Greatest Blazer Dunk
did it involve the glyde
Id be intrested in reading what you people think is the greatest Blazer dunk that you can remember..Im sure it involves Clyde or Gerome..also have you noticed that when a big man gets posterized its usually because a guard was playing lousy perimeter defense or the offensive player just blew past his man..and caught the big fella out of postion ..I.E. john starks, david thompson or mj (freak athletes) ..guards generally dont go that strong to the hoop when those 7 footers are lying in ambush mode. its a good way to get on i.r.. I hate to say it but its probably going to happen to greg sooner or later..and it will be played all over you tube and sports center..I .hope he realizes that it wont be his fault

My most favorite dunk
was from Billy Ray Bates. That dude was sweet. I was young, about 8; 1982 possibly. I’m not sure who they were playing (maybe the Jazz). Blazers were down by 2 with 1 second to go. This was back before they showed 10th of seconds. He broke down the middle of the key, caught the inbound, and went up. He dunked on someone, came down, and the horn blew. It was amazing. The popular response would absolutely say Clyde. That’s the easy answer. But man, Billy Ray could get HIGH! Pun intended!

too bad we don't have more video highlights of Bates
other than that alley-oop he caught from Kermit, there doesn’t seem to be much footage on BRB
Before there was Clyde, Bates was the most-athletic Blazer. A man among boys, but he couldn’t handle the down time…David Halberstam wrote a chapter on Bates in his fine book “The Breaks of the Game” (if you haven’t read it, check it out on Amazon)

That was a sweet play!
I remember that one too! That guy could thrown down like nobody else. His dunks, for a small, were powerful. He reminded me of a mini Darryl Dawkins.

Porter by himself?
I remember watching Blazer games since I was 5 years old. And every year I would wonder if TP would ever dunk. He never did…..
Until one night against the Suns. They were easily our most heated rival at the time (along with the Jazz.) and TP had the ball on a break all by himself and elevated for a dunk. Sure he barely got it over the rim, but the rarity of the occasion is what made it special.
As far as rim-rockers go, Clyde and Kersey threw down too many to remember. I will scour the archives of my mental, and see if I can remember any in particular. Buck Williams had some vicious throwdowns too.
And as NBA TV rated it, B Roys soul-taking of Cheik Samb might be the best ever.

I remember that
Supposedly, Rod Strickland was giving him a rough time about not dunking in a game. I think Rod flushed it a couple games before or after Terry…

Clyde's dunks are unbelievable.
1-3 are all more impressive than any Roy dunk ever. Plus most of his dunks were against tough competition, not raw rookies.
Best dunks by Blazers are from people like Kersey, Clyde, and Cliff.
Best modern Blazer dunkers: LMA & Outlaw; just wish they attacked the basket like their predecessors.
Rudy, Batum, & Bayless will probably be our next generation of great dunkers. (Oden’s dunks are amazing, but they aren’t really what gets me going, same with Shaq’s).
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

Oden doesn't dunk with the power of a shaq it seems like
that up and under move he did against Bynum should have been finished with a two handed flush and some rim hanging….alas it was not to be.

Wow
That last dunk was the best, you just don’t see anybody taking off from that far out in a game.

Agreed
And he holds the ball up for a long time, like a trophy. As if to say, “Look what I’m doing to you. Still doing it. Aaaaaand finishing…… now.”
Rex is a starter by the 2010 trade deadline. Watch.

My favorite Clyde dunks aren't there.
I liked the ones on the fast break when someone would throw the pass higher than I thought anyone could possibly reach, and at full sprint Clyde would somehow elevate high enough to get one hand on it and slam it through all in one motion.

Man that brings back hecka memories on the real!
What's the differance of 3-6 mil? oh about 20+ more losses, and the chance to watch the only star leave by the end of the season. Suck it Hedo!
Who is that you ask, well that shell of a man with his junk tucked away I think his name is Hedo. At least he used to be.

traffic
Thanks for the link blazeraider – It’s nice to see fancy fastbreak dunks with no defenders, but nothing compares to a dunks in traffic. I loved the dunks over Manute Bol, Ralph Sampson, and I believe I saw Tm Duncan being victimized there.
I have a feeling there will be lots of dunks this year by our beloved blazers. Batumshakalaka!!!

most of drexler's dunks
one of my favourates is when he was coming back from knee surgery. he’d only played in 2 or 3 games. then against the Jazz he jammed it in Mark Eaton’s face. Magic was commentating and went off. He loved it. I loved it. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love it. Drexler was awesome

I'm with you on that one
I’d been a little worried about Clyde getting his elevation back, then he just skied on Eaton. That was no small task either; Eaton was and is a huge dude, and had the blocked shots to prove it. I remember Magic raving about that one too; I think he had a genuine appreciation for anybody with the sort of above-the-rim game that was one of the few things Magic didn’t have in his arsenal.

Clyde had a sweet alley-oop
at UNLV against the Lakers when they moved the basketball game due to the LA riots. I will always remeber that one.
This one from ’sheed is pretty sweet too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bscp34JHfkU

Clyde over Isaiah
My favorite dunk of all time, he goes over Isaiah with a nearly from the free-throw line take off. Isaiah tries to take the charge, but he’s just too far below the glyde.
Also, the old VHS superslams of the nba had a dunk clyde did from maybe a foot in from the free throw line on a fast break with multiple defenders closing in on him. awesome. You just dont see people leaping from far out as clyde would.

that's the one
the one great shining moment where Portland “Beat L*A” and went on to win it all
there have been many more impressive individual slams by Blazer players over the years, but Walton’s dunk epitomized a “changing of the guard” in the western conference. In hindsight we know it was just a brief period of time when the Blazers ruled the west, but at the time (WC finals, 4-0 sweep)) a stronger statement could not have been made…WE ARE NUMBER ONE!
Here’s hoping Oden will have a similar dunk over Bynum in a playoff series to come, and Portland’s reign will go on to last for decades

Brandon on Cheik Samb
Not only did Cheik Samb’s headband come off we also saw his little spirit fly outta the staples center too…One of my favorites was Travis on Rodney Carney during the streak of the 07-08 season our 13th straight when travis cocked it back then banged out on Carney.

Best dunk I ever saw at the MC
was by the great David Thompson (Michael Jordan’s idol growing up) driving down the baseline from the far corner in front of the visitor’s bench, soaring through the air some unimaginable distance, and slamming home a dunk that shattered the backboard. IIRC, that was the first broken backboard in the MC (at least at a Blazer game). But there were others. Anyone remember another visiting player that broke a backboard at the Blazer’s end of the court? Luke would.

I loved
B Roy’s dunk over Samb, but I have to give it to Clyde’s dunk over the Admiral. Very impressive.
On a different note, the most impressive dunk I ever saw over a Blazer has to be this one by Dr. J. over Bobby Gross. If I remember right he had another one that game over Bill Walton, but it shouldn’t hurt too much because we had the last laugh by winning the NBA championship that night.

My best dunk memory
1992, Blazers versus Lakers in Las Vegas in the 1st round of the playoffs (LA Riots). Drexler took a lob pass from Kersey that no human being had any business catching and threw it down. This ended up leading to the Drexler versus Jordan series in which we had a shot to make 3-3 going to game 7, but the Bulls came back from 15 (I think) in the 4th to best us 4-2.
I found the video, it’s at about the 1:55 mark

Mighty Mouse Alley-Oop to Sheed from Half-Court
I remember being super impressed by this fast-break dunk mainly because it was thrown from what seemed like half-court and Sheed caught it at full speed and flushed it down, all with only one hand. I’m pretty sure it was against the Hornets, too bad there’s no YouTube that I could find. This has another pretty nice one from the Jail Blazers days though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvrUjf2_6bs
