The Oden effect

Greg Oden's impact I think can be seen in these statistics. Clearly his rebounding has helped the Blazers defensively, limiting the opponents scoring opportunities. It is also clear that the Blazers shot better (.448 in 0708 and .465 in 0809) making fewer rebounding chances available to opponents. It would be interesting to see if the blazers shooting percentage went down during the games he didn't play.
Does any body else have some statistical info to contribute?

Oden did help the rebounding however..
Joel had a much improved rebounding year, as well as nic batum’s offensive rebounding. Oden cannot simply be given all or even a large percentage of the credit, after all he did miss quite a few games.
this
and how many times 2 years ago did Nate have to put Joel back in, eventhough he didn’t get a full rest, because the Blazers couldn’t secure a rebound? About once a game or maybe once every 2 or 3 games at the least. Last year this team lead the league in rebounding, (by percentage .534, Laker lead the league in total rebounds per game because of pace), in 07-08 they were 20th in the league.
07-08 – Porltand is out rebounded by 1 rebound per game
08-09 – Portland out rebounds its opponents by 5 rebounds per game.
The only major addition was Greg Oden, LMA didn’t rebound much better than 2 years ago, and Joel rebounded about the same as 2 years ago, (14.3 reb/40 in 07-08 14.7 in 08-09).
Adding oden to the team cause a ripple effect which made both the starting unit and the second unit very good rebounding teams, there were very few times during last season where the Blazers didn’t have a dominate rebounder on the floor.
Joel’s rebounding stats, 14.7 R/40, 22.8 rebounding rate. #1 in the NBA
Oden’s rebounding stats, 12.9 R/40, 20.0 rebounding rate. #8 in the NBA
Joel has posted back to back great rebounding years, mainly because he has been healthy both season, so there is reason to believe he can do it again next season, even in dimished minutes if that happens.
Greg was in his rookie year, coming off MF surgery, he should improve even in this area this coming season, and for the next few years.

of course..
of course he would help rebounding…
of course he would help out defense…
but those stats aren’t only affected by the addition of oden.
It’s a combination of joel, batum …everyone stepping up.
Where oden will help is ..blocks, presence and changing shots..
someone should figure out the statistics for a player like oden being able to change shots in any way without a foul.
that would be a good indicator of oden’s direct presence.
