Brandon Bass: 25 million dollar man
Reported by Charlotte Observer. thats actually a pretty reasonable deal. 5 years is kind of long but better than 50 mil for David Lee!
KP, please be the guy who has made this offer...

5 mil a year for Bass is good.
5 years can be good depending on his future expectations. Though, he’s said that he’s not opposed to a non-starting role on his next team.
"SAY NO TO HEDO." Well that campaign FAILed.... Success!
I have no problem committing 5 mil/year over 5 years for Bass. He's 23 years old.
If he doesn’t get any better, its good value. If he improves (I don’t expect him to improve drastically, but small improvements are quite possible), it could be great value. The only way it hurts is if he declines, which given his age seems unlikely to me.
You must mean 24 years old.
But I completely agree with everything you said.

That's an extremely reasonable contract.
If he gets better, it’s great. If Pendergraph gets better than him in a year or two Bass will be very easy to move and get back good value assuming he doesn’t get worse than he is currently.
In other news, Lee's agent just said the Blazers are not ready to sign him to a contract fearing to tie up their cap space for a week
Also on RealGM
If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar
Makes a lot of sense
If we make an offer to Lee, the Knicks can wait until the 15th to match. During that time, our hands our tied and we can’t make a play on any other players.
thats about the same as Joel's contract right?
a very good contract for both the player and the team

Probably less
Joel’s getting paid close to $6 million now. A 5/25 would probably start closer to 4-4.5 million per year.
I believe that would leave us with a little more then the midlevel right?
thats the plan right?

Would he make Joel expendable?
PER
Bass: 16.4
Przybilla: 15.4PTS per 36 minutes
Bass: 15.6
Przybilla: 8.3RebR
Przybilla: 22.8
Bass: 13.4
Spending a lot of money for two centers and two power forwards seems silly. A rotation of three bigs seems like a better idea and Bass might fit a little better.

The interior defense during the roughly 16 minutes per game that LaMarcus Aldrdige and Brandon ...
Bass would play next to each other on the frontline would be abysmal beyond belief. At this point in time, Joel Przybilla is the third most important member of the Trial Blazers — with only franchise cornerstones Brandon Roy and Greg Oden being ahead of him — which is due to the huge impact of interior defense concerning winning basketball.
The stunning amount of recent trade proposals whereby Pryzbilla is dealt elsewhere shocks me. Frankly, I wouldn’t even part with Przybilla for a lockdown one-on-one perimeter defender like Shane Battier; that’s because having a rotation of true pivotman who can play solid interior defense for 48 minutes is the most important thing to have on a team.
As a traditionalist in some senses, I strongly believe that one major hole the front office should fill this off-season is that of the third-string center spot. Even though I’d like to employ a veteran with championship experience like Rasho Nesterovic in that role, any true 7-footer with a serviceabl back-to-the-basket game offensively and adequate man-to-man low-post defense will suffice in case Oden and/or Przybilla suffer an injury or two next season.

Yes, Joel was essential last year
He was really the only big that demonstrated a full understanding of team defense. Joel had the top defensive plus-minus in the league. Maybe not a perfect state for comparing across players, but it definitely indicates how valuable he was to the Blazers defense. Without Joel in the game, the Blazers were in the bottom third of the league defensively.
Joel’s day to be traded may come someday, but not before other bigs prove that they can defend.
I too all last season could not understand the blazers neglecting
to sign a 3rd string center. oden had injuries, joel has a history of injuries, so it seemed obvious some insurance would be nice.
ignacio
Historically Joel has missed 4 out of 10 games with an injury.
00-01: 33 games played
01-02: 71
02-03: 32
03-04: 5
04-05: 76
05-06: 56
06-07: 43
07-08: 77 (would have missed the postseason with a broken hand)
08-09: 82
This past year was something of an anomaly. The odds of him having a season ending injury are high and Joel is going to start losing trade value as he gets older. Trading him when he’s coming off a career season is not the worst idea in the world.
Third most important member of the Trail Blazers? Please. The third most important Blazer is a guy who’s eventual role is going to be 12 minutes a game off the bench? The moment Oden can stay out of foul trouble Joel becomes virtually irrelevant. The Blazers are not going to waste 9 million a year on a 12 minute back-up center.

hold on
where is this 16 minute figure coming from? You’re telling me there will be 16 minutes out of 48 where neither Joel nor Oden will be in the lineup? I find that extremely doubtful. Not including games when both centers are in foul trouble, I think we’d see 4-5 minutes MAX of Aldridge and Bass.
Bass will get 12 minutes when Aldridge is out, a few minutes in an Aldridge-Bass frontline, and sporadic extra minutes when a big is in foul trouble. It’ll probably average out to about 16/game.
"It’s a good ol’ fashioned Rip City beat down!"
Those projections were in reply to Nick Van Excellent, who suggested that signing Brandon ...
Bass would make Joel Przybilla “expendable.” I, of course, love Przybilla with a passion and have no desire to see him traded under any realistic circumstances. In his above scenario, that’d leave the following frontline rotation.
C: Greg Oden (24-32 m.p.g.)
C: Jeff Pendergraph (8-12 m.p.g.)
C: LaMarcus Aldridge (8-12 m.p.g.)
PF LaMarcus Aldridge (24-28 m.p.g.)
PF: Brandon Bass (20-24 m.p.g.)
With a four-man frontline rotation that iincludes only one two center, there’d be anywhere from 16 to 20 minutes wherein a power forward would be manning the pivot. That, without question, would equal bad times defensively.
Now, while I’m not against the possibility of signing Bass, there’s no way that such a move would justify putting Przybilla on the trading block. On the contrary, Bass would slide right into the backup power spot; in turn, Pendergraph would be an emergency big in case of foul trouble or injury.
C: Greg Oden (24-32 m.p.g.)
C: Joel Przybilla (16-24 m.p.g.)
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge (32 m.p.g.)
PF: Brandon Bass (16 m.p.g.)
Again, my whole point from the get-go is that signing Bass has flat-out nothing to do with Przybilla.
Dammit!
In the first sentence of the middle paragraph in the above post, that’d should read as one true center rather than “one two [sic] center.”
Oh well, that doesn’t change my point that Przybilla should be wearing a Portland uniform next season.
ah, sorry, I overlooked that
yeah, I want to keep Joel around too.
"It’s a good ol’ fashioned Rip City beat down!"
Why would we play Pendergraph at center?
He’s a rookie, 2nd pick. His ceiling is basically a decent backup PF.

How does the team stay secret?
This just sounds like his agent is trying to get teams to give him that kind of money.

My question is why is a Charlotte newspaper reporting this
and the Bobcats stated they didn’t make the offer?
"SAY NO TO HEDO." Well that campaign FAILed.... Success!
5 mil a year
Not bad. we were paying our backup 4 (Frye) over 4 mil last year and i’d WAY rather have Bass than Frye.
I've never seen this site react so positively to a contract announcement
And I agree, seems reasonable
Dictated, not read. The management.
It's not a contract announcement, its rumor of a offer
and Bass isn’t rumored to have accepted it yet. It’s just an indication of the market value of the player.
Dallas using their MLE on Gortat
Orlando has until Thursday to counter.
Only way Dallas can benefit is with a “sign-and-trade”, now.
Good $$$$ value and a great fit for our needs.
It sounds like the agent leaked the deal to start a bidding war going.
Hope KP gets it done.
