The Bulls just re-signed Lindsey Hunter...something has to be going on (Hinrich)
Call me crazy, but a team that already has their franchise PG in Derrick Rose (who played 45 MPG in the playoffs and 37 MPG in the regular season) that adds Jannero Pargo and Lindsey Hunter sure seems to have their PG rotation on lock.
Of course, we all know Captain Kirk can play off-guard, but it seems genuinely strange to push on the tax range (which they were before Hunter) with the plan of not playing Hinrich at his natural position at all.

it doesn´t mean anything
Hunter was already their 3rd string pg, and also probably teaches a few things about basketball to VDN.

Hunter was their 3rd, but where does that leave Pargo/Hinrich?
It seems insane that Chicago would push themselves to the tax line to add Pargo if they weren’t going to give him minutes and Hinrich playing 100% of his time at off-guard is more than a little strange, especially since that would cut into minutes for John Salmons and possibly James Johnson

they see Pargo filling in at off-guard
in a role similar to that of Ben Gordon.

Certainly is interesting
What I find confusing about that, is it seems like the Blazers are the only viable trade partner for Heinrich, and that seems like a big gamble. Unless, of course, the deal is already worked out and just waiting for us to spend our cap money……
hmmm

I've always thought if Hinrich comes
that it won’t be for our cap space, but after we use it.
I think KP wants more for our cap space than a marginal upgrade at PG, and he can probably get that anyway with a Blake+Travis trade if he wants it.

Yeah, something does seem to be up.
By getting these guys as backup they can make a trade to get whatever value they need and not have to expect a Steve Blake back.
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

Have the Bulls ever appeared organized/strategic in the post-Jordan era?

They seem to be doing some 2010-centric stuff
But point taken, for the most part

I don't think a trade is imminent. They also bought out Tim Thomas, who would have likely been a piece of a deal.
They are just trying to cheaply get into the 2010 season and hope for a play for a major free agent. Or just save more money. Reinsdorf wins the accounting championship every year by being the most profitable team that doesn’t pay luxury tax.
If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

Tim Thomas didn't need to be a part of it
Something like Blake/Outlaw and a pick for Hinrich works fine under the cap.
As I remember it, Thomas would have been a part if the deal was expanded to include other things.

They won't want Blake
if they’re trading Hinrich because they have too many PG’s…

I think they want expirings more than talent
Moving Hinrich makes them potential players for a guy like Wade or Bosh in 2010 (at least in their minds).

He would have been a part of it if the Bulls could have done the Boozer trade like they wanted to
Seems like that deal is dead. And one for one, the Blazers and Bulls could have traded for a long time but apparently they are still away from reaching agreement.

I still think Hinrch will be a blazer at some point next year, and this signing just make me think it more so.
My guess is that Portland is the only team that wants him and can also offer a decent package , so Chicago and KP are in a game of chicken, with Chicago trying to milk us for everything were worth.

If we get Milsap or Odom
We dont really need to worry as much about PG, because we will have an additional offensive threat. Before yall jump me about Milsap being an offensive threat, he does have the ability to attack the basket and get put backs.

neither of those dudes
do anything to shore up our perimeter defense, so I will keep worrying about a pg.

They both rebound, which
shores up the perimeter by keeping the other team without the ball.

Let's just give them Bayless and Outlaw
I know we want to keep Bayless and all that, but I’d gladly drop him if it means Hinrich. The Bulls don’t want Blake because they have plenty of pure PGs. Bayless is someone they can run as a SG as well.

Right
Like I said last week, the Blazers and the Bulls could both be scouting Jerryd this week and depending on his progress at the PG position, there could be a “decision” made re: the Hinrich deal

Sam Smith was on 99.5 with Wheels and Vance
Chicago columnist who wote “The Jordan Rules” He said the Bulls aren’t that interested in dealing Hinrich, and while Kirk would like to be a starter he’s not going to complain about it publicly. Smith also said the Blazers like their young talent KP is always trying to “lowball” the other GMs in a trade. (This reminded me of AWoj’s comments about KP calling team’s back and making the same proposals over and over.)
It’s perfectly fine that KP values his players. I remember him saying something like “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” during an interview with Canzano, back between the playoffs and the draft. He likes “his guys” and doesn’t want to part with any of them unless he gets his socks knocked off with a proposal
Bedgers have been proposing a Blake+Outlaw = HInrich deal for months, but frankly that was never gonna get it done. Even though Steve and Travis are good players they’re not going to be enough to pry Hinrich away from the Bulls. I doubt Bayless + cap-space will make Chicago blink, either. It’s going to take names like Rudy and Batum, and that’s the kind of assets that KP isn’t putting on the table, and for good reason
So don’t be surprised if the Blazers go into the season with Blake as the startiung PG and Bayless as his backup. Like Nate said tonight on the broadcast, if the team is gonna make a big improvement next year, it’s “all about Oden”

I believe that it is still possible we might get Heinrich - but this has no bearing on that happening or not . . .
Falcao touched on it. Lindsey Hunter is a player/coach – mostly a coach. They signed him to have his presence in practice, the locker room, and on the bench. They are a very young team and Lindsey Hunter is on the fast-track to becoming a coach in this league – and that is essentially what he is getting paid to be right now. I don’t believe this has any influence on whether or not we acquire Hinrich.

Will the Hinrich man-love on BE ever stop?
He’s a nice player, making a bit too much money, though at least it’s going down. He’s not the offseason homerun that many on this site want to make him out to be.
If we get him, fine. If we don’t, I’m good with that too.

I think people love him so much ( myself included ) because he seems to be the only REAL possible upgrade at the point.
All of our dream PG’s are pretty unattainable; Paul, Williams, Harris, Nelson, Parker, even Sessions may be hard to get. Hinrich seems to be a real possibility, and he would instantly help the serious problem that is our perimeter defense.
by dario argento on Jul 15, 2009 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
right, I get that
but I think many people (not saying you) around here have continually overestimated the actual amount of improvement he would provide us, and expanded the price they are willing to pay for him to include way too much, in my opinion.
I’m not opposed to getting Kirk. But it wouldn’t be a home run acquisition by any means – more like a solid double. And even that is all relevant to the price we would pay. Personally, I’d rather ride our cap space into the season and hold out hope for a triple.

Caron Butler
Quick was on 1080 and he said that it was 50/50 that if Utah matched Millsap’s offer that KP would go after Odom. But if not, the Blazers would sit tight and hope that the Wizards have a poor start to their season and then try to get Caron Butler around the trading deadline
I think that Odom is worth making a 5 year 40mil$ offer to, but it’s gonna be tough to entice him away from L*A or Miami. Holding out for Butler (etc) is a big risk, as I’ve mentioned before, because as the deadline nears you should have teams that will be ready to dump salary, but KP’s rival GMs will also know that he’s got “expiring” capspace and not much time left to use it before it’s gone. At some point “diminishing returns” will kick in, and KP will be gambling that a great deal will come along at the 11th hour, and that’s not the “positive spin” we were given after last February’s deadline when KP stood pat and let RLEC evaporate.
The other known issue is KP likes to build his roster before training camp and not “disrupt” it during the regular season, if at all possible. So it remains to be seen if he’ll break away from this tendency and wait around for 7 more months in hopes that our “patience” will finally be rewarded..

The re-signing of Lindsey Hunter doesn't impact Kirk Hinrich, but rather DeMarcus Nelson.
