Good Find

Wonder what the probelm is

The Blazers will play beautiful basketball.

Brandon will shoot the lights out. Blake will run and LMA will finish strong at the hoop. Bayless will play because we’ll be so far ahead in the 4th quarter, giving all the Jerryd fans something to smile about.

But wait, that’s not all. Rudy will go 5 of 5 from distance. Batum will posterize someone. And Channing will NOT lead the team in points.

Mostly the Blazers didn't offer as much as money as reported.

Why should the Blazers offer that much when no other team would give him that much money anyway

Hmm

Weird. Why would so many sources say there was an agreement if nothing was actually agreed upon, unless it’s his agent trying to up the offer from Toronto.

by Bskey on Jul 3, 2009 6:20 PM PDT reply actions

Hooooooly cow. Ridiculous. I hated the idea initially, but the realization that he was probably coming forced me to think a lot about it.

I really jumped on the bandwagon and thought it would be good for the team, and then got real excited when an agreement was reached. Now it’s off, for the time being. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

same here

hated it, then accepted it, then embraced it, now feeling emotionally destroyed.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Is this the guy you want in Portland? Really?

‘I’ve got to worry about my future,’ Marion said when asked if the uncertainty of Chris Bosh remaining a Raptor factored into his own decision. ‘I’ve got to be selfish right now because I can’t worry about nobody, I’ve got to worry about myself.’"

http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2009/04/shawn-marions-plan-this-summer-be-selfish/

The Suns also have wanted to address chemistry problems in their locker room. Marion long has felt he doesn’t get the respect he deserves – or at least not on par with that of Nash and Stoudemire – and asked to be traded after Kerr turned down his request for a three-year, $60 million extension shortly before the season.

Rule #1 of Negotiating - You Don't Negotiate Against Yourself

I bet once Pritchard realized Hedo’s options with Toronto had dried up – and perhaps realized that Battier may be in play now at a much cheaper number – he realized it was crazy to pay 5 years and $50+ mm.

Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Where does Hedo go?!

I hope we never again consider signing an over rated

aging, money grubbing player.

I think there are far too many people who remember his 3 pointer against us in the regular season or that block on Kobe and forget everything else. 14.8 PER! 30 years old!

And justifying over paying him because he’s the only decent player available that is an okay fit is the worst logic I’ve ever heard. If you have to justify an acquisition like that it wasn’t a good acquisition.

I’m so happy we aren’t getting Hedo. We can do an unbalanced trade. Or we can just keep the same guys who got 54 wins. I’d rather let the cap space go unused than sign Hedo.

considering this is the only FA period we will have for a long time

I don’t really care if we can attract FAs. We can get players through trades and through the draft. We have great management, great fans, a good soon to be elite ballclub and money to spend. It’s a real shame that weather and nightlife are more important to Hedo/his wife than winning games.

It’s no big loss to not be able to sign players who make that kind of choice.

You're right

But it still stings. Especially when guys like Artest jump at the chance to play in L*A for a “discount”

It smacks of an uneven playing field

But that’s nothing new, either. Portland’s got to be a “better” organization than the big market teams just to stay even. And when we get our chance to beat their brains out I’ll enjoy it all the more!

Bulls fan here

Since I don’t see the Bulls having much use and I think the Blazers could put together as good a package as any, I really think Hinrich would be an amazing fit in Portland. I really couldn’t think of a better guy to pair with Roy (considering reasonable possibilities). Outstanding defense, above average perimeter shooter, and a GREAT team guy. I personally would like to get Blake and Webster in return, which would achieve my cap space goal. But I really do think Hinrich would be a great fit for what it’s worth.

I don't doubt that Outlaw is the better player right now

but I value Webster’s position, as well as his skill set. I think he’d be a nice backcourt mate with D Rose. Plus Outlaw’s gonna have to get paid after next year, while Webster has a pretty friendly contract. But the injury issues do scare me a bit.

You'd be in the minority

of folks who would take the risk of dealing for Martell right now. I agree that Webster “should” continue developing into a fine player when he can return to health, and all indications are his rehab is progressing nicely. No set-backs that we’ve heard of

But I’m curious how he would help your cap-space more than Outlaw, seeing as how Webster’s contract runs though 2013? (Outlaw’s expires next July, which is why “we” think that the Bulls might prefer Travis, instead) If the Bull’s management values Martell as highly as you do, I don’t think you’ll find too many folks around here who would hesitate including him in a Hinrich deal.

Portland’s front office might feel differently, of course…

Small forward wasn't our biggest need anyway.

It’s point guard. And now that we aren’t getting a small forward (Hedo) that has the ball in his hands a whole bunch, maybe we can go after a really good point guard (who is obviously going to have the ball in his hands a lot).

by axel360 on Jul 3, 2009 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

To hell with Hedo

Life moves one. We dont need to overpay for a 30 year old Euro. Toronto is about to break the bank and renounce 3-4 players to sign a guy that wont get them even close to contention in the East.

And to hell with Hedo’s wife. He needs to get her in check. He is about to play for a weak team for the rest of his career because of her.

I say we just roll with who we have into the season. Maybe pick up Bass on the cheap, but I see no reason to spend money for no reason on sorry ass free agents.

I just hope KP goes after Brandon Bass or a similar player to shore up the backup PF position.
