I think he’d be a great backup 4 but it sounds like he wants starting minutes and $$

I started a poll re: Battier

but another poster suggested Odom and now I’m warming to the idea of Lamar in red/black

I like Sessions also, even though he’s not much of a shooter. I just don’t think Milwaukee has any desire to sign and trade him, and with Jefferson/Villanueva gone they’ll probably match just about any offer KP makes with Ramon

by two4larue on Jul 3, 2009 10:51 PM PDT up reply actions

probably

although they have 8mil in cap room and are supposdly going after Childress with MLE.

if that happens I would be surprised if they go over cap to retain Sessions and he would be pretty affordable in that he might cost less than MLE, but MIL would be stupid to let him get away.

Odom cant score like Hedo, but he can play point forward and has a real nose for rebounding, but keeping that dude focused is always a problem, but when he is on he is a fantastic player. I just try not to push him to hard as there is a lot of vitriol for Odom around BE.

Not as much as there is for Hedo, my how the worm can turn

But you know how fans are, if KP went hard after Lamar tomorrow everyone will be “on board” with the idea in 24-48 hours. Except for the ones who just want to be contrarian (I can fall into that camp myself from time to time, especially when there’s an opportunity to be witty)

I don’t know if Nate and Brandon could keep LO focused any better than K*be and Phil did. I wish I could pull up the article where Nate told a reporter how impressed he was with Odom at the USA basketball tryouts. I remembered it because it caught me off guard; everything i had heard before re: Lamar was that he was a cruiser who got by on his talent but didn’t apply himself, but Nate said he worked hard, etc. Maybe Nate will lobby KP to go after Odom now? We’ll find out soon enough

by two4larue on Jul 4, 2009 2:13 AM PDT up reply actions

It might be a nice change of pace

as Phil is into head games and Kobe likes to yell, and maybe LO does not respond to that.

Nate seems more into a direct and calm approach that might be more amenable to LO.

Shawn Marion

Followed by Blake and Travis to Philly for Andre Miller

by Rip City Reign on Jul 3, 2009 10:30 PM PDT reply actions

Bleah!
‘I’ve got to worry about my future,’ Marion said when asked if the uncertainty of Chris Bosh remaining a Raptor factored into his own decision. ‘I’ve got to be selfish right now because I can’t worry about nobody, I’ve got to worry about myself.’"

http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2009/04/shawn-marions-plan-this-summer-be-selfish/

CNNSI’s Chris Mannix reports on Phoenix’s chemistry issues:

Which brings us back to Marion. While the Matrix has been one of the most statistically productive players in the league over the last five years, it has become clear that Phoenix is looking to make a change. Word of chemistry issues in the Suns’ locker room has filtered through the league since Phoenix’s second-round ouster. If you discount seldom-used Jalen Rose (one general manager called him “the worst locker room lawyer in the league”), those problems can only be attributed to Marion and Amaré Stoudemire.

Jack McCallum, another CNNSI writer, spent the 2005-2006 season on Phoenix’s bench. He wrote a book, 0:7 Seconds or Less, on his experiences. And McCallum addresses the issues between the Suns and Shawn Marion:

It hurts him that he has never been The Man in Phoenix. Jason Kidd was The Man, then Stephon Marbury was The Man, then Nash became The Man the moment he showed up in the summer of 2004…Worse, Stoudemire before his injury, seemed to have settled into Second Man status behind Nash, leaving Marion as the Third Wheel. After he was selected as an All-Star reserve, Marion said, "Ever since I’ve been in Phoenix, I tried to make myself the face of the Suns on and off the court. That’s what it’s all about." But he is not the face of the Suns. Nash and D’Antoni are the dual faces, and whenever Marion’s face appears, Stoudemire is likely to, also. That drives him crazy. He appreciates Nash and gets along with him, but doesn’t feel the same about Stoudemire.

"Around here it’s Steve this and Amare’ that," says Marion. "What people forget is that I had to adjust my game to different people. I had J-Kidd. I had Steph. Now I have Steve. All of them are different. I made the adjustments. You got to give me credit now. Don’t overlook that.

"The other thing is, people judge players on points. And I think that’s wrong." That is obviously directed towards Stoudemire.

Marion

Has some warts, but provides solid perimeter D, can slash to the hoop, rebound like no other SF in the NBA and run the floor.

He is the best option available and can be effective in the playoffs.

by Rip City Reign on Jul 4, 2009 10:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Shannon Brown anybody?

a very decent PG option….athletic and can get to the hole, shoot the 3, decent defender. And we’d steal from LAL

I didn't mean to turn you on

by dukedee on Jul 3, 2009 10:53 PM PDT reply actions

I am leery that

he would be a pg for Portland as he was a pg in LA in name only. He rarely handled the ball, but he did play nice D.

The Blazers just got “Boozeranged” by Hedo and then wind up with the prototype model?

the answer to your question is no, they’re both PFs

How About...

Mr. Antonio McDyess. Any thoughts? Yes? No? Also, could it be that other GM’s have grown to resent our savvy and seek to thwart our plans?
In this case (Turkgolu) , I believe that we dodged a bullet. But that’s just me. Very happy about this… Hello everybody.

I've had enough rejection for one day

I don’t think the Blazer’s brass could suck it up and sell the city/team to another dude who really wants to live in Motown. (Which is nearby Toronto on the last map I looked at, BTW)

I don’t think the Raptor’s GM (Colangelo) can be blamed for any act of subterfuge, he was turned down by Shawn Marion so he went “all in” for Hedo and won on the flop. KP will live to play another hand

by two4larue on Jul 4, 2009 2:26 AM PDT up reply actions

McDyess would be nice....

and pretty cheap I would imagine. Vet, banger, content backing up LMA. Scalpel move, which is what this team should be looking at anyway….although I had warmed immensely to the idea of Hedo, solely because of how great it would have been for Greg.

small moves are the best option now, don’t blow up the team, see what we’ve got then go for something lopsided before February if a few key guys regress or don’t improve at the rate we expect, namely Bayless. I’m fine with the PG situation ‘as is’ so long as Bayless brings it next season. Also, I don’t think the logjam at SF will be a huge issue because Martell’s foot is a huge Q mark still.

What about Oden’s big man coach? Are we still bringing in Rodman or what?

Sessions + Bass

by Norsktroll on Jul 4, 2009 2:05 AM PDT reply actions

I like these choices

If the front office was targeting a SF due to an impending trade, I wouldn’t mind Odom or even Moon. I also really like Powe as a back-up PF. There are options, but trying to guess what KP is holding in his hand is tough to tell. That guy has a good poker face.

It took my two years to come up with an avatar and sig
and this is the best I could come up with.

My picks

PF: Bass, McDyess, Birdman

PG: Kidd, Bibby

Team Bayless - The takeover begins in 2009

by blazeraddict on Jul 4, 2009 9:09 AM PDT reply actions

I disagree.

Jason Kidd isn’t going to be on the Market. He wants to stay with his team, from what I’ve been hearing recently. Mike Bibby is definitely past his prime. Offering him a contract that would amount to any success would mean he would shrivel up before he’s done.

Lamar Odom

I dont care that he was a Laker. I dont care that he eats candy. I dont care that he has supposedly cruised by on talent and not worked for it. He is an upgrade over any of our SF right now and he can come in and back up the PF spot. If we were going to find the minutes for Turk we will be able to find the minutes for Odom. Bringing in Odom makes us longer, more versatile, and it weakens the lakers. The sigining of Artest and loss of Ariza affects the Lakers in a negative way if they fail to resign Odom. Odom is a better player than Hedo. If KP was willing to go all in to get Turk why not go all out to get Odom?

David Lee or Paul Milsap

Unlike Turkoglu, these guys actually address the team’s biggest need, add defense rebounding, scoring, toughness, and hustle. Now that LA has Artest, we may not match up well against them, which is probably part of why they got him, seeing the blazers as the next threat. The Rockets may be on the ropes, but we still can’t get away with not adding toughness if we want to go all the way.

by wingzeta on Jul 4, 2009 1:12 PM PDT reply actions

Blazers needs?

The Blazers still need a back up power forward and IMO Antonio McDyess is that player that they need at that spot. And McDyess is a very good Vet.
Mark ‘Dyess’ down for a double-double each night. After re-joining Detroit mid-season, the polite veteran posted a workmanlike 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. McDyess could replace Yao in Houston, where he, coincidentally, has his off-season home. But if KP can Make him an offer and let him know Portland is where he needs to be if he wants a RING. The Blazers need McDyess as their back up power forward/Center. And he won’t cost as much as Lee and IMO you get the same thing from both players. And I like D.Harris better then A.Miller and that just MO
