LA playing the 3, hmmm...
If you were to consider Lamarcus seeing some mintues next season playing the 3 spot, this opens up all kinds of possibilities for our roster (rotations, FA negotiations, etc.) Can he guard the 3? he did have to guard pgs at times last season and did a good job, so why not? He has great end-to-end speed for a 6'11" dude, and his length makes up for any lack of lateral quickness (not that he's lacking there) why not have him guard 3s (which could move Batum to guard 2guards - which would be awesome) Then we could have David Lee, or the Twin Towers play the front line. So many possibilities. What do you guys think?

I think myself & a few others mentioned something like this is the Lee post earlier today
I’m for him seeing some minutes there though not sold on him starting at the 3

David Lee is atrocious defensively and Aldridge on SF's would be a nightmare too.
This scenario works in day dreams and little else.

I still don't think that he could keep up with a lot 3's
He could keep up with some like Richard Jefferson, James Jones, Tayshaun Prince, and Danny Granger. But he’d have major problems with the quicker guys like Caron Butler, Josh Howard, and Kevin Durant.

hed get burned by everyone there but james jones.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

Aldridge, funny enough seems to be our best defender on the switched pick
But that’s usually for 1 play at a time. Despite being probably the fastest true PF in the league and in great shape I don’t think he could do it an entire game. Or even extended stretches and doing it full court.
We’re better off keeping that to Batum. Lee would leave one guy open basically. Even if you went with that huge line up but kept Aldridge on the PF defensively that still leaves Lee to cover the SF, which you would never want.

NO
aldridge is not a 3. and when was he guarding pgs? this would be a disaster and would take aldridge away from the basket offensively. this might work in NBA 2k9, but not in real life

Don't you remember?
LMA would get switched (because of a pick and role that that Blake or Sergio wouldn’t fight through) on to point guards all the time. Usually Aldridge would keep 5+ feet between himself and the PG, probably figuring that he could recover with his length to bother PG’s jump shot

maybe
he guards pgs a few plays a game. doesnt change the fact that this is not a good idea. no way could he guard wings on a consistent basis. not to mention the fact that he wouldnt be able to take 3s to the basket off of the dribble on offense. he would be able to post up 3s, but with lee and oden/przy on the court with him the basket area would be very congested if he tried to post up. we need aldridge to become more of a force near the basket, not take im away from the basket completely.

I'm just trying to make sense of it all
Because apparently KP is talking to Lee’s agent
And I can’t believe that Joel will be dealt to “make room” for David…so something’s got to give

Agents are liars?
It’s their job to drum up business for their clients.
Portland is the team with the money right now, everyone’s agent is talking to KP, if he’s taking their calls.

So much negativity
He guarded Durant for a good chunk of our games & did OK for me I’d say maybe this lineup works for (maybe) 10 minutes a game Lee see’s probably 30 min a game that way if & only if we got him and traded Priz for the PG we’re after. His defense isn’t really as horrible as you guys r saying either I’ve watched my share of NY games this year. Is the he’s an athletic white guy thing again?

Is the he’s an athletic white guy thing again?
probably, although I’m sure we’ll get pelted with some defensive EIEIO% stats that most folks agree explain nothing (while appearing to be impressive)
If Portland really wants Lee, then I’ve got to dig a little deeper and try to find out why. If they don’t, then I could care less about him

That’s actually a really good idea. I don’t plan on getting involved in researching ANYONE else until I ind out Portland is trying to get him. The Turkoglu fiasco has pretty much drained me for a while.

Chris Sheridan's reporting that KP is talking to Lee's agent
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4306502&campaign=rss&source=NBAHeadlines
And here’s more bad news, it’s Mark Bartelstein, Trenton Hassell’s agent

After Sheriden's report on Rudy
I could give two craps for what he says about other Blazers.

It would be nice
and maybe we could acquire Stoudamire for a decent package and have the best starting lineup in the universe. Ofcourse, we cant offer enough for the Suns to even consider dealin him.

LMA is a good power forward. Why make him a poor small forward?
by Cablinasian on Jul 4, 2009 9:22 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
It's not like they're going to make Lee a starter
Geez, why do you always have to jump to the most-negative conclusion! What are you, a Blazer fan or something?
(Oops, sorry. I forgot)
What I’m talking about is a rotation where Lee comes in and gives LMA a blow, then Aldridge returns and the small forward (Batum, Webster?) comes out for maybe 5-6 minutes a half. (The center could be either Greg, or Joel) If Przy or Oden get into foul tourble, you could play Lee and LMA with Batum and go “small” (that would be pretty fun to watch, actually)
Is this ideal? Probably not.
Is it being discussed by Nate and KP? Apparently so

I find it hard to believe that KP and Nate are “discussing” this. Lee holds significance in two ways, from my perspective: (a) he’s being considered as a third big, dealing Przybilla, or (b) in a sign and trade to a different team. Paying eight to ten million for a fourth big does not sound like a KP move.

Well, Bartelstein could be telling Sheridan a whole lot of hooey
just to make the Knicks nervous, I suppose. I doubt we’ll be hearing much from any local sources, tonight
(Although somebody must’ve asked Jaynes about the Lee rumor, because here’s Dwight’s latest “tweet”)
“don’t know if he could defend small forwards… he’s more a C-F”

Maybe he’ll put something in his blog, once the fireworks are over

New York reporters have been spreading Lee to Portland rumors for the last year. I’m not convinced.

As I see it, the only way we acquire Lee...
Is if we give up LA, Oden, or Przybilla. I don’t see us losing any of those guys unless it’s a trade for a CP3/Tony Parker type insanely good PG, which is to say it probably won’t happen. LA is a bad idea at the 3 for any stretch of time.

I've seen this part of the movie before...
…back around the time the Blazers tried to solve their glut at PF (Wallace, Grant, O’Neal) by starting Sheed at the 3. As with most of their personnel experiments of the time, it left no one very happy.
I’ve seen David Lee play, and he’s one of those opposing players you can’t help but admire for his sheer tenacity, but one is justifiably skittish when it comes to figuring out where in the world he’d fit in the Blazers’ rotation. My greatest misgiving about the current state of the Blazers is that they’re starting to remind me of the late 90s teams that seemed to be governed by fantasy-league thinking: stock talented players two to three deep at every position. That can look good on paper, but dissension may very well follow. It certainly did in that era.

Shocking...
Do people realize that KP is one of the most active GM’s in the league? He calls each agent and every GM to ask about players. Of course it’s been discussed, he probably calls the Cavs every day just to see what King James’s price would be…
