Starter for the Western Conference All Star game at Center is...

With Yao out and Shaq in the East the center position for the Western Conference All Star game is up for grabs. Outside of Boozer staying in the West who else is there? Will the NBA place Duncan or Gasol as a center in the voting? is this the year for Bynum, Nene or Jefferson to take the spot light? or is it time for Oden to start his streak of All Star appearances? With the lack of centers in the West this is a great time for Portland's centers to make some noise. Discuss :)

Wow that is a good point.

That would really cheese my drawers if the NBA decides to start calling Duncan a center… after they gave him all those NBA first teams at the PF position. I would have to say Nene is the favorite unless Oden comes out like gangbusters…. although you should never underestimate the stupidity of the All-Star voters. Plus All-Star voting is more about what the player did the prior year sometimes.

If they do slide Gasol or Duncan to Center

It will free up forward spots for Aldridge. However, I think LA can make it on his own without that next season. I think Aldridge will deserve to make the team next year over Oden unless Greg gives a superstar performance every game

Can't Yao still get voted in even if he's on the permanent IL?

And he probably would be, too

Dictated, not read. The management.

Yeah.

Technically you still can I think. And he’ll probably still have the whole country of China voting for him.

Bet he could be but there will still be an empty spot there for the all star game

That might be better for Oden.

If Yao were voted the starter, the league would appoint a replacement. If GO has a good year, I think he’d have a better chance of being voted in by the coaches than the fans.

Jefferson, that’s all

Yao is still voted the starter

and my guess is Al Jefferson gets the nod so Duncan won’t have a hissy fit

Thought of this earlier, but never got around to posting it.

Therefore you thought of a great idea!

But Gasol, Duncan or Al Jefferson could easily be put at center for the West All Stars, after all, those players do play a lot of center. However, if limited to true centers, Oden has to beat out Okur, Camby, and Nene, all of which seems possible.

We’ll see. Hopefully Oden as an All-Star will be so clear cut that they can’t help but put him on. That might take a lot of hoping this year though.

I hate saying a laker...

but bynum, when healthy, has shown potential. nene from denver(as mentioned above) could have a decent firrst half. you could also put amare at center for the all star game, since without shaq he’s probably gonna end up playing that position again.

Here are the contenders

Andris Biedrins
Marcus Camby
Andrew Bynum
Yao Ming
Marc Gasol
Tyson Chandler
Nene
Al Jefferson
Mehmet Okur
Robert Swift (just kidding, he’ll make hall of fame for tattoos)

How many will they take, 2? 3? 1? who knows, but Oden definitely just got an extra motivation for his summer work outs.

Release the beast that is Greg Oden!!!!!

I am now a fan of HEDOnism

My guess is

Jefferson starts, but Gasol can easily start also, then if a third center is picked I’d say Nene, the biggest question is LMA chances

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
