With AI going to MEM/Conley more available?/ (Nash/Conley?)

Steve Nash

1.) The suns are exploding themselves and starting over.

2.) Nash doesn't make sense to an expiring team.

3.) We could use some vet leadership on our team.

4.) Nash wants a contract extension badly.

5.) Suns might want young local talent that can score to build with Amare (Bayless)

Iverson

1.) Likely will sign in Memphis

2.) Leaving Conley Jr mostly useless with Mayo there.

Conley Jr

1.) Friends with Oden

2.) Improving jumper

3.) Still young

4.) They like Outlaw

Star-divide

Bottom line: I love the though of getting Nash IF we were to have a high potential young guy behind him, because Nash isn't the long-term answer, but I do think he'd be a fantastic fit for our young team for the next three years with his role diminishing each year.

I think an aging vet at PG like Nash (or Miller) coupled with a young prospect like Conley (or Rubio) would be a great combo heading into next year, I'm just not that confident Bayless will ever grow into a real PG, or that we'll do any better next year with just Blake.

Is this realistic?:

1.) Bayless/Blake for Nash (and we absorb the contract with cap space)

2.) Outlaw/? (Pendengraph, etc) for Conley Jr (with them signing AI)

3.) Sign or trade for Kurt Thomas (with a 2nd rounder or something)

Nash/Conley

Roy/Fernandez

Batum/Webster

Aldridge/Thomas

Oden/Pryzbilla

No they don't

They see Mayo as the PG of the future, he handles the ball more anyway from what I have heard, but I may be wrong.

One thing people forget

NOBODY likes Bayless’ game as much as KP.

Our chances of getting Conley Jr.

Disappered when Memphis went with Thabeet in the draft. If Memphis wanted a different PG they would have drafted one. AI is not a long term answer for Memphis so why would they move a young PG with upside to make room for an aging AI. Even with AI Memphis wouldnt be a contender and so it would make no sense for them to mortage their future for a shot to make the playoffs (a chance they may have with thier current roster). Even if The Griz were willing to let go of Conley it would cost alot more than just Outlaw.

Dont get me wrong I have loved the idea of Conley in PDX for a long time. Its just not gonna happen.

I think

that they consider OJ MAYO their PG of the future, and Iverson as someone to help pave the way, who knows though. They did just trade for Z-BO, another name of interest from them is Marc Gasol. Definitely a tough 4/5 who could help here and another Spanish guy who can pass and rebound well.

What would it take to get Conley/Gasol? (and I’d imagine they’d want to include Jaric)

by darkhelmit54 on Jul 4, 2009 11:57 AM PDT up reply actions

I think I would be more excited about Marc Gasol then I would be turky glu.

What about

Trout + Bayless or Rudy for Conley, Gay and Jaric’s contract.

Does that seem fair? Or am I just wistfully trying to get Adriana Lima in Portland?

by AndrewD on Jul 4, 2009 12:28 PM PDT reply actions

I wonder if they would want to trade Gasol now that Thabeet and Zbo are in town

I would rather take Conley Gasol and Jaric rather than your package.

I don't see why they'd want to have just 2 big men

Thabeet, Zbo, Gasol could be a pretty decent frontcourt (or it could suck mightily).

Doesn't work by a long-shot

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kq4ayy

I picked Bayless, cause he makes almost twice what Rudy does. It wouldn’t work if you put them both in, and what do we want with Gay. I can play better D in the NBA, and I’m 4’8" and 560 lbs. Okay, perhaps I’m exaggerating, but the structure of this trade doesn’t work.

I want to put points on your face!

Nash is not availble.

They just dumped Shaq in large part because Steve told Kerr that he wouldn’t sign an extension next year if they kept Shaq around much longer. There’s basically no fair deal that would make a Nash trade happen – Nash means almost as much to Phoenix as Tim Duncan does to the Spurs. Maybe more, dumping Nash would probably have an even bigger impact on ticket sales than Duncan.

by howlingfantods on Jul 4, 2009 1:10 PM PDT reply actions

Nash is the face of the Suns franchise

Even if they don’t plan to be competitive, he is very valuable for marketing purposes (selling tickets and jerseys). Nash is worth a lot more to the Suns than his performance on the court.

by ninjasocks on Jul 4, 2009 1:25 PM PDT reply actions

....................... which must be a relief, since they are PAYING him "a lot more...than his performance on the court" merits.

Neither Nash or Conley will be traded this off-season

And we don’t want Iverson here, he makes teams he plays for worse.

I'm still on the Bayless bus

He had a rough year, but he’s bound to improve being the gym rat that he is. He just needs more minutes. Conley would be nice, but Steve is better than Conley right now. I hate the idea that Oden would somehow magically play better with Conley. No Nash please. Ugh.

Re: Bayless bus

Does anyone think that there might be a parallel between Bayless and Gilbert Arenas in terms of their gym rattyness? Yes or no only please.

They will have the 2 biggest ball hogs in the league and a real shot at immortality by being the worst team in the history of the NBA[smiles while typing].

Which

team was the worst in the history of the NBA?

by LewisClark on Jul 4, 2009 2:44 PM PDT up reply actions

worst team in nba history = 1972-73 philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers, whose roster included the likes of Manny Leaks, Jeff Halliburton, Mike Price, John Q. Trapp and Dave Sorenson, started the season 0–15 and later lost 20 consecutive games. With the club record at 4–47, Rubin was replaced by Sixers player Kevin Loughery. The new coach inspired the troops to a 5–26 record and a .161 winning percentage, compared with Rubin’s .078 mark. The most productive player for the club was guard Fred Carter, who averaged 20 points for a Sixers team that used 19 players by season’s end.

(Wikipedia) Fred “Mad Dog” Carter wasn’t that bad — and they also had 6’8" F Steve Mix!

A good Bayless would be even Better

He could shoot in college 40% on 3’s, he could still shoot in practice but not games..
He can drive and draw fouls or finish with authority. Very good pro skill.
He just need to distribute and get more confidence in games.

Well, friend, since you asked — NO, it is shortsighted, one-sided, and suicidal...
Is this realistic?:

1.) Bayless/Blake for Nash (and we absorb the contract with cap space)

Steve Nash is the worst defensive PG in the NBA. He plays a style of basketball absolutely, utterly, totally, completely dissimilar from the Nate McMillan style. And he is OLD and not much longer for the league.

You do not give up a proven Fully Adequate performer and a potential future star for a superannuated bad fit…

Let alone the wasted cap space!!!
