Fantastical Podcastical
After a one-week hiatus as Mr. Holdahl toured Europe in search of far-flung Blazers the Trailblazers.com podcast returns. Casey Holdahl of the Center Court Blog, Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game and myself are all present and accounted for. Topics include: the lingering effects of Hedo, the Millsap offer, availablilty versus advisability when it comes to moves, Bayless' future, Nate's contract, Pritchard's reputation, LaMarcus' roster spot, Roy's negotiations, the popularity of basketball (and Blazers) in Europe, and a bunch of other stuff.
You can download the podcast here or click on Casey's link to stream it.

Only first 9 min?
Every way I try I only get the first 9 min. Anyone else having this problem? I have been starving for a podcast and 9 min is barely an appetizer. My stomach is growling….

That was another good one
Everyone made a lot of sense and don’t know if there were any real conclusions.

Hey Gavin Dawson
You no longer annoy me. Way to pick your spots. Marked improvement.

I think he’s just realizing more and more that he is a little less knowledgeable than Dave. I like that he’s a passionate and impatient fan, it makes for good contrast.

He's always deferred more to Dave and Casey on the podcast than he does on his radio show.
But being a successful radio host calls for some inflammatory remarks. Think of The Bald Face Truth and all the ridiculous stuff he says.

I don't see it that way at all
Gavin’s role on the podcast is to play quarterback. That means setting his two partners up with questions as much or more than answering them himself. He picks his spots judiciously and helps us not to step all over each other. That doesn’t mean he has less to say, nor that what he says is less valuable. He’s giving it up to make the other two of us look good.

The Hedo discussion:
It wasn’t troubling to me that the Blazers were targeting Hedo. It was troubling that Hedo balked on the high-priced package, not the other way around. We can let out a sigh now, but we’re still left with the fact that the Blazers WERE willing to make that ludicrous deal.
Dave, you noted that it was reminiscent of old Blazer management style. I agree, and I want to believe as you mentioned that our brain trust had some misgivings about that signing. However, I’m not convinced. It’s like watching your friend try and fail to score some cocaine. You’re glad when it doesn’t work out, but you’re left troubled by his intent and reasoning.
If there are still people who wish we’d gotten Hedo for that price in February or March, then I’ll eat my words.

Of course there were no misgivings on the Blazers end (until after they were rejected)
I have a hard time understanding why anyone would even think that, unless they are simply viewing the potential transaction though their own opinion filter. Clearly the Blazers wanted Hedo and went out aggressively to try to get him. There was no second guessing. All accounts say they were quite unhappy it didn’t come to fruition.
On a related note, I have never really had a good handle on Casey’s NBA/Blazers mettle. Through his time at OLive and from his pieces for the team (which are mostly straight reporting), I had never gotten a feel that he really had any good concept. But I have to say that from the recent podcasts I have gained a new found respect for his thinking. He seems to be the one guy that understands the team and “gets” the process and goings-on around it. Maybe it’s from his close proximity or just him growing but he seems to have a very solid understanding and perspective.

The lingering effects of Hedo
were toxic.
