B. Roy "very frustrated and disappointed" at contract situation
Just heard on 95.5 that B Roy was interviewed on a Seattle station today and spent a good 2 min talking about the Blazers, free agency, and his contract.
When asked on that show if he thinks it's likely he'll get the max offer or that things will get taken care of quickly and appropriately, he said "50/50" and really didn't sound confident AT ALL.
The guys from 95.5 then texted him and B Roy replied (this is all of 5 min ago now) that "I'll be making a statement next week, but I can say that I'm very frustrated and disappointed right now." I might have one or two small words wrong but that was pretty much word for word.
If I hear any more garbage about Golden Aura boy or how great KP is I think I'll puke.
This is outright embarassing and pathetic.
PAY THE MAN WHAT HE WANTS - END OF STORY.

I looked briefly and didn’t see anything… and since my blood is boiling over at the lack of wisdom being shown by the Blazers management right now, I had to post asap.
I agree. I'm pretty pissed.
GREAT way to crap on the linchpin of this organization’s progress. Good job, Vulcan (if in fact that is who we have to thank).
SIGN BRANDON ROY TO A 5 YEAR DEAL NOW!

Good one. Roy could get a 5 year max conract from about 20 teams. The Blazers arent cool enough to pull this kind of crap
Hi fans it Brandon Roy.
And ME.....LaMarcus Aldridge
Roy would give up $3.6M to sign elsewhere
But it is no doubt the same problem for any other team – 5 years with opt-out in 3 years. He will opt-out to get another raise. It sounds like the Blazers are wanting 4 years with no opt-out. Maybe they get it – likely not but they have to fight because LMA will want the same terms.
KP has said there is no risk of losing them and I believe KP.
I'm not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic, but I hope it's the latter.
If you’re actually being serious for once — which isn’t your strongest suit — then you’re out of your mind.

Good grief
This should be the easiest negotiation in Blazer history. You have a young frnachise player worthy of max dollars – if he wants the max deal length, I see no reason to mess around on this. Even if the cost is just some goodwill from B Roy, is that really the tenor management wants to set with a cornerstone of the franchise?

They're posturing so they don't have to max out LMA.

this really does
make no sense what so ever. Why would the Blazers have any objection to him signing on for 5 years instead of 4? It gives them no benefit at all.

Hi fans it Brandon Roy.
And ME.....LaMarcus Aldridge
Why do you think it is KP?
Don’t you think if KP had the power to do whatever deal he wanted to do, this thing would be done already? I have to believe this is coming from the top. It has to be Paul Allen, and I just don’t get it. He told KP to go for it, but when it comes to extending his franchise player now he wants to haggle? He is ready to give Hedo 50 million but won’t give Roy 80? This is so far beyond confusing that I am nearly speechless. Come on Paul Allen, get this done before you lose all of the good faith that you have built up with the fanbase these last couple years.

Might be
His agent is trying to do him and LMA as a package, could be it’s Roy who wants 4 years, could be he wants an ETO after one of the years, could be he wants a no-trade clause, the list goes on and on, and no one is to be trusted to tell the truth right now.

wheels keeps saying brandon AND Lamarcus
even though everyone is just talking about b roy. I think Broy is making sure LMA is taken care of too.
Man standing on toilet is high on pot.
I think we all understood
LA’s contract could be a bit of a sticking point. But if Roy’s is, that’s a signal the Blazers aren’t offering a proper deal probably to either of them. At least that’s the way it looks to me…
JAWESOME!!
Yeah but it wouldn't do much.
The kicker can’t make you go over the maximum salary, so if Roy is already maxed out, then he wouldn’t get anything.
Keep in mind that everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazers Edge.
There was a caller in that segment....
Who was saying that he thought it was the group at Vulcan. Wheels didn’t confirm, but said that he thought the caller’s perceptions were very astute.
So the Vulcans are trying to jerk Roy around over one year at the end of the contract, which makes no sense to me. I may be off-base on this, but the following scenario comes to my head when I think of Roy not being signed over that one extra year:
Roy becomes an RFA at the end of next season, and team X offers him a 5 year, max money contract (Is five years the longest you can offer?). The Blazers have the opportunity to match any offer, and yet they would be putting themselves in an even more precarious situation – assuming they deem committment to an extra year now as risky – simply because dragging it out means essentially an extra two years committed to Roy beyond what they are wanting to commit to him now, just to keep him then.
If they’re all skiddish about giving him five this year, what are they going to do when it comes time to matching any offers Roy is given next year?
Regardless of whether or not there are concerns regarding Roy’s knees or his foot or ankles, the smart thing to do is just give him the max contract now and eat a year later if things go drastically wrong, rather than have to deal with the possibility of Roy leaving and being forced to give max money and years next summer.
These Vulcans don’t think logically.
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
it would only be the one extra year
if we give him 4 now, it’s 4 plus the 1 he already has left, total of 5 from now. if another team gives him 5 next year, it’s a straight 5 from then, or 6 from now. only 1 extra year, so it would be the same as just giving him the full 5 extension now
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.
-Nate McMillan Postgame, 3/4/2009
Well one extra year...
It still seems to me that if they have a problem with one extra year now, that another year later would be just as troublesome to them and so the smarter thing would be to lock him up now.
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
What is KP doing?
You don’t mess with the face of your franchise. There is a time and place to play hardball, THIS IS NOT IT. Keep Broy happy, end of story. This is seriously ridiculous. KP is now officially trying to hard to be perfect. You don’t push Brandon Roy around, he is everything to the blazers. 50/50? That is ludacrous, he should be 100% he is going to be taken care of. If Roy asks for 5 years and a kiss on the ass from KP’s significant other, you do it. End of story.
The Bedger formally known as ????????
I can't imagine it is KP...
But since he’s the face of the management, he’s the one who will take the heat.

I can guarantee you Arn Tellem trying to get the Blazers to max out LMA
During the 2006 off-season, Tellem negotiated a 4-year, $60 million contract for Ben Wallace with the Chicago Bulls. In 2005, Tellem negotiated a 5-year, $67.4 million maximum-salary contract for Joe Johnson with the Atlanta Hawks in addition to maximum-salary contracts in 2004 for Tracy McGrady with the Houston Rockets (3-years, $60.4 million extension) and Pau Gasol with the Memphis Grizzlies (6-years, $86.4 million extension). In 2003, he negotiated a 7-year, $126 million maximum-salary contract for Jermaine O’Neal with the Indiana Pacers. In 2001, Tellem negotiated a maximum-salary contract for Antawn Jamison worth $79.2 million. In 2000, Tellem negotiated a 7-year, $93 million deal for Tracy McGrady with the Orlando Magic. 6
That’s his calling card.

I doubt it’s as simple as everyone thinks it is…
The agent they are dealing with is the agent for BOTH LMA and Roy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is leveraging his clients as a package, and I’m guessing using Roy as leverage to up the ante for LMA’s contract. i.e., if you don’t give LMA this max deal, Roy isn’t signing.
You may say KP should just give both the max but I doubt he has the go ahead for that. Their agent is about money, I bet they are pushing to get a max contract for LMA.
Isn't there some kind of agent ethics that says you have to represent the best interests of your clients individually?
Imagine if your criminal defense attorney held up making a plea deal so that he could leverage you to get a better deal for one of his other clients.
Keep in mind that everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazers Edge.
2 points
Firstly, agent ethical rules are much different than attorney ethical rules.
Secondly, the agent would certainly be within his ethical rights if Roy consented to a packaging of their interests, and Roy’s comments today could be an indication that he indeed consented.

Am I the only one...
Who listened to the interview.. And didn’t hear Brandon say the words “very frustrated”??? I just listened to it online and I swear he didn’t say that. He seemed like his normal self and pretty much said he understands it can take time and that it’s a business and he trusts his agent to get it done.
I seriously think we all need to relax a little. If I remember correctly, when Deron Williams renewed his contract with the Jazz, it took like a month. So I don’t think 3 days is something to freak out about
i think the word very might not have been in there, but
i know for a fact he said “frustrated and disappointed.”
If I'm wrong... PLEASE don't bite my head off! lol
I’m listening to it again right now just to double check

“I’ll be making a statement next week, but I can say that I’m very frustrated and disappointed right now.”
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh..... My bad... Misunderstood.
Thought he said that in his interview.. Whoops!
Either way everybody, still think 3 days isn’t too much to worry about it.. Come a couple weeks from now, if it’s not done… Then YES panic! But give them more than a couple days people! I agree that keeping him for as long as possible is the top priority, but if it doesn’t get done right away, don’t panic or bash KP.

If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar
The deal will be done.
KP said Bradon and LaMarcus will be with the team for a long time. As a business even though you will probably end up paying what the person wanted anyways but that doesn’t mean you just roll over and do what ever he says. Brandon Roy is learning that no matter how good he is a negotiation is still a negotiation and ofcourse from a business standpoint the Blazers want to get Brandon for the lowest amount they can. No reason to out bid themselves.
I disagree
I get what your saying in the sense that it’s a business, everthing is negotiable, etc., but if I’m running a business, the product stinks, a new CEO (Roy) comes in and helps get things going great agin, his contract comes up and there is an industry maximum in terms of tenure/dollars I can offer, if I’m the owner I say thanks for the good work and make the offer. LMA I can see the argument about max dollars – not with Roy.

It depends on how the business is structured and what kinds of succession plans are in place. Larry Miller (Jazz owner) died earlier this year, and I believe the team is currently run by his oldest son, Greg, who is CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. As for Paul Allen? Who knows.

Do you really think KP, PA and Vulcan
need to be reminded how valuble Roy is. I am pretty sure he was the only player who sold jerseys outside of Oregon. Trust me they know how much he is worth and they will pay him. These things can take time. I think Brandon is a littel frustrated that it is not happening sooner but this is really his first contract negotiation besides the inital rookie contract. I think he will be fine They will make a deal with him some where in the neighbor hood of 5 years $80 million and it will happen in the next two weeks.
What I love about Brandon...
… is what I think is fanning the flames here.
What I love about Brandon is that he is a genuine and honest person. He doesn’t give you the Hollywood smile that Kobe and A-Rod flash and say the typical “Whatever is best for the team…” BS they sling while they are trying their damnedest to line their pockets.
Brandon is a little frustrated, I’m sure, because he’s working on getting 60 million dollars!
Everyone gets tense with those kind of numbers, its human nature. I would be, you would be, everyone would be.
Only Brandon is going to be honest about his feelings, tell the truth, and continue to work his butt off.
Brandon will be in Portland a long, long time. And as long he remains, the honest, even-tempered and genuine person he is, he is more than welcome in my opinion.
Its better than having a LeBron-like situation, where he keeps a city, state, team and league dancing at the end of his string.
Wondering what moves Pritchard would make to land me a date in the off-season. Preferably one with tickets.

This is spend-your-free-agent-dollars time. Right after that will be give-Brandon-whatever-he-wants time. I’m pretty sure Brandon understands that.
If you’re really so panicked, do you want to send KP an e-mail that says, “Make sure you don’t bring in any players that would improve the franchise this year”? Because that’s what you’re saying. Roy is going to get taken care of very quickly AFTER that.

until i read Brandon’s quote.
This makes me wonder if there was a reason that JQ went off last week in his column. What does he know that he DIDNT say that fueled his rage? I thought he overreacted in his column, but maybe he didn’t. Maybe he knows things he didn’t share and an issue really does exist.
I brushed the lack of signing off as part of the negotiations. However, when those negotiations start to impact the relationship there’s a problem. It may be that Brandon is playing the media to apply pressure on the Blazers, however that just doesn’t seem very brandonish.
I’m concerned. A Brandonless team would mean I did not renew my tickets next year. I put down serious cash for them, and I see NO value in them for a team without Brandon. I also see issues with Blazer management that rivals the days of old and the good will that has been built up, becomes washed away. There’s a balance with being too loose with the Cash and too tight. It’s beginning to look like we’re going from one extreme to another.
I will continue to be patient, but this is starting to look ugly to me.
"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.
But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"
