Shooooooooooot

This sucks!!!!

Now that sucks for us

Kobe won’t have to guard Roy anymore……at least not until after he blows by Artest.

This is great news!!!

Artest doesn’t fit the triangle at all.

- Defensive skills have deteriorated.
- Ball stopper and chucker
- Can’t play in transition

These are the complete opposite skills that Ariza brings. This is awesome.

At first this seems like terrible news, but I have to agree with you.

Personally, I would rather have Artest guarding Brandon than Ariza. Ariza always did a solid job.

eh but the blazers will get bullied even more now.

actually, the lakers are one of the teams in the nba

that don’t get away with bullying us. they beat us pretty good, for sure, but they’re players don’t really play that dirty boston celtics grab/slap/elbow defense.

The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

I hope so.

Or that its not something he would be good at?

That crazy SOB will make LA more interesting

to say the least. I half expect him to go crazy once he gets paid. Having said that, I would have liked the good RonRon here, now I just hope for the bad RonRon there.

It makes sense for the Rockets too... if they can get Ariza

He is younger and the Rockets might be able to pull off a little mini-rebuild. Don’t they have McGrady coming off the cap for the big summer of 2010?

by Escrote on Jul 2, 2009 4:18 PM PDT reply actions

Without Yao

Defenses are going to suffocate the perimeter. Not a favorable situation for a guy whose value is largely dependent on hitting open 3s. I don’t think it makes sense for the Rockets or Ariza.

I agree.

Artest is twice the offensive threat and at least equal with Ariza defensivly. This probably gives the Lakers a better chance of repeating.

This is slowly turning into my least favorite off season ever. I remain cautiously optimistic.

I hate the L*kers

this is like when they got Malone and Payton for next to nothing

Brandon Roy, 'nuff said.

by johnv59 on Jul 2, 2009 4:29 PM PDT reply actions

not that worried. Artest has lost a step and will take shots away from those that deserve them.

by Cablinasian on Jul 2, 2009 4:37 PM PDT reply actions

The Triangle will make good use of Artest's passing skills

and with Kobe and Gasol he will not feel any pressure to try and take over games. He’s never really been in a situation like that, and I’m hopeful he’ll not only adjust but thrive. He’s going to play a prominent role by playing the 3 and taking over for Kobe at the 2. And he should be more than satisfied with a steady diet of wide-open 3s.

Over his career he's avg'd about 4 a game.

Only next season he’ll be playing with Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant.

it really depends

on which Artest shows up that game

Agreed.

Agreed.

I remember watching Crazy Pills play here in Indiana. I could almost bet on him destroying any fabric of “team” the L*kers may have. He hasn’t grown up … no matter what he or anyone else says. He will always have the Tyson/Circus Gene lurking somewhere in that skull. Every interview, every time he dribbled, every horrible shot he flung up … I cringed. He will be in the spotlight now … so who wants to put $20 on him taking advantage of it? They slipped by not keeping Ariza. Take it to the bank.

by PTB Tested on Jul 3, 2009 4:45 AM PDT up reply actions

So it looks like the Lakers aren’t looking to get Odom and Ariza back?

You have my axe!

by you have my axe on Jul 2, 2009 5:13 PM PDT reply actions

not sure where this leaves Odom

I hope that he really, really, really, likes the beach as he will have to take a severe discount now. I am guessing less than MLE depending on what the Lakers are using to get Artest.

but I LOVED it when he played against the L*kers.

omg if we sign Ariza

then Artest would guard Brandon and Ariza on Kobe

man that would be interesting

Yeah, a veteran like Grant Hill or Jason Kidd might've been a better fit at the 3 on offense for the Los ...

Angeles Lakers. With Hill, he’d fit right in playing the 3 on both sides of the ball. Kidd, however, would play the 3 on offense and guard the 2 on defense — which’d work fine alongside Kobe Bryant — although that may be a stark adjustment for someone who’s so late in their career.

http://www.cybersportsusa.com/hooptactics/triangle.asp

While I ultimately won’t say Ron Artest is a poor fit with the Lakers — which is unlike the Portland situation with Hedo Turkoglu, who’s an overall terrible fit up here in my opinion — it seems to be an iffy proposition.

by AK1984 on Jul 2, 2009 6:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Again many Blazer fans refused signing Artest

This will haunt the Blazers for 3 years.

I have been wanting Odom and Artest this off season. They are both out there, but not “Jail” players anymore. It would have hurt all of our foes in the right ways and helped us in the right way— us and helped us where we were hurt.

The Lakers had the balls to get Ron Ron…the rest will be history. Take away tough from the Rockets and give it to us, take away the length of the Lakers and give it to us.

Ahh welp, maybe Blazer fans will learn from this.

"Both Anthony Carter and Jameer Nelson were downright jubilant in the Magic locker room postgame. Carter said to no one in particular, "Brandon Roy, that man is unstoppable, it's like he's playing NBA Live" and Nelson was cracking on his teammates for not being able to guard Brandon. The kinds of jokes you can make when you win."

Well last time i checked ....

The portland trail blazers arent a democracy . Otherwise Hedo Turkoglus Plane would have gone down today.
