NBA WEST 2009-2010

so far so bad for some teams UPDATE 8/10/09

Star-divide

I have a feeling every one knows whos the best out west lakers again!!

besides them how will the west fall in to place next season based off the offseasons moves or the lack there of.

#15 will go to the KINGS  by far the worst team in the west nodoubt going 15-67

#14 will go to the WOLVES a young team in the works but still years away 24-58

#13 will go to the SUNS 32-50 WREKINGBALL anyone this team is going down with out a fight. 31-51

#12 will go to OKC up and comers in the west but still i cant see them getting it together maybe next year. 40-42

#11 will go to golden state they are a mess just a mess i dont really know what they are doing but 10 years with one playoff birth holy cow 35-47

#10 will go to the CLIPPERS  hargdest team to read hands down could go 15-67 or  52-30 but ill go with the law of avgs and go 38-44

#9 will go to memphis maybe one of the most improved team this year but will just miss the playoffs 41-41

#8 will go to the JAZZ im not sure what will happen but as of right now the jazz are in a heap of truble 45-37

#7 will go to the HORNETS  this team make me think seattle will not be with out a team for long no money no team but they still have paul 48-34

#6 will go to houston another hard team to read could go both ways but they have a really good coach and play all out D 39-43

#5 will go to the MAVS i dont really love the things they have done so far but if it works thet will be a good deeper team 53-29

#4 will go to the  NUGGETS  a really good team lest year making it to the WCF but they have not done much so far, and with other team geting better they with drop of a bit 53-29

#3 will go to the BLAZERS even if there are no big time moves this team will get better but i think they can and will make more moves to better this team 59-23

#2 will go to the spurs awesome offseason moves and can knock of the hated lakers 60-22

#1 will go to the lakers 65-17

so the new order is

15 kings

14 minny

13 suns

12 gsw

11 lac

10 rox

9 okc

8 grizz

7 jazz

6 n.o

5 nugs

4 mavs

3 blazers

2 s/a

Blast!

The nuggets haven’t done much because their entire starting lineup puts them into the luxury tax basically.

The L*kers will not win 67 games

as for the rest

I think the Spurs are a bit too old to win 60 games. Jefferson helps them bunches, but they just aren’t a 60 win team.

I feel like the Nuggets could be very good again or implode on themselves. 4th is a safe spot for them.

It looks like Yao is going to miss a lot of games, maybe the whole season. Houston is not a playoff team with just Brooks and Scola. They have no center, they have no wing presence. They are a lottery team.

I think the Jazz will be much better than 8th so long as they aren’t derailed by injuries like last season.

My gut tells me that 5th is too high for a very old Mavericks team, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them there either.

I like the Hornets in 7th. Paul is fantastic, but that team has no depth.

The Suns are definitely going to drop like a rock.

My team on the rise is OKC, not Memphis though.

The other projections seem pretty good for this early in the off season.

L*kers won't win 67

I sincerely hope they won’t.
I can see OKC and Memphis going higher than last year.
Phoenix going down, I think no one has any doubt about it.
I think Mavs are again trying to do something big, with Kidd-Howard-Marion-Nowitzki-Gortat as a starting five they can be really good.
Also, I agree with Magnum, Rockets will probably end in the lottery.

As for the beloved Blazers, I really hope they can climb to 2. Even if they won’t make any big trades, I hope that Oden will become dominant enough to become our third option → BRoy will have more space and he surely knows what to do with it.

Watch out for Denver

They have the capability to do as well as any other team in the west. I could see them ending up in the Western Conference Finals again this year.
A healthy and well managed (not too much wear and tear during the season) Spurs or Mavs club should do well during the playoffs too.
The Lakers will probably end up with best record in the west, and will be a championship contender, but unless they can work off-season magic they have just one or two seasons left with that status.
I mostly agree with this post. I put the Blazers at 3rd, but SA and Denver much closer to them, with all 3 teams winning about 55 games this year. I will guess LA will win about 62. Dallas at 5 with 51 wins. Utah at 6 with 50. NO at 7 with 48. And either Houston or Phoenix will limp into the 8th spot with 45ish wins.
I’m going to save this in a text file to check my prediction next April!

Here's mine.

This is how I think the west will shake out.

1. Lakers- They got even better during the offseason. (assuming they can keep Odom)

2. San Antonio- The Richard Jefferson trade will help a lot, as will the signing of Antonio Mcdyess. Plus they have a few young players with some talent.

3. Portland- I think that even if we don’t make a big offseason move chances are good that we’ll end up in 3rd.

4. Dallas- They improved a lot with the Shawn Marion trade. Plus Dirk is still after that elusive championship.

5. Denver- I think the loss of Dahntay Jones will hurt more than they think.

6. Utah- A team that should have been better than an 8 seed this year, but was hit hard with injuries. If they can stay healthy expect them to be at least a 6 seed this year.

7. New Orleans- They still have Paul and David West.

8. LA Clippers- They will finally stay healthy and end a playoff drought.

9. Houston- The loss of Yao hurts, as does the loss of Artest. Houston still stands a chance though because of their defense. They badly need a center right now though. They don’t even have one on the roster.

10. Oklahoma City- A lot of young talent. Reminds me of Portland in 07-08.

11. Phoenix- They’ll just flat out outscore some of the weaker teams, but lets be honest. They are rebuilding.

12. Similar story for Golden State.

13. Memphis- Some talent there, but wherever Randolph has went the team sucked. (ball hog, plays no defense)

14. Sacramento- Some young talent but not talented enough.

15. Minnesota- Have you seen how many scrubs are on this roster.

Now way Houston makes it

Yao’s out for the season. McGrady will be worthless. They lost Artest. Now all they have is Scola, Brooks, and Ariza, three solid starters but nothing else. We might see a surprise team like the Thunder, Grizzlies, or Clippers.

some outsider picks

Great choices overall. Obviously most people nailed you on Houston.

Elite Tier -
1. Los Angeles (L) – Improved with Artest, as long as they keep Odom
2. San Antonio – Improved offensively with McDyess and Jefferson, but equal downturn in defense. All really depends on the health of the Big 3.

Contenders Tier -
3. Portland – Lots of room to still grow… but at the same time, room to regress. If extensions are settled for Roy & LA, this team could turn in on itself.
4. Denver – Hasn’t changed much, lost D.Jones, kept the Birdman. Can they continue their aborted maturation process under Billups?
5. Dallas – Some good moves this offseason, has a great 1-8 lineup now.

Darkhorses Tier -
6. Utah – Depends on how the Boozer/Milsap situation shakes out, but however it ends, Sloan is no slouch, and he’ll have this team prepared.
7. New Orleans – If they remain injury free, and decide to keep the roster intact, and recapture the 07-08 magic, they could move up a tier. That’s alot of "if"s.

Hopefuls Tier -
8. Los Angeles © – Becoming the popular pick to make a surprise impact, ie the 08-09 Blazers. They have a solid roster from top to bottom, but as always, it IS the Clippers in the end.
9. Memphis – This team is coming together really nicely… unless they decide to bring in Iverson.
10. Phoenix – While they should be better, as long as Amare remains a Sun, this team will only get worse and worse. It’s too bad, really. Steve Kerr was a decent player. He’s not even half that as a GM.
11. Houston – Does a Yao make a sound if it falls and there’s no one to hear it? Good luck Ariza. You’re going to need it, trying to be a 20 ppg player. (rotflmao)

Questionables Tier -
12. Golden State – A full season of Ellis and Curry? Sounds fun to watch… but it’s not going to win many games.
13. Oklahoma City – Time to see if this roster can piece it all together and become something nice in a few years. I hope not, if there’s any karmic justice in the world.
14. Minnesota – Is it possible to replace the league’s 2nd worst GM with one even less capable? Apparently so, because Minnesota just did it.
15. Sacramento – Ick.

Why don't the Spurs just die.

Every post season they limp into the playoffs and seem like the equivalent of an annoying movie villian that no matter how many times you poison it, shoot it, drown it, or strangle it, they just never seem to go away.

And unless Duncan blows his knee and Ginobili leaves them in free agency, that will be the case for the next 2-3 years

They now added Jefferson who while worse than in his prime is in much better condition than who they gave up to get him (Bowen was pretty done too), they added a ton of good big men to reduce Duncan’s playing time (and you know Pop is ready to sit him no matter if it costs them a game or two), and next year they likely will add another top big man in Tiago Splitter who finally is ready to come over (his team sponsor is broke, and they can give him up to the full MLE). Plus Buford still will have an ace or two up his sleeve. He is still on top of the GM game.

If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar
