Best next move is Hinrich!
The next deal has to be Hinrich. Adding perimeter defense to what we already have will make us a contender. Outlaw and Blake for Hinrich. I like Blake but we get a large upgrade on defense. Any chance we can retain the MLE after Hedo and this trade or do we have to use it to sign Hedo? Could we be so lucky to add Brandon Bass also!

Good point
But Martell is not healthy and hard to trade. He will need some time so being the 11th guy would have to do for now!
1977 = 2010
We have to
renouce the MLE as well as all unsigned players, and other exceptions we have, (trade exceptions, and the Bi-Annual exception) to get under the cap far enough to sign Hedo, so no we will not be able to use it.

Un-Yuck
no question Hinrich provides us with improved defense at the point. Keep in mind a better defensive point will take some pressure off of broy just like hedo will take some pressure off on the offensive end. If not Hinrich then who?
1977 = 2010
How is hinrich not an improvement? He posts similar number to Blake as far as shooting goes, but slightly better all around, and gets to the rim more.
That’s not even mentioning his far superior defense. Blake was exploited on defense so bad in the series vs houston it wasn’t even funny. I love the man, but he is completely unable to fight through a screen. hinrich I believe would instantly make us better. He would also immediately cut down on some of the Oden fouls that PG’s get against him after they blow by Blake.

A slightly improved Blake for about 5 more million dollars?
My avatar is 3 years into the future for sure...
He's not way overpaid for 30+ minutes a night, starting caliber PG
Slightly overpaid for the current market – and Blake is underpaid.

Right
If you look around the NBA as a whole, I don’t see any way to conclude that Kirk is way overpaid. I agree he’s overpaid for the role the Bulls have for him, but no more than slightly overpaid for a team that would start him at PG.
The issue that comes up here is that Blake is substantially underpaid for a starting PG. Add in the fact that the things Kirk excels at aren’t really captured in the box score, and that the basic stats are comparable, and when you compare Kirk making twice as much as Blake in the coming season people jump to the way overpaid conclusion.

If the Bulls agree to it of course
I don’t see the reason for them to trade him until the trade deadline, but if KP can work it out, I would be completely 100% on board.
I think the Blazers just acquired a big PG upgrade – a second team all NBA’er . Perhaps you have heard of him….Brandon Roy. The starting lineup will be Brandon, Rudy, Hedo, LA and Greg. Brandon will be able to do that because with Hedo and Rudy he will have plenty of help getting the ball up court and initiating the offense.
Yes, we will not have a lot of fast breaks, but we haven’t since beginning to build this team. Our bench will consist of Blake, and Martel in the back court, Nic at the 3 and Joel at the 5. Hedo will swing some over to the 4; Brandon will play some 2, and Martel will play some 3. Nic be guard some 2’s and even 1’s taking more pressure off Brandon.
As for defense, the presence of Hedo, Greg [and Joel] and LA on the inside will discourage drives. Some teams wil be able to score on us but they will need to shoot a very high percentage from outside
For a comparison, think of the Bulls with Michael and Scottie. For the most part, they ran the offence. Because they [and Steve kerr] all could handle, and MJ and Scottie were great offensive weapons, they could share the load and run the offence in an efficient manner.
This scenario requires a 9 person rotation, which is something we can just about manage if we use it to reduce the minutes and thus wear and tear on our stars It also necessitates that we trade [or give away] Travis. KP’s comments suggest (1) that is what he intends to do and (2) the Blazers do not intend to target some other pont guard.
Have you ever considered CHEMISTRY ?
Some posters on this site have been calling for this trade
& that trade repeatedly. Blake had a great year. He fits well with
the team and alongside BRoy. He brings the ball up the court,
sets the offense, then works to position for the outside shot.
He has a excellent Assist to TO ratio, is a team player and gives
a great effort every night. Obviously he could be a better perimeter
defender, be able to break down his man and get to the basket, but
isn’t that really Roy’s speciality. I liken him to a John Paxson playing
along side Jordan.
Bayless will improve this year, especially when learning the team
defense schemes and how to play the pick & roll. He’s a better athlete
and eventually will be the starting PG, but in the meantime I think he will
play the role of Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson. A strong combo guard
who can get to the basket, draw the foul, move the ball and contribute on
perimeter D with GO, Joel & Smooth giving backup !
PATIENCE !!!!!
It's GO time !

Since Turkoglu decided to go to Canada, Hinrich might have become a BETTER possibility.
Chicago could get way under the cap for the Summer of 2010.
Via Storyteller’s contract info for the Summer of 2010:
Kirk Hinrick 9,000,000
Luol Deng 11,345,000
John Salmons (ETO) 5,808,000
Derrick Rose 5,546,160
Tyrus Thomas (QO) 6,236,806
Joakim Noah 3,128,536
James Johnson 1,428,000
Taj Gibson 931,400
1 round pick: ?
Total: 43,423,902 (+ cost of first round pick)
That alone is enough to add a near max player, but it’s close. However, if Chicago is a destination for free agents, they would certainly be interested in making more room.
Blake + Outlaw for Hinrich drops their total salary to 34,423,902 (+1 first rounder) in 2010.
Not extending the QO to Thomas drops their salary to 28,187,096 in 2010.
John Salmons may figure that he’s worth more than 5.8 million and opt out, dropping their salary to 22,379,096. (+1 rd.) That’s just enough to sign two max free agents to pair with Rose, Noah and Deng.
Find a way out from under Deng in 2010 and they have a mere 11 million (+1 rd.) in salary committed for the biggest free agent market in years. This is where our Cap space comes in. Deng’s Salary this year is 10,365,000. That’s going to be pretty close to how much we could be under the cap.
If this is their plan, Hinrich and Deng could very well be available right now. That, and in 2009, they field a fairly competitive team with Rose, Salmons, Thomas, Noah, Miller, Blake and Outlaw. Plus they have opportunity for their new draft picks to grow as well. All they really need is a SG. And one might might be available with the mid-level exception, if they were willing to take a one year deal.
I think it would work out well for both teams involved. Depending what the goals are.

I think "fairly competitive" is an exaggeration.
I know you’ll find some Bulls fans who would agree with this – being currently angry at management for “letting” Ben go, some are ready to dump anyone they don’t see as a long-term fit right now. But this would remove two of the Bulls best defenders for not-so-hot defenders, and I don’t think Blake+Outlaw’s offense equals Kirk+Lu’s.
Plus, 2010 is a big gamble right now as it is, but decimating the team in hopes of hitting it huge in free agency? That would be pretty much the reverse tactic of everything our play-it-safe front office has done recently.
But Lu’s contract is bad unless he can get and stay healthy, so that alone might be reason enough.

You're probably right.
But I think they wouldn’t do too badly. At least not embarrassingly badly.

Maybe you have more faith in the Bulls than I do ;)
I mean, I wasn’t trying to say they’d be Milwaukie Bucks bad or anything, but I’d say that’s at best a borderline playoff team in the East next season.
Remember, we’ve got Vinny del Negro calling the plays, so we can’t exactly count on the coach getting more than the sum of the parts.

I like the Bucks.
Probably because they’re not good and I love rooting for the underdog.
But you’re right about VDN. I didn’t see a lot from him this year that made it look like he was a good coach. Of course, I didn’t watch much of the Bulls either, so I’m hardly qualified to give an opinion. But a borderline playoff team in need of a couple of players worthy of a max contract for a deep playoff run, especially big-city Chicago, has got to be more attractive than a bottom-dwelling team in big-city New York who needs a couple of big-name players just to MAKE the playoffs.
At least it would be to me. Not that that means much.

Oh, and I'd still like it if Kirk could end up in Portland
It’s just with Ben Gordon gone, I don’t see him leaving unless it’s as part of a trade for a big-time inside presence.
