Jazz will match - what next?
http://www.kjzz.com/fansports/teams/utah-jazz/50976482.html
Salt Lake Radio is reporting that sources within the Jazz organization are confirming that they will indeed match the contract offer the Portland Trail Blazers gave to Paul Millsap, thus surprising pretty much no one.
So, what's next Portland fans? Odom? Andre Miller? Big Baby? David Lee? Trade or hold out for in-season deal?
Put me down for standing pat (for now), and hoping for a good deal to come along once the season gets going.

All those options listed are not viable. Better wait until deadline to work a deal with our cap space.
which would be the last option
How did you guys win that?

I know! Let's wait until the trading deadline and trade RLEC!
oh wait, that was last year’s battle cry…
but this coming February KP will really, really, really mean it
I’ll tell you what option is not viable…doing nothing and watching the rest of the western conference improve their rosters, then get “boat raced” in October
July 16th is no time to ease off the accelerator. KP’s in Vegas and there are a bunch of other GMs down there for him to pester. He couldn’t really do much of anything this week while he waited for the Jazz to make up their minds. But now that they have, he has the go-ahead to execute plan “C”
Make us all proud, KP

Stand pat and save PA's money.
If Paul is really driving the penny pinching with Roy, then I think we will fill our roster with minimum contract guys and call it a day. No big FA signings. No big trades.
Big Baby
He can fill the need at the 4. Not as good a s Millap, but cheaper, it could be a good fit if Boston doens’t want to match now that they have Sheed at the backup 4/5 slot.
Team Bayless - The takeover begins in 2009

ya i think saving the money is the best move
Who knows what can happen throughout next season. Big Baby wouldn’t be a bad pick up. A lot of people hate but he can give us what we need at the back up PF spot. Its really too bad that Miller shoots so terribly because i think he would be a good fit.

Keep on keeping on
which would include facilitating a Boozer trade if it is to our advantage or some other lopsided trade/salary dunp. Be patient and get the best out of our flexability

LAMAR ODOM
More versatile than Millsap.
More athletic than Turk
Is a NBA proven vet.
If KP and Co. thought this team needs something and were planning on filling that hole through FA then why stop now. Offer Odom a deal. The worst thing that will happen is that LA will have to pay more to keep him. (Unless you are of the mind set that the worst thing that can happen in this scenario is that we actually sign Odom).
I think this team needs something, I think the organization needs a sucessful free agent signing after the TurkSap [expletive] and Odom is the next best, if not the best, FA on the market.

Any kind of jacking of talent from LA has to be good for us!
Get it done!

Lamar O dumb
Is not the player Blazers need
i don't think we offer LO
because his agent would take the offer sheet and immediately copy it to Kupchak, who will then match it. Portland would just be a leverage tool
How did you guys win that?

would you do 5/50 with another "toxic" signing bonus?
because I don’t think Kupchak or Buss would match it

doesn't matter what I would do
KP & Company won’t do that much – they weren’t willing to renounce the Euros OR put a 5th year on Millsap – they sure won’t do either for Odom, which leaves us putting up a Millsap offer, which the L*kers would do in a heartbeat

Patience!
Why be in such a rush? Something good will come out of this.
Offseason=Epic Fail?
…or maybe just freakin BORING!!!!

Nate Mcmillan loves consistancy
and Lamar odom is not consistant. Nate would go crazy with Lamar
Nate has coached LO before
during the team USA workouts in ‘07. McMillian is actually a fan of Odom, I just with I could locate that old article where Nate gushed about Lamar’s work ethic. The coach’s take was so unexpected

Eerily familiar, to other polls would be interesting to see how time and diff audience impact poll.
To this poll
(from a few days ago)
&
Current Real GM poll (you can later decide who’s smarter?) OK…maybe we don’t need to wait too long on that?

Nothing...
Just hope this is Websters break out year, and hope Batum improves, Oden stays healthy etc. Then wait until the season and trade if needed.
Momma.....der go dat man
Odom (even though LA will match)
Since Odom is worth more than the MLE (and that’s all that’s on the table for him right now), Portland will make him a better offer (my guess is 4/36), and then LA will match. I don’t think he’s the right guy for this team but it sounds like enough people within the organization do, so basically I view this as a manuever to keep LA honest.
Then we go to imbalanced trade mode from now until next February, since I don’t think there is any other free agent out there that fits the mold.

free agent out there that fits the mold.
That’s the goofy thing. As much as we think we know what “the mold” is, KP said that they aren’t hung up on positions so the next “target” could come from way out in left field
Not another SG or center…it couldn’t be!
Expect the unexpected. I could be like Henry and tell you that the Blazers “always” want to surround Roy with shooters, then KP could turn around and make an offer to MIller or Sessions, 20 minutes later
Who said following the Blazers this summer has been boring? I’m losing sleep because I’m staying up to the wee hours and hitting the BE “refresh” button
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I'm curious...
1) if people would be angry if we allowed ourselves to be played by Odom’s agent to help get Odom a better deal to stay in LA.
Or
2) if people are fine with that. That’s just how business is done in the NBA. At least we went after the best player.
My head tells me it should be #2. You have to go after the best talent! But I can’t prevent myself from feeling like we are going to get played. My pride says don’t take the bait on Odom ’cause were going to get punked in the end.
I say Sessions fits our biggest need and I’d love to give him a chance. He’s done pretty good setting up his teammates when those teammates weren’t nearly as good of a supporting cast as he would have here.
Go for just one player or shoot for two?
I think with the missing out of the most coveted FA’s, the Blazers have to seriously look at signing two lesser cost players rather than one $8-10Million dollar player like LaMar Odom or David Lee, even though both of those players are good.
How about adding both SF Marvin Williams and PG Ramon Sessions? or PG Raymond Felton and PF Glen Davis? I think that adding quality players like that who would push the other players we have would be GREAT. I know it is a lot easier to wrap our brains around a “BIG NAME” player, but there still is a chance that ALL the star potential Portland has now will turn into what it could… Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Bayless is a TON of star-power talent. Marvin Williams and Glen Davis sure would shore up those spots…

Don't add players just to add players
Teams are going to be dumping salary when they figure out it’s not working before the trade deadline, and the Blazers should be able to work a lopsided trade.
Unlike the few other teams that are below the cap, the Blazers have a long history of being willing to spend money to make their team better.
I'd offer Kleiza a 4 year $13 million
cause he can shot and be Outlaw’s replacement if KP can ever trade him with Blake.
