Dallas signs Drew Gooden to a one-year, $4.5 million deal, with incentives that can total it over $5 million.
I don't like this one bit for the Mavericks, as Drew Gooden isn't a defensive-minded center that the team needs to platoon with Erick Dampier at the pivot.
I feel bad for Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson, who lost out on their first target in Marcin Gortat and had to settle with the less than impressive Gooden.

They had to do something to replace Bass.
But I agree, it’s a poorly placed band-aid at best.

Oy. No defense…many Bulls fans called him Rew Gooen. That frontline doesn’t exactly scare me at this point.

Dirk, Gooden, Dampier, Hollins
WEAK! but not nearly as soft as the Raptors frontcourt players (Hedo, Bargnani, Bosh)

Didn't Dallas sweep the Blazers?
Even with a week front court the only other team I didn’t want the Blazers to face in the Playoffs was Dallas, other than Houston.

Actually,
it was 3.5 million for Gooden and 1 million for team rights to his hairstyle.

Dirk is going to get some heavy C time
Between Damp and Hollins as the only C’s and Marion/Howard, that team is going to be bizarre, especially since Slick Rick is their coach.

Mavs have a gaping hole at center.
they are a 4 or 5 seed in the west. thats it.

eek
Not the best signing, but like the Miller deal it’s a short-term experiment. There’s not really anybody else in the FA market (Odom is going to LA or Miami) so blowing the MLE isn’t a big loss. Damn you Otis!
I still like the idea of Blazers and Mavs doing a trade mid-season. Portland could use Josh Howard and Dallas could use Przybilla (assuming Oden isn’t a foul machine and Howard is healthy). I’m a bit biased since I’m a Dallas transplant and still love Dirk + co. Honestly, if Webster comes back healthy I don’t see how Howard for Joel+Webster wouldn’t help both teams improve on the court…

even if Oden is not a foul machine, he's not playing 48
