Who has the weirdest shot in the NBA?

Weird, Ugly, Horrid, Who has the weirdest looking shot in the NBA?

Star-divide

As I was looking in this morning on new Trailblazer news, I found nothing but the same old stuff I've been reading about since the offseason started. So I wanted to write about something that has nothing to do with the Blazers at all. Since there is nothing really interesting going on in Blazerville.

My question to you Blazermaniacs is who has the weirdest looking shot in the NBA? The kind of shot that makes you think how in the heck did that go in or WOW that was ugly. I am not talking about the bigs that can barely hit rim from three feet out, but the actual shooters who rack up a good share of points for their squad.

I would have to say it is a toss up between Shawn Marion and Kevin Martin.

Marion back in the day used to light it up, but his shot always made me feel as though I had just taken a shot of terrible tequila and Kevin Martin cocks back like he is doing some kind of funky dance routine to his favorite jimmy jam.

Well those are my two, now what do you say?

Gotta go with Marion

His shot looks like a camera trick, and I gag involuntarily when I see it.

Yeah thats true!

Besides being ugly his shot is ugly as well

Watch Joakim Noah shoot free throws sometime.

In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Today I'd say Marion

But some of the guys from the ’90s were really bad, and some of the recent retirees or soon to be retirees.

Bill Cartwright is probably the worst of all-time. Tim Hardaway. Antoine Walker. Chris Dudley. Ben Wallace.

Chris Dudley for three!

Old school

Bill Laimbeer and Clyde Drexler’s 3 point shot

"I like whatever metric makes a Blazer look better." jonestr

Reporter: Four assists tonight too, Travis. You're starting to shed that idea that you're just a shooter. You're starting to pass the ball more too...
Travis: (Deadpans) Aw, I just got tired..

Anybody remember Adrian Branch?

Very funky, and not a good funky, left-handed jumper.

You bet. I'll bet. Can you say, "caricature"?

Followup question:

Who has the higest ratio of shooting ability to poor form (looks like crap but still makes them)?

Keep in mind that everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazers Edge.

Much better question

There are a lot of terrible looking brick layers. But Marion somehow gets that ugly shot to go down. I can’t think of another decent scorer with a worse looking shot.

by trailblazeraddict on Jul 24, 2009 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions

If we're talking old-school...

Chris Dudley had a “hitch” you could hook your 5th wheel up to

and I’ve always wondered how Michael Redd could shoot it so well putting that ball ’way back behind his head

When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

Outlaw

His shots look uglier than mutated gerbils.

I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

by haildablazer on Jul 24, 2009 12:45 PM PDT reply actions

I would say John Crotty

I remember when he used to play for the Blazers and it looked like he was pushing the ball down towards the court but would some how make a three pointer. He defied the laws of physics.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
