Summer League Open Thread Blazers vs. D-League Select, Game 5
The Blazers final Summer League game of 2009 against the D-League Select team tips tonight at 7PM Pacific. The game will not be televised by Comcast but can be heard on 95.5 The Game or watched streaming online. I'll be flying home during the game so there will not be a game recap. Apologies.
Waiting for the game to tip? Check out yesterday's game recap and this brief chat with Blazers Assistant Coach Monty Williams.

Well my friend canceled basketball on me...
so I might as well watch basketball.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Inferno can shoot the ball.
He’d make a hell of a Laker, his game doesn’t match what PDX does with the SF… He’d be a murderer in the triangle though…

Dante Cunningham has neither the ball-handling nor the passing prowess to be too effective in the ...
triangle offense. As much flack as Luke Walton receives from some folks, he’s not an altogether bad fit at the backup small forward position in that system.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
Despite being slightly overpaid, Luke Walton is still a useful role player for Phil Jackson's club.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
What's your view of Michael Dunleavy?
Jeff Foster?
Andrew Bogut?
I’ve got a theory that I am working on…

Oh, and apropos of advanced statistical metrics, I suggest you check out this link.
See, there’s a tangible reason that Luke Walton fits within the triangle offense better than many fellow small forwards.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
Also, Andrew Bogut is an Aussie.
From my assumption, that might be a problem.

6 turnovers a game is flat out pathetic...
Especially when its not even legit nba competition. Get over him. Rex will get better, but right now he sucks at anything besides lowering his head and attacking the hoop. Luckily for him, thats a bankable nba skill and he has it in spades…
The Bedger formally known as ????????
i don't agree
Steve Nash, Terry Porter, Drexler, Dwayne Wade, are a few elite guards that have a lot of turnovers, some seasons more than others, it’s not unheard of.
Many people have mentioned bayless as analogous to chauncey billups, in size and ablility, who also took seasons to grow into the player he is now, not unheard of the expect vast improvement. Bayless was effective last season when nate used him situationally (like in the Nets game, a few others). You have to give 20 year olds a chance.

So did Porter. Wade and Drexler aren’t even point guards. Even still I doubt any of them ever averaged anywhere near 6 TO’s per game. Not even the much maligned Sergio Rodriguez can compete with that total…

i never said PGs
play makers handle the ball a lot. sometimes they turn it over. it’s summer league. it’s summer league. did i mention it’s summer league?

That would make sense...
if only Bayless was a playmaker. I think the term gunner fits him much better. I also don’t give much credence to summer league, but over 6topg? Really? Against mostly non nba competition? Than he has the gall to blame his teammates for his turnovers. Sorry, but Bayless is just rubbing me the wrong way. Feel free to agree to disagree…

Why are we not obsessed to the points-to-misses ratio? (Which determines outcomes of games far more than A:TO)

proof positive that Jerryd sucks at playing point guard...
If you want a 6’1 shooting guard, than you should love Bayless…

by no means am I saying Pooh is a better player than Bayless, that would be absurd
but Pooh was passing the ball to those same teammates who always drop the ball. Bayless needs to shut up and play, no more blaming teammates for your mistakes.
I would think the difference is the speed and force behind the passes is making some difference in drop rate.

Jerryd Bayless : Point Guard :: Jake Locker : Quarterback.
They both lack the deft touch to adequately play their respective positions.

we’ll get those $%^& D-leaguers next year! They’re worse than the L*kers!

Isn’t the only reason they played that Utah didn’t?

they were the irregulars
the misfits that couldn’t find a home on any NBA summer league roster
the lowest of the low
and they beat the Blazers…but next year THEY WILL PAY!!!

Meanwhile, over on Comcast
the ’92 Blazers are staging a furious rally in Phoenix, down by 5 with 2 minutes to go
I think they win this one…just guessing

Uncle Cliffy, before he was Uncle Cliffy
hits a baseline jumper, Suns by 1..and the Blazers get another stop…then KJ steals the ball and dunks and the crowd goes wild
if this is that double-overtime game I am not doing commentary all night

Phoenix is up by 3 with 38.6 seconds to go
But Porter drives the baseline and is fouled while banking in the layup!
Those Suns fans are feeling mighty nervous
Tie game, KJ drives around Drexler and turns the ball over!
Porter misses long 2 (toes on the line) ball goes out of bounds…to Phoenix…referee Jess Kersey is gesticulating wildly that the rebound passed over the backboard…timeout on the floor
Majerle is tied up and the game goes to overtime…if you want to know how it all turns out you’ll just have to tune in to channel 37…assuming you have Comcast

Without you out there, we're nowhere here
Thanks for the entertainment.
I have had a good time following the games with true Blazer fans. If Jeff ( my nephew ) makes the team I will be back to follow during the regular season. Have a great summer.
yeah
Tell Jeff we love his game and quirkiness. Ask him what his preferred nickname is.
seem like a great kid
thanks for coming by. And since we’re losing our best Blazer Mole (Shav’s chiropractor), we’ll need you for inside scoops. Don’t worry, we’re very discreet.
And Ben will need shoe photos. A LOT of them. Its kind of creepy

I hear Jeff has a degree in Econ so I guess
No one had to explain to him that getting drafted where he did is not a bad thing.I was high on him before the draft and like him even more now, another Rookie suprise like Nic is not out of the question.

Do they not understand sitting Bayless out didn't help him last year. He better have been injured.
Stop trying to save our players. If they get hurt they probably won’t survive the NBA.
