Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Boozer told a Chicago area radio station that he thinks he will be traded. What does this mean for the Blazers? Any chance we will be involved in said trade?

When asked if he thought he’d be dealt: “Yeah I do. I had a talk with the Jazz. The Jazz told me they want to go in a different direction and I respect their decision. We mutually agreed to work out a trade that was beneficial for them and beneficial for my family and me. So with that being said, I’m gonna be traded relatively soon or in good time.”

Booze ain’t the sharpest knife in the drawer is he? He’s not helpin the Jazz leverage a suitable deal for him…

In related news Bulls buy out Tim Thomas. So he won’t go back to Utah in a deal, and I doubt they give up Tyrus.

Idea

To Portland – Jason Terry and Filler

To Dallas – Carlos Boozer

To Utah – Steve Blake

Poor Steve

What did he ever do to deserve to be shipped off to Utah. While I agree we should look at upgrading, we shouldnt punish him like that.

Detroit radio is reporting a Boozer/Hamilton deal is being discussed

How did you guys win that?

If the Jazz want to save on luxuy tax payments

That deal doesn’t make sense for them does it?

Nope

But it would make the team pretty dangerous

Yea, luxury tax payments are one thing...

Luxury tax payments for a backup are far worse. At least they would be putting their money to productive use.

That said, doesn’t Rip have a pretty long-term contract? The Jazz have always been a fiscally responsible team. I don’t see them locking themselves into cap-land for many years to come. If they can’t move Boozer and match on Millsap, they’ll only be hurt for one year. If they move Boozer for Rip, they’ll be paying for many years to come.

I expect Utah to match for Millsap, keep Boozer, and deal him at the deadline in a trade where OKC rents its cap space for a pretty penny, either directly to Utah, or as part of a multi-team deal.

by DC Blazer on Jul 14, 2009 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I really doubt there's meat to this rumor — paying Millsap $8M plus bringing in Rip for 3 years at $11 or whatever he makes would mean TWO CERTAIN years of luxury tax payments, with a third highly likely...

I think this is how it goes…

1. Boozer to Bulls for Hinrich.

2. Hinrich to Blazers for Outlaw and space.

Here is how the other main SLC reported this story, by the way…

Jazz: Boozer: "I’m Going to be Traded

by Ross Siler,
Salt Lake Tribune

* * *
Boozer had not spoken publicly since deciding June 30 to play the final year of his contract at $12.7 million rather than opting for free agency. He was asked in the interview about his feelings about the Bulls organization.

“Great organization, top notch from top to bottom,” Boozer said. "They do things very professionally there.

“At the same time they have a good group of talent there. Obviously with Derrick Rose at the helm and being Rookie of the Year last year and having some very good talent around him. Very good team. If I was able to come there, I’d bring a lot, especially in the low post and being a leader as well. We’ll see what happens.”

Boozer also suggested he would be open to signing a long-term extension with Chicago.

“I’d definitely be open to signing an extension and be locked into a team,” Boozer said. “Obviously, one that wanted me to be there in the future and one I thought would have a chance to succeed. That would be something me and my agent would explore right away.”

Hinrich thought he was gonna be a Blazer by now

Why should we believe what players think?

my theory, last week

was that much-denied Hinrich deal could hinge on Bayless’ performance in Vegas this week

If the Bulls like what they see from Jerryd but the Blazers are more “tepid” re: what Rex shows at the PG position, then the Hinrich deal could be back “on”

I read somewhere that Portland isn't going to help Utah trade Boozer

but that could change this weekend, after the Jazz match Millsap’s offer?

If we get the right player

we’ll help them trade Boozer in a heartbeat.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
