Would you put the Clippers, Bulls, or Hawks ahead of the Blazers?

This guy did.

If you're not a Blazer fan

It kind of makes sense. We have done nothing this offseason, while the Clips got Blake Griffin and the Hawks are a strong up and coming team in a weak conference, and can easily get home court again. Everyone knows the Clips suck and will suck this season too but this is an “on-paper” poll, obviously.

Our biggest obstacles last year were the Staples Center and the Houston Rockets. I don’t think either will bother us so much anymore. No Lamar Odom (please God) and no Yao Ming. Instead we have Crazy Ron and (insert scrub Houston center here). Big whoop.

Also, LOL @ Spurs #1.

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx

This guy is off his rocker.

The Clippers may look good on paper, but they aint better than the Blazers. And I also completely disagree with the Hawks being up so high. Jamal Crawford doesn’t play defense.

Plus the Spurs shouldn’t be at the very top. The Lakers, Magic, Cavaliers and Celtics are all better than them.

This guy made me lol
be carefull how you throw around that "top 10 talent" label, cause Rose and Brandon Roy are not even close (here are some players you may have heard of that are a bit better: Garnett, Duncan, Kobe, Bron, Wade, Bosh, D.Williams, CP3, Yao, D.Howard

Brandon Roy isn’t even close to top 10 talent? You could easily make a case he is better than Deron Williams.

he *is* better than Williams

He’s also better than Bosh.

We got another guy who thinks he can make a top 10 too
The top ten players in the NBA go like this (yes, in this order): Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Durant, Rose, Paul, Howard, Amar’e, Melo, Roy.

Durant and Rose ahead of CHRIS PAUL?? Are you kidding me?

by The Roybot on Jul 21, 2009 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Neither Durant nor Rose belong over Roy either.

Roys rookie season > Rose’s rookie season in terms of individual play.

Where is it that people are getting the idea that Rose is already some kind of super PG? He’s got quite a bit of ways to go to catch Roy as a player.

Roy vs Melo or Amare are debatable. Especially Melo. For all the praise he gets for scoring he’s never done it as efficient as Roy did this last year.

I’m really tired of people deciding how good or bad the Blazers are without knowing anything about them.

by Bskey on Jul 21, 2009 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

To add on.

Out of THAT list, Roy is no lower than 6th.

by Bskey on Jul 21, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno... as much as I love Roy and hate Melo...

it was Melo in the western conference finals, physically Melo is a beast. But I do probably give Roy the edge.

by Escrote on Jul 21, 2009 3:47 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Melo had an outstanding playoffs, nearly as good as Roy's

In the regular season, there was no comparison.

by jksnake99 on Jul 21, 2009 3:49 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Indeed.

I put Melo and Amare as debatable due only to past seasons and that they were both injured this year. Based off of last year Roy is head and shoulders above them both.

And yes it’s important to remember Roy had a very impressive playoff debut so it’s not like he was a slouch in the post season. The rest of his team came up short though. Melo’s playoffs are not enough to put him above Roy.

Although I say it can be debated I feel that Roy is the better player with or without homer influence.

that is just terrible. terrible. terrible. terrible.

by ireallylikejerrydbayless on Jul 21, 2009 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

no, I would no thave any of those 3 teams ahead of the Blazers

1) Lakers
2) Cavaliers
3) Magic
4) Celtics
5) Spurs
6) Blazers
7) Nuggets
8) Mavericks
9) Jazz
10) Hornets

If the Heat get Odom and/or Boozer, they’ll find their way into my top 10.

by jksnake99 on Jul 21, 2009 3:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

title should obviously read:

“no, I would not have any of those 3 teams ahead of the Blazers”

I agree this is a very good list

by The Roybot on Jul 21, 2009 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll give it a wack

1.) Boston (I see big things if healthy, Rondo, Allen, Pierce, KG, Sheed…. yikes)
2.) LA (I am assuming Odom comes back, move to No. 4 if not)
3.) Cleveland (Good but I think they need a true SG, or should play a quick SF at the 2 spot)
4.) Spurs (If Timmys knee is up to it)
5.) Magic (everyone loves them but it it will be way different without Lewis playing the 4 and no point-forward, maybe I will eat my words on this)
6.) Blazers (maybe a little homer, maybe not)
7.) Nuggs (solid team)
8.) Mavs
9.) Jazz
10.) Heat (Wade)

by Escrote on Jul 21, 2009 3:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the Magic will be better than Cleveland next year

With Hedo and Courtney Lee gone and VC there I see a starting lineup of
PG – Jameer Nelson
SG – Vince Carter
SF – Rashard Lewis
PF – Brandon Bass
C – Dwight Howard

by The Roybot on Jul 21, 2009 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know that is what everyone is saying... maybe I am on to something, or maybe I am just trying too hard to be different but here is my case:

With Bass you have a different dynamic, instead of Howard surrounded by 4 shooters he only has 3. Orlando rode to the finals last year on the 3 ball. Jameer and Alston are great points but also played well off the ball. Lee played well and now he is out of the mix. I know Carter can distribute and still ball but Turk really ran that offense. I am just saying that when a team loses their leading point the potential is there to see a decline. Anyway 5th is still good and it is too early to tell if I am right or wrong. So we will have to wait and see.

by Escrote on Jul 21, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Consensus seems to be

That Pietrus will start leaving Lewis in the PF role.

I would favour that over Bass starting to keep last year’s dynamic somewhat intact

by MadBlaze on Jul 21, 2009 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah, Matt Barnes should play behind Mickael Pietrus at the 3.

C: Dwight Howard (38 m.p.g.)
PF: Rashard Lewis (38 m.p.g.)
SF: Mickael Pietrus (20 m.p.g.)
SG: Vince Carter (38 m.p.g.)
PG: Jameer Nelson (36 m.p.g.)

C: Marcin Gortat (10 m.p.g.)
PF: Brandon Bass (18 m.p.g.)
SF: Matt Barnes (20 m.p.g.)
SG: J.J. Redick (10 m.p.g.)
PG: Anthony Johnson (12 m.p.g.)

Stupid people have stupid ideas.

I guess Power Rankings, maybe?

As in these teams have done the best this summer. In terms of actually winning this list is a screenful of craziness.

THE CLIPPERS??? Oh yea Blake as a Rookie will be so uncontainable that he can lift them all by himself out of the depths of the NBA. Yea… uh.. that’s not happening.

And the Spurs number one?? Can we just point out once and for all that TIM DUNCAN WASN’t HURT?? HE’S OLD! THAT’S NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN HEAL FROM! I mean I totally agree that Jefferson was a great pick-up for them, but its a classic Red Queen ‘Running as fast as you can to stay in one place’ technique.

And Dallas has moved up after losing Bass? Yea makes total sense, good reporting there, Shawn Marion while a good pick-up does not make up for the fact that Nowitski is going to have to play C at some point with the current line-up (and what happens if Dampier gets injured?).

My list:
1) Orlando
2) Lakers
3) Cavs
4) Nuggets
5) Spurs
6) Blazers
7) Jazz (now they actually had injury issues)
8) Wizards (Healthy they will be a force)
9) Mavs
10) Bulls

I stopped reading

when he put the Clippers as “a contender for the Western Conference crown”. Even though the clippers are talented, nothing fits right together. Their best player, Baron, and their coach hate each other, and that right there says “lotto team”.

17 comments to his ridiculous power rankings, let's see how many people say dumb stuff.

1. “The Bulls lost their best player and now they are better?”
BUZZZ. Gordon was not their best player.

“2. If they can resign Wafer they will be a good team.”
BUZZ. Rockets will not be good and Wafer being resigned doesn’t do crap.

“3. The top 10 list that has Yao on it. (ignoring the other idiocies.) Does this guy know that this is a power ranking for NEXT year and that Yao is going to be worthless?”

*4. The OP defends himself with these gems: “I am currently unemployed.” Odd considering he lists about 9 sites he writes for. Guess he forgot to mention no one pays him. “Durant, Rose, Paul.” Umm… yeah Rose is NOT better than Paul. Someday maybe? Now… lol. Boozer over Bosh is also LOL. There is more, but moving on.

5. Kings should be 18 sir? No way…

Not as bad as I expected, although a few of those 17 say nothing.

I know Kevin Durant puts up good stats

and he will probably be a very good/great/spectacular player one day, but can you really be considered a top 10 player in the league before you have ever played a playoff game, let alone had a winning season?

by SalemORguy on Jul 21, 2009 4:24 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Durant has really done nothing that improves his team.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s as good of a number 1 scoring option as there is, but he lacks so much else. He has not shown he can be a leader, I bet Harden would make 10 times the team captain Durant is. His defense is down right embarrassing for a player everybody claims is top 10 material. It’s embarrassing period. He doesn’t make his team mates better, it’s arguable that he takes away from them. The Thunder in general definitely did not play worse, possibly even played better, in stretches without him.

Durant is a guy who would be great for any team, and be an awesome number 1 scoring option. But much in the same way as Amare and to an extent Melo he’s not suited to lead a team.

Durant can and will win scoring titles, but to me it takes a lot more than that to be considered better than elite well rounded players. Guys who can score with the best of them but also do so much more. Whether opposing fans or major media wants to admit it or not Roy is in that elite well rounded category and so many of these players that they like to claim are better than him are barely sniffing him downwind.

by Bskey on Jul 21, 2009 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's a pretty good description.

Kevin Durant=Amare, without the shot-blocking ability.

WOW!!!!!!!!

who is this guy???? We dont have to add anything to be top 6!!! He must not know about the Almighty Blazers!!!

by blaze1 on Jul 21, 2009 5:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Why put Utah at 12 or higher?

Without Boozer they will NOT be the team they were in the past. Milsap is not nearly the player Boozer is. Not saying Milsap’s bad but Boozer is top flight, better than Milsap any day, and the Jazz are gonna badly miss his play. Millsap has proved only that he was able to fill in for Boozer; that’s a lot different than putting up big numbers year after yer like Boozer. Utah’s in a bit of disarray and last season’s finish is closer to their real state. New Orleans has a better argument to be ranked high with CP3 running the show.

This guy is very unintelligent

But not because of where he put the Blazers. There is so much more that is wrong with his list.

My personal list (feel free to rip it apart)
1. L*****s
2. Celtics
3. Cavaliers
4. Magic
5. Spurs
6. Nuggets
7. Blazers
8. Mavericks
9. Bulls
10. Hawks
11. Hornets
12. Jazz
13. Raptors
14. 76’ers
15. Heat
16. Suns
17. Wizards
18. Rockets (Took the lakers to 7 w/out Yao)
19. “Thunder”
20. Bucks
21. Timberwolves
22. Clippers (Griffin moves them from #29)
23. Pistons
24. Bobcats
25. Pacers
26. Nets
27. Grizzlies
28. Warriors
29. Knickerbockers
30. Kings

Dictated, not read. The management.

Rockets will be interesting this year

Not a real threat, but they could tank or still manager 35 wins.

You could argue that Dallas

should be ahead of us; but we gotta allow for a little boosterism. Go Blazers!
