Hedo Signing = Bayless Starting PG?
Quick question for discussion. With the signing of Hedo, we now have 2 legitimate ball handlers that can be on the floor at all times (roy and hedo). Does this open up the starting PG position now to Bayless? With Roy and Hedo, Bayless won't need to necessarily play as much of a traditional role and could be more of a scorer/playmaker. Is this KP's plan or will we be seeing another option, like Captain Kirk, in the next few days?

I love Bayless...
But this answer all depends on an improvement in his outside shooting

By mid-season, I'm pretty confident Bayless will have learned help defense/our system...
to be a better defender than blake, and if he can shoot like draft experts said he could, look out

Blake will probably still be starting for us next year.
Don’t see a team out there willing to give us a decent PG. I would think Batum for Defense would start before Bayless, unless Bayless shows he can play great defense, and knock down 3’s.
"Knowledge will get you from A to B. Creativity will get you anywhere." Einstein
It unlocks the door.
It’s still on Bayless to open it and walk through.
Deep stuff right there.
Bayless has got a pretty jumper, last year it was off. Lets hope he can find it again. With consistent minutes you should see him improve in this department.
I would rather see bayless on the bench because Blake would help spread the floor and create space for B-Roy and Mr Turk to do their thing.
Momma.....der go dat man
But Bayless draws attention
Bayless can drive to it, and I’m hoping the real development will be on his dish move. Right now everyone knows he’s going to the hole. If he gets his dish in order, I think that frees up the three shooters plus Oden down low, as he draws attention. Blake can spread you out, but Bayless can break you apart—and I think in the end that’s the better way for the Blazers.
I think that frees up the three shooters
Currently the Blazers have 2 “three shooters” Blake and Rudy
Roy and Hedo can shoot 3s, too, but I’m talking about the pure shooters from distance
So if they take Blake out of the starting lineup and put in Bayless, there would be no main 3 point threat on the floor, then the defenders can “sag in” and restrict penetration, plus their rotatios will be shorter to double-team Greg/LMA. Bayless’ penetration will not be effective in this scenario
So, Blake and Roy are a good “fit” for the starting lineup, with Jerryd and Rudy coming off the bench for a change of pace, while still keeping a 3-point specialist on the court at all times
Then, at the end of the games if the Blazers need more offense, they can play Rudy and Brandon together in the backcourt. Sure, this will cut into Bayless’ minutes, but if he can improve his shooting and playmaking when he gets the opportunity (summer league, workouts against team USA, fall camp) Jerryd will force the issue and carve out even more minutes for himself in the rotation
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Rudy/Webster on the floor with Bayless to shoot 3s

The third perimeter starter (in addition to Roy and Turkoglu, who fill the playmaker roles) will need to be able to defend the other team’s best perimeter player (1, 2 or 3), finish at the rim on backdoor cuts and lobs, and hit open 3s. The PG label won’t fit him.
Bayless will be able to guard 1s, but is too small to guard 2s and 3s and as of yet is not a proficient 3 pt. shooter.
I’m a huge Rudy fan. From an offensive standpoint, Rudy is the best option, but comes up short on the defensive end if you want him to be the defensive stopper. Rudy is the perfect guy to back up Roy and Turkoglu in the playmaker roles.
Ultimately, the third starter comes down to Batum vs. Webster. Batum has the edge on the defensive side (except against certain players like LeBron James and Joe Johnson) Webster has the edge as a shooter. May the best man win. The other will be a great backup.
