Shawn Marion??
Now that Hedo has committed to Toronto for $60M over 5 years, Shawn Marion is now available. Toronto was forced to renounce him to get the cap room to sign Hedo.
Nate would love the Matrix's versatility as he can guard 1-4 effectively, can slash to the hoop and run the floor. He is also the best rebounding SF in the league. He is not the Allstar that he was in Phoenix, but he is a SERIOUS upgrade from Batum/Outlaw and would give the team a great perimeter defender.
Matrix can be had for $32M/4 years, leaving some flexibility for a sign and trade for Hinrich/Sessions/Miller.
I have heard rumors of some problems with Miami and Phoenix, but would KP take a chance??

He is a big upgrade over Outlaw/Webster/Frye(All would be gone) and Batum as a starter(now would come off the bench).
Much better defender then Hedo. Much better rebounder & is far more efficient. I just made a post about it.
I called it while Hedo was being pronounced as being signed as a Blazer http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/7/3/937065/the-icing-on-the-cake-revealed
I like him for us better then Hedo, in terms of moving forward as a championship contender in the west.

One more time...those were not "rumors"
‘I’ve got to worry about my future,’ Marion said when asked if the uncertainty of Chris Bosh remaining a Raptor factored into his own decision. ‘I’ve got to be selfish right now because I can’t worry about nobody, I’ve got to worry about myself.’"

CNNSI’s Chris Mannix reports on Phoenix’s chemistry issues:
Which brings us back to Marion. While the Matrix has been one of the most statistically productive players in the league over the last five years, it has become clear that Phoenix is looking to make a change. Word of chemistry issues in the Suns’ locker room has filtered through the league since Phoenix’s second-round ouster. If you discount seldom-used Jalen Rose (one general manager called him “the worst locker room lawyer in the league”), those problems can only be attributed to Marion and Amaré Stoudemire.
Jack McCallum, another CNNSI writer, spent the 2005-2006 season on Phoenix’s bench. He wrote a book, 0:7 Seconds or Less, on his experiences. And McCallum addresses the issues between the Suns and Shawn Marion:
It hurts him that he has never been The Man in Phoenix. Jason Kidd was The Man, then Stephon Marbury was The Man, then Nash became The Man the moment he showed up in the summer of 2004…Worse, Stoudemire before his injury, seemed to have settled into Second Man status behind Nash, leaving Marion as the Third Wheel. After he was selected as an All-Star reserve, Marion said, "Ever since I’ve been in Phoenix, I tried to make myself the face of the Suns on and off the court. That’s what it’s all about." But he is not the face of the Suns. Nash and D’Antoni are the dual faces, and whenever Marion’s face appears, Stoudemire is likely to, also. That drives him crazy. He appreciates Nash and gets along with him, but doesn’t feel the same about Stoudemire.
"Around here it’s Steve this and Amare’ that," says Marion. "What people forget is that I had to adjust my game to different people. I had J-Kidd. I had Steph. Now I have Steve. All of them are different. I made the adjustments. You got to give me credit now. Don’t overlook that.
"The other thing is, people judge players on points. And I think that’s wrong." That is obviously directed towards Stoudemire.
I don’t think I can object more strongly to the idea of any current player being acquired by Portland. Marion would be someone that Bob Whitsitt would think was a good chemistry experiment. Shawn would “fit right in” with Rasheed and Bonzi and Gary Trent and Ruben Patterson and JR Rider. Please, let’s not go down that road again!
It’s not necessary

Media
Has really been trying to play up him.
‘I’ve got to worry about my future,’ Marion said when asked if the uncertainty of Chris Bosh remaining a Raptor factored into his own decision. ‘I’ve got to be selfish right now because I can’t worry about nobody, I’ve got to worry about myself.’"
Is there anything really wrong about this? Its not like Toronto offers him the best chance to win. He is not exactly a good interview & isn’t exactly media savvy. But he has never done anything disrespectful to his team mates & they have never once said bad things about him. To compare him to the Jail Blazer era is unfair. He has been angry the last two years because he is a competitor & the teams around him since 05-06 were mostly transition teams. The stable waters here in Portland could be exactly what his career is looking for. Better defender, rebounder, more efficient player.

maybe you can be his publicist?
you certainly have Shawn’s back, tonight
The articles I copied/pasted were from different writers (one is an excerpt from a book, the writer travelled with the Suns for an entire season) and were published at different times and not for the purpose of perpetuating a smear campaign on Shawn Marion. If you took the time to google search (instead of defending his character) I’m sure you could find other examples. But if these few haven’t convinced you that Marion would be a poor choice to be signed as a free agent for the PTB, nothing that any of us can say will be sufficient
(Feel free to ask Ben or Dave for their thoughts re: Marion, if you like.)

No Marion
He got the deal for Hedo killed by not taking the money he could have had, most likely costing himself millions. Greedy and Dumb not what we need.

I sure hope not
Marion would be a horrible fit, on the court and in the locker room.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
I do think Marion is a negative in terms of personality and character
But the fact that the Raptors, who took the guy we wanted, are desperate to shed his salary, to the point of letting him go for free—all that tells me we should at least have a look at him.

He is and was a unrestricted free agent. It annoys me the way the media has played that they had to renounce players to sign Hedo. The only thing they renounced was the cap holds they had on them. That limits their ability to sign them when they are over the cap. They traded for Marion’s expiring contract and now they used that space for someone else just like they planned.

Never
"Good, Better, Best, never let it rest until your good is your better and your better is your best." Tim Duncan
No Marion.
Try to get Milsap first. Marvin Williams. David Lee. Andre Miller.
Also, don’t forget that it doesn’t HAVE to be a free agent we go after, we can still also work a lopsided trade with that capspace.
If Marion is even on KPs list, he’s probably waaaaay down the list. We have much better options we can go after first.

Shawn Marion will never be a Blazer
And we’re all better for it.
