7/27 late evening Junk (you can still use it on 7/28 if you want)

This Junk popped up outta nowhere (as is sometimes the case). Thanks to Idoltime for putting me into a John Lennon frame of mind

Give a listen

Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feelin' two-foot small

Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

How can I even try
I can never win
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I'm in

How could she say to me
Love will find a way
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

threw the sod on a trailer and the back of the trailer came down HARD on my toenail. lost the toenail, it grew back messed up…so they had to slice open my toe and fix it.

PREZ: Dramamine, alcohol, etc. supress REM sleep, so you’re better off lying awake until you fall asleep on your own (otherwise you’ll still feel tired despite having slept). If you wake up at the same time every day, including weekends, your body will establish a healthy circadian rhythm. Just go to bed when you feel tired, and don’t worry about how long it takes to fall asleep. Your body knows what you need—-just hop in bed when you’re actually tired—don’t have a set bedtime. When you’re sleepy, it’s bedtime.

Give yourself two weeks of this and see how you feel. I’d wager large sums of money you’d feel considerably better.

get some sleep bud. I’m goin’ to bed as well. Even if you’re not officially sleeping, just having your computer off and the lights dim is good for you. You can get back on a regular melatonin producing schedule. Also, if you want to feel truly rested, go for a few weeks without using vodka or Benadryl or anything to get to sleep. Using stuff like that generally suppresses REM sleep and you won’t feel fully rested, even if you’re sleeping 7 or 8 hours.

Wake up at a certain time everyday, but don’t have a set bedtime. Your body will let you know when it’s time to go to sleep. Just head to bed when you’re tired. Eventually your body will reset its Circadian Rhythm and you’ll have a more normal sleep cycle, with periods of REM and non-REM sleep.

G’nite!

aw thanks i'll past the edited version of what i have since your being nice for some odd reason! :-)
Issue was she gave me no notice so I had no idea I had an F in the class

So it was a fun surprise being at home then a week later glancing over my grades and seeing a nice big F. She then proceeded to dodge my emails for the past two months before finally answering yesterday.

All my grades for the essays (main component of the class) were fine, if a little low considering it was a 100 level class. So I was a little shocked to say the least.

Haha

Nice cover.

The thing is apparently according to her syllabus I deserve 11 absences, even though most of them I am assuming are either excused absences or just tardies. So I’m not sure if a department head would be up to changing my grade. I’m talking to my advisor about it atm.

Either way it’s pretty dumb that I am paying for a class doing all the work and then getting failed for excused absences and being late to a 9am class, god forbid.

Memphis really shouldn’t treat new free agent signings like it’s High School picture day.

Good evening folks...

before i go into junk mode, i want to be on record of saying Durant’s career will match Tracy McGrady. Not being a homer here at all because I do think GO will struggle until his 3rd year of playing…Durant is one of the few non-PGs taking advantage of the new rules on how perimeter defense is played…And he’s built to spill…one knee knocker and it’s jenga…i don’t like typing this because once it’s written, it comes true:(

And both Lopez sucks…if anyone of them become an all-star, they will be the first named Lopez to do it…which means, 1/10000000…sometimes people do win the lottery but usually, i don’t root for those people.

anyways, over 50 people will show up for BEdge ball…so not sure how we will do this but if any ladies like to come and be ruthless captains, this is an opportune time…

besides..it’s been a while since i’ve junk and i sorely miss you all…but not as much as the dude that came back to the Bachelorette and getting dissed twice in two days.

Ok....here is the story

Tom felt like sucker punching someone….but he felt that would make it an !%#%#…Roybot mentions it would make him a Zach (referencing the infamous sucker punch of Rueben Patterson) . I then said that would make Tom a “Zach-hole” which promptly got rec’d (by a mod no less) and we then decided to that for all the curse words we aren’t allowed to say here, we would substitute the word Zach…..and it caught on!

About “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away,” Via Wikipedia:

The song, according to musician/singer Tom Robinson, is a reference to Brian Epstein, the group’s manager, who was homosexual (homosexuality was a criminal offence in Britain at the time)

I always liked the band better if this is the case, that Brian Epstein propositioned Lennon and that Lennon in return wrote him the song as a sign of sympathy. I always wondered if Kanye’s “Love Lockdown” had a similar meaning.

In all honesty, my words can’t do 1/1000th of the convincing I think your avatar does. Who would say no to L&C trampoline dunking after seeing that?

depends on the definition of race

Ghosts could sort of be considered people classified on the basis of a common history, but certainly couldn’t and wouldn’t share genetically transmitted physical characteristics.

Absolutely!

But they were not ghosts when they were living people. Clearly. And presumably they had a race or two that defined them in some such manner… in life. And maybe they shared physical traits with others of their same race.

But when they are ghosts, their race is not ghost.. at least not by the definition involving shared genetically physical traits. Any physical traits ghosts share are purely manifestations of their ectoplasmic state. I don’t see how race can have anything to do with it.

Depending on how you define race.

Who's got Insider?

What’s Hollinger saying about the Okafor-Chandler trade?

Spill the beans yo!!

Peep the sig.

by 12sharks on Jul 28, 2009 12:52 AM PDT reply actions

Usually when a trade happens, I’ll write something like “on the surface, it makes no sense” and then proceed to walk you through all the cap ramifications to show why a seemingly lopsided deal can actually make some sense.

This isn’t one of those.

I’m just as puzzled as anyone why the Bobcats would agree to trade Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler, because in terms of both basketball and cap implications the deal makes a lot more sense for New Orleans than it does for Charlotte.

The Hornets pulled off the rare feat of saving money while becoming a better team. Yes, Okafor’s contract runs three years longer, but that matters much less than the near-term implications of having a lower payroll this year and next year because of the luxury tax calculations.

He’ll save the Hornets $1.1 million in salary and another $1.1 million in luxury tax, and puts them close enough to the tax line that the Hornets could put themselves under by bribing somebody to take Antonio Daniels at the trade deadline. That will be difficult, yes, but it’s not impossible.

Ditto for next year, where the Hornets are already threatening the lowered tax threshold for next summer and the trade would give them an extra $1.2 million in wiggle room to add players. (This presumes Chandler doesn’t opt out of the final year of his contract at $12.7 million, which based on his present production would be fiscal insanity).

And, as I mentioned, Okafor is better. Both players have consistently been honorable mention getters in my All-Defense picks, but Okafor is a superior scorer. That may not be saying much — both players are somewhat limited offensively — but Okafor can score on post-ups occasionally and make short bank shots, while Chandler’s range ends at the charge circle. Over the past three years, Okafor has averaged nearly five points more per 40 minutes — that’s big.

The health disparity between the two has also been mentioned, but look closer and I’m not sure there’s any difference. Okafor has averaged 66 games per season over the course of his career, Chandler 67. Chandler has a bad toe that already nuked one trade, but Okafor has a problematic back. Okafor has played 82 games each of the past two years, but over their careers their injury histories show little separation. Age isn’t an issue either — they were born four days apart.

Nevertheless, the Hornets have to be stoked. Getting a not-quite-All-Star caliber center who will do the dirty work on D and also score a little improves their chances of hanging with the West’s upper crust, though there remains much work to be done.

As for the idea that this shows a willingness by the Hornets to spend, I’d only believe it up to a point. Yes, they could have just done a straight salary dump of Chandler to ease their way under the tax line, so in that framework their striving to keep the team competitive merits applause. But they did cut their payroll the next two years with this deal and the ones after that don’t matter nearly as much — based on present deals New Orleans goes well under the cap in 2011 even with Okafor’s money tacked on. Besides, by then they’ll be in a new arena in Las Vegas and money won’t be so tight (Kidding, people, kidding … back off with the knives).

As for Charlotte, I don’t get it. This was already a terrible offensive team, ranking 27th in the NBA in Offensive Efficiency a year ago. Chandler is a demonstrably worse offensive player than Okafor, and his one offensive skill (throwing down dunks off pick-and-rolls) doesn’t seem to mesh terribly well with the Bobcats’ personnel.

Charlotte fans will point out that they freed up some cap space for 2011; of course that space might have been more easily obtained by not signing Okafor to a six-year, $72 million deal a year ago when they were bidding against themselves.

It’s hard to believe that the Bobcats’ front office had that severe a change of heart over a player in just 12 months, especially when Okafor put up a pretty typical season by his standards. This is prime golfing season in northern Illinois so you know Michael Jordan wasn’t pushing for it, and Rod Higgins is too sensible to pull such an overnight 180.

That brings up two other plausible possibilities. The first is that this is a classic Larry Brown grass-is-greener trade. Okafor is a good player but he doesn’t exude passion for the game and Brown had grumbled about this last season. Chandler is certainly more passionate, and perhaps Brown — infamous for wanting to trade everybody on the roster — convinced management to make the swap. (And by “convinced,” I mean “whined incessantly about it until they finally agreed to do it just so he’d shut up.”)

The other possibility is that it was driven by owner Robert Johnson’s need to sell the team. In that case, clearing the $40 million owed on the final three years of Okafor’s contract removed a potential liability from his books, possibly making it easier for him to unload the team sooner. If that ends up happening, Bobcats fans might still feel like they won the trade.

Whatever the motivation, it sure as heck doesn’t make them a better basketball team. There isn’t a wide gulf separating these two players, but Okafor has been consistently more productive, particularly at the offensive end. For a team that desperately needs to find more scoring, it was an odd way to try to improve. And for the Hornets, it’s a tremendous opportunity to keep pace with the heavy hitters out West.

that's fantastic!

I remember that JD.. didn’t remember it was her first post.

Sure, g-love did it two months earlier, but the point is still very valid. Never would want to ignore the accomplishments of fanfaraway or any bedgers de espana.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
