Nate extended
Sorry I don't have a better link, but Quick on 1080 the fan reported a nugget that is getting missed in all the Roy/Millsap talk:
Nate was just extended for another year.
Maybe someone can link to the 1080 podcast later, but I think it's important to put out there.

Quick also said
that Nate will continue to sign only 1 year deals for as long as he coaches here. He said he wants to earn his new deal every year. Nate thinks it will keep him focused on doing the best job possible. Nate also doesn’t want the Blazers or the fans to think at some point “why did we sign him for so long and give him so much money and how can we get out of this?”

wow thats incredible.
I’ve never heard a coach talk like that before and prob won’t hear it again
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

wow, weird
Part of me wants to say – man, I love that he feels this way, good for him.
Part of me thinks he is looking to have an easier way out in the future
but I guess that’s his call – if he wants to sacrifice guarnateed long term money for more leverage/flexibility, good for him. so long as he isn’t angling for another gig, I"m happy

I immediately thought the latter. Though it depends on if he always signs for an additional year, one year in advance.

he would have to sign 1 year in advance
teams just don’t go into a season with their coach on a contract year. it just isn’t done.
so i guess the signal that he’s leaving would be the year he doesn’t extend, in which case we would still have him for the final year, or could choose to let him go early and get a new coach.

There are famous managers in baseball who have only gone one year at a time
maybe not Joe Torre or Tony LaRusso, but someone in that class. It’s by any any means an unknown way to go, especially among those who know they will always be in demand.

Wow, this is really admirable.
I wish it was all like this. No contract year anomalies, people would play their heart out every year.
