About that second playmaker....how does Rondo sound?
Rondo is unhappy with Boston. He is entering the final year of his contract. So, Boston risks losing him for nothing next season unless they can extend him this offseason. However, they may be willing to part with him, if they think they are getting all star talent in return. This is where the Blazers could make a play for Rondo, but it will cost them all star talent like I said.
Aldridge for Rondo in a sign and trade for both players. Both Aldridge and Rondo will be playing the final year of their rookie contracts this coming season. I'm not sure about this, but Portland might have to take another small contract back from Boston to push the trade through, since Aldridge currently makes $3 million more than Rondo.
The second move would be to go out and pick up Milsap or Lee as a free agent. Don't underestimate the opportunity for one of these guys to be a starter on a contending team. That would play huge in our favor...and the money of course.
This makes a lot of sense for both sides. The Celtics will have an all star caliber player to replace an aging Garnett if he gets hurts or retires. The Blazers get the second playmaker they covet and replace Aldridge with a slightly less talented but more physical forward. Even though we lose Aldridge, we are better team next season and especially when the playoffs roll around. And the best part all of our core guys are young enough to keep this rolling for awhile.
Lastly, KP would then probably have to ship Blake off to make room at pg.
This would give us a possible starting lineup of:
PG: Rondo
SG: Roy
SF: Batum/Webster
PF: Milsap or Lee
C: Oden/Pryz
We'd have essentially the same bench as last season with the addition of the rookies.
That's a pretty good lineup there and one that would challenge in the west, especially if Oden were to continue to improve.

BLASPHEMY !!!!!!
1st off LMA is a Blazer for life and 2nd why would they do this trade if they have KG and are trying to wooo Sheed ….Duplication of talent they cant all start
The Blazers will play beautiful basketball.
Brandon will shoot the lights out. Blake will run and LMA will finish strong at the hoop. Bayless will play because we’ll be so far ahead in the 4th quarter, giving all the Jerryd fans something to smile about.
But wait, that’s not all. Rudy will go 5 of 5 from distance. Batum will posterize someone. And Channing will NOT lead the team in points.

Both long and short term thinking
You get a younger more level headed and more athletic version of Sheed. LMA would be them long after Garnett retires. You can’t same the same for Sheed.
LMA is a guy you can rebuild around once all the vets have left. Rondo is too, but is unhappy and risk to leave.

LMA
is our second playmaker why would we trade our second playmaker for the 3rd or 4th playmaker from the celtics we need a 3rd playmaker not a second.

Huh?
LMA is our second playmaker
I guess sort of. But not really. Rondo is definitely superior in this respect. Especially if looking at playmaker from the perimeter.

sort of
Who do you think is the second play maker?

Rondo < LMA
Aldridge is a much better player. This deal would be. Everyone needs to calm down about the PG position until we see what Bayless is actually made of. Blake is more than serviceable in the meantime as evidenced by last year’s success.

Rondo is an interesting option
Trading LMA for him is very much not.
If the Celtics (with all their veteran leadership) are having attitude problems with Rondo, enough that they’re prevalent in the media (so who knows how bad they are behind closed doors), it’ll likely be even worse in PDX. Nate probably doesn’t have Doc’s patience for young eccentric point guards, either.
Rondo is an interesting talent, and it’s a little strange that he’s being shopped. But no way would the Blazers ever ever ever consider giving up LMA for him. Now, if you start talking about Rudy/Bayless, or something like that, I’m interested.
Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

I love LMA
and giving him up would be difficult. I guess it all depends on how much you value Rondo. It’s hard, b/c maybe I am overcompensating for my homerism by seeing LMA and Rondo as equal values, but I have to stick to guns and say they are.
No doubt the Blazers would interested as you are
if you start talking about Rudy/BaylessThe real question would be is Boston? My instincts tell me no way.

I'd do this in a second
if we were sure we could get Lee. I don’t think Millsap is happening – I don’t think Utah’s going to let him go.
I’m not a big fan of LMA’s game, not that Lee is perfect, but I like Lee only a little less than I like LMA, and I like Rondo ten times more than I like any other realistic PG options.
I am a little concerned that he’s on the market – the weird thing is we never got any hints of locker room problems until this offseason. Something strange going on. Given the fact that the Celts are the motivated traders here, I’d want them to throw in a first rounder.

Actually, I'll be honest. I like Lee significantly more
than I like LMA. I think they both contribute around equally in terms of bringing wins to their teams, but I prefer guys who produce through hustle and determination like Lee over skilled guys who have a tendency to coast like LMA.
But I’m pretty sure LMA has significantly more trade value. I look at LMA like an overperforming start up stock. I want to dump him while his value is still high.

LMA is a Blazer for life
and criticizing his hustle is a bit laughable. I do like Lee, though.

I highly doubt LMA is a Blazer for life...
He’s a Texas man, and naturally hates the climate etc. I hear he’s not happy with Portland (the city, not the team/fans/etc, and mostly due to the dreary winters).
That said, I’m pretty sure he’ll be around for at least a little while. Why would he leave next year? 2-4 years from now is when we will be strongest, at least as title contenders. Portland will pay him proper in 2010, and all the other teams have bigger fish to throw money at next year. I don’t want to see him go, but sometime in his career expect to see him in a Mavs/Spurs/Rockets jersey.
And along those lines I rest easy knowing BRoy is from the PacNW. He’s much more likely to be a Blazer for life!

well, Blazer for years to come at least...
He may sign a nice contract to close out his career somewhere in Texas one day, but I bet he’ll be around for more than a few more seasons.

I’m tired of hearing it……please stop…

Rondo is an amazing player on the court
For the Celtics to try to move him, he must be a cancer in the locker room. I vote no.

Why would the Celtics trade Rondo?
Unless he’s uncoachable. This trade is one we would regret forever.
Rondo may be available in the next year or two for next to nothing, if he really hates the staff and system there.

No doubt about it.

You're not wrong -- Rondo would be a great Blazer
But I wouldn’t trade big for small and trash our rather amazing frontcourt. All we HAVE to have is a pretty good point guard who meshes with the rest of the team.

Boston is in win now mode
They don’t trade away their starting PG (with no real backup PG) for a player (LMA) who plays the same position as their best player (KG.) A good way of never contending is not knowing where you are in your growth/decline. The Celtics are in last gasp mode (example: signing ‘Sheed) not blowing the team up mode. That comes in one or two more years (unless the whispers about KG being Yao’d are true)
Also, the Blazers are in “add high quality complimentary veteran pieces” mode. They aren’t looking to remake the roster or make wholesale changes. Too harsh of a change and too much of a tradeoff. According to Oregonian article on LMA’s contract extension bid, his agent has a statistical report claiming he is the 6th best PF in the league.

Rondo is an amazing player
He plays well off the ball.
Great defense
Highly efficient on offense (tons of FT and good FG%)
great facilitator
near perfect PG IMO (minus any potential personality issues)
But… NOOOO, I wouldn’t trade LMA for him.
Aldridge = good person and perfect fit at PF
