The Pictures Don't Lie: Andre Miller is a Portland Trail Blazer

Andre101_medium

Slightly after 4PM today, Andre Miller held up the jersey of his new team: the Portland Trail Blazers.  Miller chose to wear #24, a number he wore in the NBA prior to wearing #7 in Philadelphia. Asked about giving up #7, Miller said he didn't even consider requesting it in Portland and joked, "That's The Man's number!"

Andre knows the Trail Blazer's sets, but he doesn't know the fans yet.

Oh sure, he talked about the energy we bring to the arena. Anybody who has played in the RG knows that.

But to have a room full of children turn ugly at first mention of the L@kers?

Welcome to Portland Andre! You have only begun your journey down the rabbit hole.

How can you not love a guy that looks like a character from Sandford and Son. Will be cheering from the second Row center court all season

Demond Wilson!

Exactly! THAT’s who Miller looks like. I was thinking Richard Pryor, but that wasn’t quite right, Then I thought maybe Gregory Hines, the dancer/actor. But you’re right…Andre is Lamont Sanford, and we all know who will play the role of a much-taller Redd, err Fred…Greg Oden!

Nate said the Blazers will run more this season ...

because Miller is a very good rebounder…. huh???

Memo to Nate: It’s legal under NBA rules to run when your center gets a rebound.

by BlazerFanSince1970 on Jul 28, 2009 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

....

Not many centers are comfortable making 3/4 court passes as the likes of J-Kidd and new Blazer Andre Miller do. Having your PG grab the board take one dribble and zip a pass down the court into the hands of a streaking wing is a quicker, more effecient way to run a fast break.

Miller is also very good at the skip pass in the half-court.

by EagGolfer3 on Jul 28, 2009 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions

plus now that so many teams shoot and miss a lot of 3s there are long rebounds

and when a jason kidd or andre miller catches one of these near the FT he’s already beginning at least an exploratory fast break

Nate also said that "the players on the floor dictate the tempo"

but I’m sure AK1984 will throw out some pace factor stats to “disprove” what the Blazer’s brass is saying…

by two4larue on Jul 28, 2009 10:18 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

My point was that we have an excellent rebounding team and we could start a fast break

with an outlet pass from a center (or PF, or ….). We’ve seen a few of those over the years. We haven’t been playing like slugs because we have been waiting for a point guard that can rebound. That’s ridiculous.

Also note that Nate finishes every comment about how he wants to run by saying something like Miller (or whoever) also knows when to pull up and get us into an offensive set if the break isn’t there. You have Daddy’s permission, but screw up one time and you are grounded for rest of ….

by BlazerFanSince1970 on Jul 28, 2009 11:23 PM PDT up reply actions

remember Magic?

He was the first PG that I remember who would rebound and start his own fast break. Sure, the outlet pass will always advance the ball faster than the dribble, but a great PG will hit the cutters with diagonal bounce passes (or kick-ahead lobs) while he’s still in the backcourt

Miller is not Johnson, but it will be fun to watch him producing easy baskets and encouraging the Blazer big men and wing players to actually run the floor

When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

by two4larue on Jul 29, 2009 11:24 AM PDT up reply actions

What could Magic not do? Remember the 1980 Finals when

Magic started at center against Philly when Kareem was injured. They won the NBA championship that game. He was a rookie and had like 40 points and dozen or more rebounds. He was simply amazing.

Like add some stars for some countries we subjugate?

Let’s take over Argentina and Chile. We could probably get at least five states by divvying them up. That is five more stars, except we could make the new stars have more South American flair to them. We could also add an extra red stripe for the blood we shed during the war and another white one for the peace we enforce afterwords.

Maybe jscot can help with this. He’s supposed to know how to take things over somehow.

But really, it would be really lame to change the American flag. And it would be nearly just as lame to change the Blazer uniforms.
