: Go get odem. I believe you could get him for what we have available for cash. I go get miller for blake, and cash if we could do it. Then in a perfect world I go to newyork and offer outlaw, bayless, and one of our rooks for a sign and trade deal for bot robinson and Lee. ( Would fit into neyorks plans to have a lot of money freed up for 2010 and they would have some talent. (Dream maybe but I think we could get some of that done).
Scenario #2: more realistic: I sign lee. I know people are going berzerc about paying that much for backing up LA, but think people are missing a fee things. one is that we need a long term answer to back up both LA and Zilla. Zilla will be done after next season. We will not have enought to sign him. So lee know becomes the back up for both LA and Greg Oden, and is an upgrade to zilla. Two is Lee is a warrior and will add some toughness for years to come. Three is that LA continues to work on his great shooting touch I could see oden, LA, and Lee playing together as long as the defensive matchups were right. This would allow LA play outside in which he likes to do.
With signing lee I then go and give up steve blake, love him, but would do it, and outlaw to get hinrich. Hinrich would add the toughness and defense needed in the back court.
I would also take a flyer on Leon Powe. Feel bad for the tough kid that the celtics turned there back on. I believe when healthy he could add some great depth and toughness.
Lastly after this is all assebled I would see what it would take to bring in Lee's back court running make. I think he would see what was going on in PTown with the signings and having the big three and be willing to do a sign and trade with newyork. May cost us bayless, but would be worth it. With Hinrick in place for several years would take the chance to bring in robinson.

i just don't see lee as a fit for a backup 5
as I’m sure AK will point out, Lee’s defensive metrics were abysmal playing at center last year, and Lamarcus is in a similar boat guarding centers as well. As far as Odom, I wouldn’t be as opposed to signing him if it weren’t for the fact that he’s an absolute head case, and is just one positive test away from a year ban, as he’s currently in the league’s substance abuse program.

Joel is tougher than Lee
I think Joel will resign after next season. I also think he will be more willing to accept a secondary role. If LaMarcus gets close to a max contract (which he should) we will be paying 22-23 million a year for power forwards. Kind of a waste of money if you ask me.

You lost me at Hinrich
Lee is probably the best player we have a realistic shot at, so we should sign him, because he fits our needs, and he will have trade value for years, because he is young. I don’t think we can get Odom. Hinrich is not as good as Blake. Blake is on the way up, while Hinrich is on the way down. Hinrich’s best year was several years ago. Blake’s was last year, and he was injured all year and he will improve, Hinrich is what he is. Hinrich would be a reasonable back-up for Blake, but not at $9mil. He would be the highest paid player on the Blazers this year. A roll player PG. Are you kidding? We have our guy for $4mil, which is just about right. Thanks but no thanks.

29-year old players don't usually get a heckuva lot better
We are probably now seeing “Peak Blake”.

??????????????????????????????????????
Blake is in no way better the Captain Kirk. There games may be similar, but Hinrich is better in every faset of his game. To say the Hinrich would be Blakes backup is a ridiculous statement.
