Hmmmmm, Lee's agent said 15 teams that were over the cap contacted the knicks about a sign and trade.
Lee is now the best asset on the market. Take the best asset I suppose. Where would we find room for a 10m / year forward / center? I think this would be a sign and trade.

Actually the article doesn't say that the Blazers have talked to Lee's agent.
It speculates that they might.
It does say that they’ve talked to Nate Robinson.

he wants to start
same with milsap. The only option we have at the 4 are players like turiaf, bass, anderson, varejao. I would take bass as he is young and a banger and said he doesn’t mind back up.
then we go after miller.

Ugh. Miller. I'd rather pay Hedo 60 mil for 4 years

When did Nate McMillan fall in love with Nate Robinson?
Coach McMillan has a long-standing allergy to midget PGs, doesn’t he? This sounds like more propaganda created by the agents.

Forgot about
Turaif. Roy has publicly stated that he wants Ronnie in a Blazers Uni and I do too. Just being able to play at any kind of level after the heart surgury is an amzing feat all in itself. But if talking about trades, like I have said a lot today, lets go after G.Wallace or J.Smith. I just dont think that Atlanta will do any trade with Smith.
What's the differance of 3-6 mil? oh about 20+ more losses, and the chance to watch the only star leave by the end of the season. Suck it Hedo!

10 million for backup…No.

I Want DLEE or MILSAP and a PG!
I want DLEE in a Blazer uniform! He is what we need more than we ever needed Hedo. We all agree that we need a backup PF and a starting PG. DLEE fills the PF spot perfectly. Paul Milsap is another PF that I would love to have. Paul is even 2 years younger than DLEE. Either of them would be a huge improvement, and a way better pick than Hedo would have ever been.
The pg list of FA’s is really still pretty good: JKidd, Miller, Bibby, Hinrich, and Nate Rob. Nash is unhappy in PHX, so he is an option, even CP3, though a real long shot, is possible. (N.O. wants to clear salary).
We still have a good chance at doing what most of us wanted. So lets go get that PF and PG that we need!
Who agrees or disagrees?

How does a $10 million per year backup fill any role perfectly?
No PF is going to get more than 10-15 minutes per game playing behind LMA.
Also, Hinrich isn’t a FA and Robinson isn’t anything like “pretty good”.

i agree robinson is hype plus has attitude problems.
his antics especially in denver knicks brawl really make me dislike him

Lee or Milsap as Backup
I think Lee Lee Knows he cant get 10 mil in this market. He also knows that Milsap will be competing for any contract that he might get. So at this point, he would take a decent offer. Same with Milsap. We should target them both and pick who givs us the best deal. As for the pg role, im still very undecided as to who we should pickup. We have alot of decent options, but no single one stands out from the rest. I put pretty good for the pgs because I didnt think any were “really” good or greeeaat! For me pretty good means decent, average or just slightly above average.

How about....
Signing Lee as a backup PF/C and then sending Pryz to Houston for Battier?
Will Lee be happy as a backup?
I’m convinced that a defense guy like Battier is really what Oden needs to develop. Good defense on the perimeter keeps him from fouling smaller, quicker guys as he comes over to help which means he gets more time on the floor to play his game.
I LOVE this scenario…way better than Hedo.

Will Lee be happy as a backup?
I dont know. Its definitely questionable. But Lee should be able to get a decent amount of minutes because he is multipositional. I guess I would rather have Milsap over Lee, and Milsap is already playing backup, so maybe he would still do that with us.

They are both reasonable opti How about.... Signing Lee as a backup PF/C and then sending Pryz to Houston for Battier? Will Lee be happy as a backup? I’m convinced that a defense guy like Battier is really what Oden needs to develop. Good defense onons
I love Joel and he is on my keep list. But if we could get a C-F big that scores, that could mean that Joel expendable.
I would want a lot for Joel, though. He is a legitimate NBA center, a rarity these days. He’s a great rebounder, and a solid man and help defender. I think wherever he plays, likely in PDX, he will be loved for his toughness.

I think Battier for Pryz...
is a remarkably symmetrical trade. Both make about the same salary-wise, but are known for being tough, smart defensive specialists, and both have limited offensive abilities (though Battier’s 3pt shooting outweighs Pryz/s dunks.)
Also, I talk about trading Pryz with all sorts of respect. I love the guy. And I think he ought to be starting somewhere. I think he’d be great in Houston.
by LicketyBrindle on Jul 4, 2009 12:59 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's still a year too early to start thinking about trading Joel
First, Greg Oden has to show he can stay on the floor 30+mpg
Second, KP and Nate really like Przy, and why shouldn’t they? He’s a good soldier who will play hard every night and never complain about his role
Third, Joel is a team leader and the backbone of the team’s toughness. Something they need more of, not less
Like I wrote yesterday, I like the "idea’ of Battier. He’s cerebral and would add some of the BBIQ that the Blazers were looking for, when they went after Hedo. But other than Joel or Rudy, it’s hard to think of a player that will make Houston think twice about parting with Shane

it would likely be 10m for a 3rd big. you need a solid 3 big rotation in the playoffs. joel would likely be gone.
by dario argento on Jul 4, 2009 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Bass isn't going to get $10 million
Millsap probably isn’t going to get $10 million. Sheed and Gortat aren’t going to get $10 million.
You should be able to get a solid 3rd big man for the MLE. $10 million is more than 1/6 of the salary cap and way too much to spend on a reserve.
by ninjasocks on Jul 4, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
don't think of Lee as a "backup"
Think of him as “an extremely valuable member of the rotation” and “a candidate for 6th man of the year”
(At least, that’s what you tell his agent…)
Energy off the bench, during an 82 game season who doesn’t need more of that?

Why would
anyone want Battier on this team? He doesnt give you anything more than Batum can. If Lee is going to be coming off the bench whats the point?
by BBG on Jul 4, 2009 11:54 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
That's just not true
Battier is one of the smartest defenders in the league, and will give up the starter spot to Batum when he’s ready with no drama. He has value on our team.

Joel for Lee
would be a tough call for me to make.
Of course it’s a huge gamble that Oden will be healthy.

Lee Could Be A Good Fit If....
1. He is quick enough to guard 3’s on the wings, allowing us to play a huge front line.
2. He could knock down a mid-range jump shot (I personally have not seen him play enough to make that call).
3. He would accept playing a platoon type of role in multiple positions (sf, pf, & c)
These are some major assumptions, but I could almost buy it for the matchup problems he could create by being on the floor with our existing players. I also think he would be great in small ball type of lineup of PG (hopefully not Blake), Rudy at SG, Roy at SF, Lee at PF, and Aldridge at C. He would give a little long-term insurance against future injury problems Oden might encounter. 10 million per year for a backup is unreasonable, but I think he would probably play starter minutes even off the bench due to his versatility.
I kinda like it personally…. and I would rather have him than Hedo.
by sevyms on Jul 4, 2009 3:39 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
and the results are in.....
1. no
2. nope
3. probably not.
I like Lee, but he just doesn’t fit. We have an established (by KP & Nate) need for a starting veteran SF, a starting veteran orcornerstone PG (matters what management thinks of Bayless and Blake), and maybe a someone to spell the 4 when LMA is out his 10-12 mins a game.
Bringing in Lee Works on XBOX, not in the Rose Garden. Refer to the Sig.

Refer to the Sig
well I don’t know, there once was a 6’9 point guard who went from being a “gimmick” to creating a “Showtime” dynasty
Every once in awhile “the gimmick” breaks the mold and then your competition has a matchup nightmare and suddenly they find they can’t quite duplicate your success
(I wouldn’t have any personal experience in this area, unfrtunately, but I’ve heard it said…)

LMA would be a better fit for the "SF" slot
if you brought in Lee and had to find them both minutes together on a “long” frontline

I don't know how David Lee is realistic simply with Aldridge here...
This is something that shouldn’t happen….please…
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Blazers needs? The Blazers still need a back up power forward and IMO Antonio McDyess is that player that they need at that spot. And McDyess is a very good Vet.
Mark ‘Dyess’ down for a double-double each night. After re-joining Detroit mid-season, the polite veteran posted a workmanlike 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. McDyess could replace Yao in Houston, where he, coincidentally, has his off-season home. But if KP can Make him an offer and let him know Portland is where he needs to be if he wants a RING. The Blazers need McDyess as their back up power forward/Center. And he won’t cost as much as Lee and IMO you get the same thing from both players. And I like D.Harris better then A.Miller and that just MO
