David Lee? Nate Robinson? general Panic, what gives?
I have been hearing several rumors about what we may do since the "fallout" of the Shedo saga. I even heard a rumor(ESPN i think) that Lamar Odom will sign with the L@kers unless we make a play for him. Why is it that once the Hedo signing was off so many of us felt like the sky was falling? I felt nearly the same as Dave, as he stated in his recent post. However disapointed i personally feel i am optimistic that good things will happen.
Now to address what i stated in my title, Lee, Robinson? really? Lee is a VERY effective PF who plays ONLY PF.....not Center......Not small forward.......Power Forward only.......Some will say " he plays center on occasion for the Knicks." Duh he plays in the NBAs JV league, better known as the eastern conference. For the record let me say the east will be as competative is it has been for probly ten years this year, but up to this year it truely(please no celtic arguements) has been a JV league. My point is, where does Lee fit? We pay him 8-10 mill/yr to do what? play 35mins-gm.....taking from LMAs production. Or, we pay him 8-10 mill/yr to play 20-25 min-gm...he gets upset about PT and we have a distraction. Overall point: bad fit.
Nate Rob- great player, great athlete, bad fit for our squad. (IMHO)I do not and will never buy into the theory that Nate Robinson and Jerryd Bayless are the answer for us at PG long term. We need something at PG but honestly with my limited knowledge i do not know what. What i do know/ believe is that another score first PG is not what we need. Overall point: bad Fit.
Last but not least, rumor flavor of the day: Lamar Odom was one i heard that perked up my ears. This has zero chance in my opinion. Interesting thought though. I still remain firmly in the Sign Marvin Williams and trade Blake, Trout, Etc. for a good starting PG. Reading http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/6/28/928181/marvin-williams-por-favor just made to much sense. Give your thoughts Blazer Nation. Whaty would be your ideal move?

I'l pass on Lee and Nate
Great players, but as you mentioned they just don’t fit in – a bona fide NBA starting PF playing back up to LaMarcus? An older & miniature version of Rex?
I like Sessions and can see him running picks with LaMarcus well and complimenting Brandon’s game a whole lot better than Nate Robinson ever will. With Jennings at the Bucks, we can get Sessions at a reasonable price.
Not sure about who to fix our backup PF situation… a vet who plays around the basket and gives us interior toughness that’s willing to play limited minutes… McDyess would be dreamy, can’t see Detroit letting him go too easily.

I agree man, Lee would be a waste
of talent that will spend a lot of time on the bench. He can’t play anything but the 4 but Odom can play the 3 and the 4. Lamar is a better dribbler, passer, shooter and has more playoff experience.Oh and Lamar is taller too! I am not saying that we should go after him but he would be a better fit than Lee.
With Nate Robinson, I don’t know. I like him as a player and Roy does too as well as coach Nate so he might be a good pick up. He plays with alot if energy and can creatre shots for himself at will. New York has needed him to score for their second unit but he might be able to restrain himself if he had people he respected tell him so.

I much rather go after Odom too..
for the same reasons. It would also be a blow to the L*kers. Odom could actually start at the 3 and backup the 4 just to get him decent minutes (front line Oden/LMA/Odom is impressive). I can’t see Nate being anything more than a short Bayless. At 5’9" he’s got tremendous hops, but at 6’3" so does Bayless.
To summarize: Wade too quick, Kobe too skilled, LeBron too physical - Batum

The sky is not falling
we are better off with out Hedo, To me it seems like everyone has forgoten the other side of Trouts contract the side that means he will be playing his arse off for a big contract which means more then likely 2009/2010 will be the year of the Trout.

Sky is not falling, just a wasted opportunity
There would have been several negatives in bringing Hedu into Portland, but with Hedu at the SF (and hopefully Hinrich at PG) Turkeyglue represented the one free agent this year that would have fit nicely in Portland’s starting lineup, would have the team better, and place us in a position to compete for the championship in the 2009/2010 season.
Lee and Nate wouldn’t be good fits in Portland, and I can’t get excited about Lamar or Marvin W. Lamar has some of the same skills as Hedu, but seems to play much more erratically. I don’t see Marvin as that much of an upgrade over Batum, although he is a bit more of a polished player right now. I’d rather give the minutes to Batum and let him develop.
Unless KP has some sign and trade option in the works, I’m just not excited over the remaining free agents.

Agreed Vegasned.....
i cant really get super stoked for Marvin Williams but i do think given his youth and skill set(good to very good defender, good person from what i have read, and a deadly mid range jumper)he along with Nic could push eachother and compete for the next 10 years or so. If Williams panned out the way i would hope we would be set and good to go at SF for 10 years leaving only PG to fix for our 10 year destruction of the league that is coming up.

The sky looks pretty good to me!!!
In hindsight after the Hedo-coaster of friday, I think we are better off in the long term. The Lee rumors I’m sure have a lot of truth to them, simply because Lee is now probably the most enticing FA available left, now that Hedo is with Toronto. I’m thinking KP is looking at this off-season and crop of FA’s like the draft. You take the best player available, and get the max value out of your money. Lee’s agent said FIFTEEN teams had contacted him about a possible sign-and-trade. We could let Lee play here a year, and trade him for a monster next year. Or find a way to execute a sign-and-trade with another team ( unlikely thought due to Lee’s BYC status. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lee here next year.

Agreed
One question though. If Portland signs Lee is he still a BYC, or not?
So…Lee’s agent said 15 teams (mostly contenders) are looking for depth at the forward postition, yet Bedgers think Lee isn’t a good “fit” in Portland? Do ALL of those teams need a starting PF?
Things that make you go hmmmm
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
