The Official "Which Team Will KP Work a Deal With That Helps Both Teams Before the Trade Deadline?" Thread, Previously Known As The Official "Which Team Will KP Take Advantage of Before the Trade Deadline?" Thread
It is a likely scenario that...
• Jazz will match
• Hinrich stays in Chi Town
• All other FA's decline our offers or use us as leverage
• No one trades with us this summer
Let's assume with our luck, those things do happen.
So what team can we take advantage of before the trade deadline?
This team should:
• Have a player that plays PG or SF that can come in and start for us
• Not be expected to make the playoffs
• Be over the Cap, the further the better
• Not be in our division, probably not even in the Western Conference
Try to follow these guidelines

I think we will take advantage of Minnesota
And take either of their PG’s for like Outlaw and spare parts.

best guess
Houston. If Yao is gone and the season starts poorly, they are going to panic and they’ve got a few pieces we could steal: Battier, Brooks etc…

very interesting!
I was just thinking the same thing. To make this work though I would trade Outlaw and Bayless. This would increase our cap by 3m and reduce Houston’s significantly.

Charlotte - Gerald Wallace - 26 years old and averaged 17 & 8 last year and is on the block apparently

and this meets your requirements, although not sure if Charlotte is over the cap

They are not even if they bring Felton back, and they hope to reach the playoffs. But they are for sale, so it's also my best guess.
Second best guess would be to make an offer for Sessions to force the Bucks to put the bucks where their promises are.

Wrong question
With which team will KP work a deal that helps both teams?

I guess if they agree to a deal, it technically isn’t ’taking advantage" of them.

I like the way you think
KP is a grown man, and based on the age of the other GM’s, most of what he does is illegal in all but 11 states and Burma.

If they need to dump salary
and he helps them do that, it isn’t taking advantage of them.

Whichever team needs to cut salary
However, I doubt KP is going to get a steal of a deal. I think at this point teams want some of our young talent and we only want studs, which is probably shutting down a lot of trade talks. Teams know we are loaded, getting that final piece is difficult and expensive.
I think if Martell is healthy we have to move Travis, I think he definitely the most movable piece on the team. We shouldn’t have 3 players competing for small forward minutes. However, I don’t think Pritchard wants to move Blake. Maybe I am wrong, I am hope I am wrong, but if not I doubt we are really going to get a whole lot for Travis and pick/eurostash pupu platter and a salary dump.
Batum, Bayless, Rudy: these three are probably the most requested parts to any deal, they are young, high ceiling players, who are rightly highly valued by the management, as such we are very hesitant to move them. For example we could have had Gerald Wallace last February but it was halted because of the inclusion of Batum in the deal.
I think KP wants to use our cap space to get a “free” player in terms of assets given up.
If we trade for the present, we can contend now with sacrificing some of the future (Bayless, Batum, Rudy) but the player acquired has to outweigh what we give up in future production and the length of the championship window. Otherwise, we are going to look like the SA Spurs in 4 years with no supporting cast.
Finding personnel that fits this description is very rare. We are basically looking to get an allstar caliber player in their prime for players with only allstar potential. Giving up that essentially franchise player, the player that puts butts in seats, is going to be rare in this economy. That’s why even though a Travis/Blake/Rudy/Bayless for DH and cap filler looks fair, it’s not going to happen.
As other people have said: Our best bang for buck is going to be Gerald Wallace. His injury history is concerning however.

hate the post title
I’m tired of all the KP worship, Pritchslap, etc. It’s unrealistc and sets completely unmeetable expectations. Not to mentions make us (collectively) look like a bunch of idiots IMHO.
You wanna see a GM who’s taken advantage of people lately – take a look at Kupchak.
I’d be perfectly happy with a deadline deal that nets us a decent player for a fair cost of expendable assets.

You are correct.
While KP has done an outstanding job he has also gotten lucky. He shouldn’t have to make a huge “splash” each and every off-season to be considered successful. That’s unrealistic. Think about where we were three years ago. Think about teams like the Clippers, Memphis, and Minnesota. We are lucky to be Blazer fans. I can’t wait to see this team play next season, regardless of whether or not we make another move.

KP hasn't taken advantage of anyone that I can think of outside the draft
He’s effectively stolen unknown talent in Roy/LMA/Rudy/Batum. But in terms of acquiring proven talent via trade/free agency, KP has done almost NOTHING.
KP has built us a great team, but he’s done it all through the draft and draft day trades. He has done ZERO PRITCHSLAPPING with actual trades or free agency moves.
Starters
Blake- Not acquired through draft, and people want him replace
Batum/Roy/LMA/Oden- Draft or draft trades
Bench
Outlaw- Pre KP, people want him gone
Webster- Pre KP, probably stays
Bayless/Rudy- Draft/Draft
Przybilla- Pre KP, probably stays
So… where exactly has Pritchard owned any other GMs in the trading of free agency game? He hasn’t. Pritchard has only owned GMs when dealing unknown players, which is as much thanks to our scouts as it is to Pritchard.
If KP can get us Hinrich for Bayless and Outlaw, then maybe we can start talking about him owning other teams. As of now, all of his “pritchslapping” has been having a better idea of NBA talent than other GMs.
The Princess of Blazersedge
by Zaig on Jul 14, 2009 2:45 PM PDT reply actions 2 recs
and if one wanted to play devil's advocate
he hasn’t even “owned” anyone in swooping up draft talent.
- LMA and Roy were taken pretty much where expected in the draft
- Oden – no brainer #1 pick, many believe should have taken Durant
- Batum – went exactly where expected to in draft
- Rudy – late 1st pick n stash – he would have gone in late 1st to another team if we didn’t take him
- Koponen, Freeland – haven’t thus far panned out, and players taken after them have.
- Bayless – made a minor, simple move to get him after he slid several places
So, there isn’t a single draft pick that KP has made that has shown a keen eye for talent evaluation over and above league-wide expectations, nor any findings of “diamonds in the rough”.
One can argue the maneuvers to get Roy and Batum were clever, and they would get no argument from me.

Roy, Batum, and LMA were all pretty clever moves.
And Rudy was obviously an insane steal at 24 even with the 1 year of “stashing” we did.
KP has done extremely well in the draft, but outside of the draft he has done zero.

KP can no longer take advantage of this league...
might as well move on to Nascar. He and Blazer execs showed their hand too early. This summer would not have been so overblown if Oden had developed as expected (like Durant in his 1st 2yrs).

Pritchard has done nothing spectacular ever
The worship of him has to stop.
Everything decent in the organization is due to intelligent cap management by Tom Penn, and the coaching of McMillan. Every player that ends up stepping on the floor for the Blazers has ended up proving he belongs in the NBA. That includes the players that Pritchard drafted, as well as the ones from the previous regime. McMillan is the common factor and deserves much more credit for masking players deficiencies and highlighting their strengths.

You are insinuating that KP is a figurehead
and that is just not the case. Trading 2 above average players(Foye, Thomas) for 2 allstars (Aldridge, Roy) is more than just luck. He found Batum, whom some people even compare to Scotty Pippen! And grabbing Rudy as well.
Nobody gets that lucky.

Foye and Thomas would be allstars if Nate coached them
Is it any coincidence that every blazer has had a career year once McMillan got a hold of them?
Prz is suddenly no longer injury prone, and talked about glowingly even though he plays offense with 40hands.
Blake can suddenly shoot, and not get totally abused on defense even though some people consider him horrible.
Batum is untouchable in trades, despite averaging 2.7 dribbles a game.
Sergio will be playing in Turkey or Israel in two years, yet Nate made people think he could the future.
Oden overcame major injury last year to be totally serviceable, and will be an Allstar within 2 years if Nate stays.
Roy has accomplished almost unheard of achievements, despite being the 6th pick in what was considered the worst draft of the decade.
Lamarcus a 7 foot tall jump shooter has turned into a pretty tough player, and co leader of the team. Imagine how good we’d be if we had Bargnani though after a few years of learning from Nate.
The only failure Nate has on his resume so far is McBob.
And don’t try and bait me into the Jordan argument again. I already said my piece about that earlier today.

What do you guys think of Donatas Montiejunas as our 3rd string center/power forward until Przybilla/??? is done, to eventually be a super versatile backup to Oden & Aldridge. Rumor has it he could be getting mentored by fellow Lithuanian Arvydas Sabonis.

Not gonna happen
he’s drawing an insane amount of Dirk comparisons and is projected to go in the top 3 in next years draft ( http://www.slamonline.com/online/college-hs/college/2009/07/nba-draft-2010/ ). Only chance we’d have at him is if he got injured, like what happened to claver.

I'm glad you changed the title of this post....
Not that it’s likely that any of the NBA’s GMs read Bedge or even if they did, that what’s written here would change how they operate very much. However, if I was one of them and read the frequent posts about how brilliant KP is and how stupid the rest of the GMs are, it wouldn’t make me too anxious to prove these folks right.
Now that it appears that KP has come back to earth (did he really ever leave it), and the off season’s been less spectacular than some of us hoped, at least so far, I hope we Blazer fans will get real and ratchet down our arrogance. We haven’t won anything, yet. In fact, not much since ’77. I feel like our team is on the bubble. It could go one way or another. If Oden continues to develop and a lot of other piece fall into place, we go one way. If Oden or Roy gets injured, we go another.
I don’t know if any of you believe in karma, but I think it might help the Blazers’ karma if we remain realistic (not pessimistic) and very humble.
