the memphis idea
this is just an idea but maybe it could work
a trade with memphis could do so many things.
heres the trade idea memphis would send mike conley for outlaw and bayless
maybe to much to send but i do not think bayless will work out for this team plus theres no room for outlaw so its not much in my mind
the real deal is in this trade would be freeing up 2 mill in cap space to go after lamar odom or a biger lopsided trade at the deadline (g. wallace) any body
so whats we think of this one ?

There was a deal in place, according to Jon Givony
The Griz would send a draft choice to Outlaw, if Utah hadn’t matched Millsap. Givony’s tweet to Ben yesterday indicated that Memphis wasn’t happy that the deal fell through
not sure of the nature of the draft choice, 1st round unprotected seems to good to be true
but Conley isn’t going anywhere, not following Junior’s great 2nd half after Hollins took over
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

I actually think he will
I heard that Memphis plans to move Mayo to the PG spot so he can handle the ball more. I don’t have a source at the moment, so he may be available.
My avatar is 3 years into the future for sure...

In a Heartbeat
I agree 100%, but you left one thing out a deal with Memphis might sweep that letter about Darius under the rug so other GM’s forget about it. Conley would be the perfect PG for the Blazers.

of course portland would do that trade
but not even memphis is that stupid. supposedly the only thing memphis will offer for outlaw is a draft pick. conley was available for outlaw last offseason but y’know can’t give up on young talent.

what if they got Iverson?
if Iverson ends up in Memphis, like he has suggested, would they trade Conley for Outlaw&Bayless? is there a PF we could get back from them in that deal who could play behind LMA? i love that scenario!!!

if they were willing to make that trade
they’d have made it already. the opportunity to acquire conley seems to have passed last offseason unfortunately.

I don't buy it
He will be available mid season once Iverson & ZBo are destroying the locker room.
Patience :)

Why do you want to make us weaker?
in the long run waiting is best

What is w/ all the Conley love?
The dude barely played until the 2nd half of this past season on the MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES! I do not think he is the answer to our PG woes as his biggest weaknesses are also our biggest weaknesses in reliable 3pt shooting from our PG and ability to defend on the perimeter. I actually like Brandon Jennings better who is a very similar player but with a brighter future IMO. Conley is a better defender than Blake but that is not saying much. Blake is definitely a more proven 3 pt shooter and understands his role on the team whereas Conley has proven to be inconsistent (probably due to his lack of consistent minutes in Mem.). If we are to trade for Conley I think we need to get Rudy Gay in the deal as well. My proposed deal would be Conley, Gay and Marko Jaric’s horrendous contract (incentive for Memphis to take his salary off their books) in exchange for Jerryd Bayless, Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster, rights to Patty Mills, Joel Freeland & Petteri Koponen & 2010 1st rd pick or Victor Claver. We exchange rotation players that aren’t part of our core (i.e. Roy, Aldridge, Oden) and gain 2 young starters that have a lot of upside. Conley can start at the point and Gay can play SF and backup PF with Batum backing him up at SF and Blake can back Conley up for 15-20 minutes. Rotation: PG- Conley (25 min.), Blake (15 min.), Roy (35 min.) Fernandez (25 min.) SF- Gay (33 min.) Batum (22 min.) PF- Aldridge (35 min.), Pendergraph C- Oden (30 min.) Przybilla (20 min.). Memphis is pretty much nowhere near contending and have been set on cutting costs so this move makes financial sense for them and they don’t have to extend Gay next season. Also, I think they could target Allen Iverson this summer through free agency as I believe he would be a good fit there. I believe the future of the Grizzlies lies in Mayo’s and Gasol’s hands and if the right deal came along they would move Conley & Gay. The only problem with this trade is that this deal would hurt us financially as we’d have to resign Roy, Aldridge, & Gay to max or near max deals in the same offseason with Oden & Conley needing deals the following season. Therefore, I really don’t like the whole Conley trade idea.

Conley shot 50% from behind the arc in a selected 12 shot sample.

I like Conley and it still seems like an insane trade.
Bayless is a better fit. Bayless can break down the defense from the PG position. So can Conley but Bayless can do it with quickness and power. With Roy, Rudy, Oden, Aldridge, and Outlaw sometimes you just need a guy who can put his head down and draw a foul. Bayless can do that better than Conley, Blake, and Heinrich. He also seems to have more potential as a shooter so the only criticism is his playmaking but I dont think he needs to be a great playmaker for two reasons. He has the ability to demand help which creates the easy pass. He is surrounded by talent so the defense may force him to score like they did Sergio and I see him as a better offensive threat than Conley.
Also Conley is a better fit next to Mayo.

I think we need to see Bayless try to run the point for more minutes in real NBA games before giving up on him as PG of the future.
I say lets see what he can do as a back-up until the trade deadline, and then make a decision.
