Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Apparently it takes genius bordering on insanity to see Greg's potential at this point - the premise of this article is that the author is the John Nash (the subject of A Beautiful Mind) of the NBA.

The money quote, as excerpted by TrueHoop:

"Greg Oden is a beast of a man, ready to unleash hell on the rest of the NBA. He’s a rebounding vacuum. He’s a shot-blocking, missile defense system that the Pentagon would be envious of. He has an Ike and Tina kind of relationship with the rim on offense. He’s a decent enough free throw shooter and he moves as smartly without the ball as any young center in the NBA. Greg Oden is not only a good player; he’s a sure-fire perennial All-Star who will help his team win a couple of titles. He’s a Defensive Player of the Year a couple times over."

Much like last year

I’ll believe it when I see it.

You're like one of the extras from a Beautiful Mind

The premise of the article is that the author saw it last year – even though nobody else did.

Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

Interesting

Considering I watched 88 games last year and I saw boneheaded turnovers, ridiculous travels where Greg miraculously forgot to dribble, flat off-balance awkward looking hook shots, consistently late on help defense, and lack of lateral quickness resulting in heavy foul proneness.

I mean, we saw bursts of excellence but any player can show flashes. Until he can do it consistently, Oden will never live up to this guy’s expectations.

PER Don't Lie

If Oden can stay healthy, and if he can stay in the game, playing D and not fouling, then he is already a monster. Take his avg when he was 70% last year, and expand it to 30 MPG and you have a borderline NBA All-Star. What if that young man brings 100%.

God, Greg looked good in those video clips. Mons-Terrr!!!

Greg at the USA mini-camp is the most exciting news that I COULD have gotten this off-season. (Now if we sign Miller and get him the ball on the low block, he can be putting fouls all over opposing front lines.)

The man is plain scary. He gets tangled with Mt Mutumbo, and there there goes the mountain. He defends Yao — this is Yao’s opinion, not some random’s — better than anyone. Then a few games, Yao blows up potentially permanently. Tragic, but just sayin’.

Physics my friend:

Momentum = Mass x Speed

and

Force = Mass x Acceleration

and

You can’t beat the force!

Greg Oden done come back more powerful than you can realize. He’s ready to go all Odi-Wan on all y’all.

W00t! Boo-to-the-Yah! WOOOOOO!

Greg doesn't need the force

john nash the GM sucked too.

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
