No news just a dumb opinion (webby)

Martell Webster, the inigma that "could" be. I'm very high on Martell, personally I'm a little too high on Martell, and thought I'd reevaluate the guy in my brain, Most of the time I can't see what everyone else is seeing that they see that is wrong with Martell. As a matter a fact, I honestly don't even hear the mess of noise that is tossed his way, I'm trying hard right now as I write this to remember any single phrase that was written that invigorated the lash of my fingers to keyboard, nothing comes to mind, but I do know that it has happened. Recently I've had some short but consistant things to say about other players on our team whos name(s) are not "Brandon Roy". I've read and re-read most of them to ensure that I didn't cross the line that is always present anytime I post on this fine Blog, I didn't think they did. Anyway, My point is, I thought long and hard about my favorite player Martell Webster and thought if I was giving him the same bar that I've been setting on our other up and comming players. I found that I have not. OH my what a burst to my bubble it sort of was, how could I be doing this I thought, this is silly, I mean, am I not being a hipocrite and being just irrational about how I judged my team, and its personel? I'm curious if everyone does this? Do we all have our favorite players? or maybe I'm just strange like that ...no matter, but as I was sitting there thinking about Martell, and the rather nasty bar that I've laid onto some of our recent additions, I found that Martell is not infallable, in fact, over the past few seasons he's been down right leaky. The things I've seen in Martell that I would like to see improve are many, he was touted comming into the league as a pure shooter, career 37%, he shows little improvement from year to year, misses 10 free throws his first year, 39 his second, and a whopping 44 his third. He doesn't even average an offensive rebound a game. So far he's only been able to play in every game for a season in his second season, His career high is only 26 points against Utah, way back in January of 08. The most shots hes ever taken in any one game 20!!! Twenty I tell you! But besides alllllll that!!! there are things I'd like him to get better at or worse depending on how you'd be seeing all of this up to this point. 1. His Agression. I'd like to see more agression and alot more cutting to the basket, I'd like to see him tear down the court and do a teshaun prince move from the three point corner and down under the hoop and smashing the ball through the hoop gamely. 2. I'd like to see Martell up his 3 point percentage to a respectable 42%, mostly so I don't have to debate whether or not he is indeed a decent deep threat as every now and then I cringe reading about how his actual percentage is indicative of his usefullness, given I'm, just a weeee bit up on the kid, and I find these comments completely baseless, but alas it is his 37% to own. 3. I would like to see Martell create, and if not just defy Nate from time to time and randomly leak out for a fast break, if he even know's what one looks like. I find it hard to believe what I'm seeing most nights becuase of our youthful age, and our rotation that we play... I love the clash of cleches in youth vs. our speed of play harnessed with control. The play of Martell was never creative in itself, shoot its down right boring to see him come down the court and camp. in. the. corner. for. the. entire. posession. and. never. touch. the. ball. his. man. 3. paces. away. But that was two years ago. Martell will be joining almost a new but same team. Everyone on the team but Martell has had a chance to build the wonderful chemistry that we've seen. Will Martell fit back in I ask? Will we see any of Martell? Batum Rudy and Roy oh my. Travis, an Andre, and a Cunningham taboot. Is Martell going to return? or? Is his career taking a hiatus and he's never commin back. ;) I'm starting to wonder about Martell. And how much of my love he should deserve, or if I should start rationing it out amongst some other members of our team. What say you. (that's retorical or there'd be a poll ;)

enigma.

I’m banking on Martell having a big season, assuming he can play at all.

I like Martell

but I think he came into the league after dominating high school kids with an"I am the next coming of MJ tude",I think he has made progress as far as geting his mind right about that. He is a bright young man and knows that he needs to come into camp in shape[not worried about that] and is going to have to earn his minutes, Andre can make him look good if he listens up and I hope he does

He hasn't played in a long time

When last he did play, he was not very impressive. He is an unproven player with lots of talent and skill. But talent and skill alone do not make him an NBA player. Plus he’s not healthy yet. Terrible draft pick for how high they took him. Tantalizing, but my guess is he’ll be a role player.

New's?

Big D from Blog-A-Bull - "Pritchard is such a genius that teams just give him players for free."

Greg Oden - The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 400 rebounds, and 65 blocks in under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
