$27mil/3 years + ring(s) vs. $35mil/5 years + no ring.
I’d take the 1st option… oops too late. :D

They could be scary if they do in fact land both Odom and Boozer. Ferocious.

It's all about averages
Salary starts at the MLE, but when you have the standard increases over X number of years, the total package averages out to nine mil per year.

actually it doesn't
5/35 is about the max you can do in a MLE deal, and it averages to 7 million per year. the author was taking some pretty serious liberties in equating it to 9 million a year. The total money is comparable, because the 9 mill deal was only for 4 years instead of 5. Plus the author is banking on some equalizing becuase of Florida’s lack of income tax – but that equates to roughly 750k a year, not the 2 million difference.
How did you guys win that?

I wonder if Odom is regretting not accepting the 4/36 deal that was offered.

I don't know
It’s starting to look like things weren’t as peachy in L.A. as they’d have everyone believe. He had to have known there aren’t alot of big contracts that could’ve been offered even had teams wanted to, so it tells me he’d rather take less money to not play with the Lakers.

This really is the best of both worlds
The Lakers get weaker and someone else has to take on Lamar Odom for 5 years.
