Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Jason Kidd

You know the old saying: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. With the Hedo debacle behind us, there are only a handful of free agents available right now. One of them is Jason Kidd. He is on his last leg but he can fill a void the Trailblazers need ...a veteran playmaker that can take pressure off Brandon Roy. Not only that, he can had for relatively cheap and for 2-3 years. That will give us ample team for Bayless or another option to develop. Who knows, we might entice Jason Kidd by dangling an assistance position with Nate in a few years. Judging from the interviews Monty Williams have been getting of late, he won't be around forever.

Jason Kidd is taking the holiday weekend to mull over offers from Dallas and NY Knicks. Dallas offered him $24 million over 3 years and Kidd is leaning towards this. We can offer him a little more for 2 years. This is a stopgap solution that might work out for the best.

The downside to this is if Jason Kidd plays for us, we would go from the 2nd youngest team to the 2nd oldest team in the league. We can't be young forever. :)

5 years 4 mil a peice!!

He’s looking for security and an opertunity to win a championship, shoot even if we’re just paying a coach in a roster spot the last 4 years of the deal I think it’s worth it.

you can’t teach the kind of experience jason kidd has. Undefeated in international comp, true student to the game I think.

shoot 16 mil 2 year contract.

For A Point Guard

Jason Kidd is a rebounding machine. He has a career average of 6.7 rebounds a game and last year, he still averaged 6.2, despite his AARP status. That’s more than either Brandon Roy, Travis Outlaw or Hedo Turkoglu.

we need to fulfill brandon's request

and get him a back up 4. brandon bass is my choice.

Kidd is another piece that I could see helping but if we are in need of a third scorer I would go with miller due to his better offensive repertoire

Make a play on Kidd and Bass

Dallas might not match both, But if we are trying to get the best asset on the market that isn’t the best left

I love Kidd for this team

Reasons-

He may not be able to guard the Chris Paul, Aaron Brooks type-players, but neither can Steve Blake. He can guard the 2 and 3 spot however, his strength is still there.

Kidd would be the answer to what went wrong in that Houston series, namely our inability to do the LITTLE things that win basketball games. The dude’s as scrappy as it comes.

The veteran that this team needs. He’s been around the league, people LOVE to play with him, and you know that Nate appreciates him from their time together in the Olympics.

He can hit the spot up 3 now. Off the dribble he’s still suspect (even from mid-range), but he hit close to 40% from downtown this past year.

All that said, I assume Dallas is the front runner, I don’t think NY is a sure thing as far as LeBron and the summer of 2010 goes, and since he’s very comfortable in Dallas I’m guessing he’ll stay and take Cuban’s money.

If I were KP I’d offer 3 years and 25 million. It’s a tad more than Dallas is reportedly offering, but here he’ll get the chance to help lead a team to a title. Dallas is already on the decline.

And it will drive up his asking price.

I say we offer Odom.

just to drive up his price for the Lakers. Then Kidd. Then Bass.

I watched a considerable number of Dallas games last season.

I can say with authority: DUDE IS OLD. DUDE IS SLOW.

Kidd was my top priority from the get go.

Here is my logic:

1. He can get Aldridge easy buckets on the fast break.
2. He can execute the pick and roll.
3. Contrary to popular belief, he can shoot the 3-ball. He was the best three-point shooter on the Mavs last year. He shot 44.7% from the three in the playoffs.
4. No better player for Bayless to learn from.
5. He only wants a three-year deal vs. the five that Hedo or others want.

You run the risk that at some point in those three years he can no longer be as productive, but it’s unlikely to be year one. By the time he can’t compete, Bayless should be ready to go.

excellent list

Is there a better 3pt shooting PG that is reasonably available?

Dallas is offering him 3 years at $25M

New York is offering him 3 years at $18M.

We are not making him an offer. He had a chance to play here before he was traded to Dallas and scrubbed the deal. All talk of Kidd to Portland is his agent trying to drum up business, it is never going to happen.

nerver ever

should we take kidd he is too old to keep playing and can you ever see kidd in a blazers jearsy hanging out with our blazers? Don’t do that to our team. Anyways kid doesn’t want to play here.

by true2trout on Jul 5, 2009 12:56 PM PDT reply actions

Kidd is old

Kidd will be 37. Name any other effective 37 year old point guards? If the Blazers give him 3 years he will play til he is 40? Give me a break. In our minds we still see the Kidd of old not the Kidd of last year who couldn’t stay in front of one point guard in the league. The Blazers would be throwing the 20 to 24 million out the window. Mentoring and teaching is overrated especially at 8 million a year.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
