NBA 2K9(PS3) BlazerMania Simulator
Like many of you, I own the greatest NBA simulation game ever to be concieved(Live is too arcady)- NBA 2K9.
And like many of you, I have been racking my brain going through different combinations for the upcoming season.
Luckily with the powers of the interweb, many other players have uploaded up to the minute rosters that I can test out without much fuss.
But I digress...this thread is going to be updated continuously as I go along in my season with the new/probable Blazer changes. These are REALISTIC roster expectations so don't expect to see Lebron and Wade in Black and Red like NBA Jam....
Hold the applause please!
--------------------------------
This one was a big downer because of Turkyglue snubbing, but I did manage to play two 48min games before work today, and I am actually glad he left to Raptor Land...read on...
Roster:
Harris(traded Blake+Outlaw+Bayless to NJ)/ Mills
Roy/Rudy/Webster
Hedo/Batum/Cunningham
LMA/Pendergraph
Oden/Pryz
Game 1: 122-107 LOSS to Orlando.
Ouch.
I run a bunch of ISO/pick and roll with ROY and Harris for the first 2 quarters. Harris is a quick mofo, very adept at scoring layups around the trees inside.
Now Turkey was the 3rd/4th option on this first half experiment, trying to create a few shots, spotting up for 3 etc. He was guarded by Vince Carter most of the time I had trouble getting around him with dribble drive, and Turk has a fairly slow and low 3pt/long range shot(sans fadeways) so I had more trouble there.
Only in the 3rd/4th QT did I start to experiment with Turk and the Pick and Roll. Fun stuff folks. LMA/ODEN were crashing to the hoop with pinpoint passes from Turk after he would often get doubled after he threw down a few shots off the pick. But we couldn't quite eek out a win, Dwight was just too much inside with his insane alley oops from Nelson.
Game 2: 133-124 LOSS to Mavericks
Only gonna say one thing: Kidd is still a baller-in NBA 2K9 at least. Dropped 30 points, 15 dimes, and 4 steals on me. Would he really do this against the super quick Harris and company in real life? Doubtfull.
------------
Overall though like I said, with this roster there were just too many shooters and not enough shots to go around. Turk/Harris/LMA were all around 13-15 with Roy being top man at 20ppg. Turk was unathletic and just redundant. Much better options for Roy/Harris and if Batum can be more like Pippen, he will be nice ballhandler/distributor someday, making Turk pointless and a waste of money.
HAVE FUN IN CANADA!
-----------------------
Sent Turk to Toronto.
Kept Harris.
We shall see what happens for the future...but I will swap players in out and to model the most realistic roster combinations coming down the pipe....
*Note I did have an earlier franchise going where I had Gerald Wallace and he is indeed SICK with the Blazers.

Cool idea.
I wonder what the outcome would be if you sim’d 2 seasons of the Blazers, 1 with and 1 without Hedo to see player stats/record with and without him. It would be interesting to see the difference. I think you should keep the rosters the way they are though (no trades) if you end up doing this. I haven’t got that one yet, i’m gaming on a budget – only old titles from gamestop, $20 and under :(
Damn the Blazers. Damn them to hell. - 'The Sports Guy' Bill Simmons

You can get NBA 2K9 for PS3 for under $25, maybe under $20 if you hunt around.

maybe you just stink at playing?
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

er, what i meant to say was
you should just try simulating instead of actually playing.

Too bad Harris will not be a Blazer
If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

I wason All Star....I hadn't played in like 2 weeks ok lol.
And I was testing the new players more than anything instead of running my tried and true offense.
I may run through a few full season sims as well, that’s probably the best long term indicator of anything.

Sim ahead, and do the devolpments
these blazers have potentional to be great. i had both LA, and Oden at 99’s in 4 seasons. Basicly unstopable
Thats to bad you let bayless go because he is over rated in that game. his release is so quick you can get a shot off anywhere.
I have tried plugging several points into this lineup. And what i have found, is that being able to penetrate and assist (j kidd) is not as important as being able to play d and hit the 3.
